Odom and Nash

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Fri Feb 10, 2012 10:06 pm

Not sure if anyone heard how the Suns and Nash were disappointed when Odom was traded to Dallas because they didn't know he was even available after the botched Paul trade.

Now everyone expects that Dallas is trying to clear out massive cap space, they have a team option on Odom, which I imagine they won't pick up.

Now I don't REALLY expect Nash to be with the Suns after this season, but as time goes on, I'm not sure I can see him signing somewhere else either. I think he only signs with the Knicks if D'Antoni is still there, and if Lin is for real, they might not go for him.

I think if Dallas is unable to get D-Will or Howard, that they have the best chance at landing Nash, that is, if Cuban wants him. Portland could be another possibility, unless they decide to stick with Felton.

But if Odom is suddenly a free agent, and the Suns give Nash the best offer, tell them they will sign Lamar, and he feels more comfortable just staying in the valley with his current teammates, I wouldn't be surprised to see Odom and Nash both in Phoenix next year. Word is Nash feels Odom would be the perfect pick and roll player.

Of course Odom is having a terrible season but he did have a rough summer and was out of it mentally and physically, so who knows?

Now of course I know having Odom and Nash here next year would upset many of the fans on this board, because it would further delay full tank mode, I could see Sarver and the FO feeling like they could possibly make some sort of run with Odom, Nash, maybe another free agent, and the top 10 pick that comes in.

I'm not sure how good they would be, but Odom (if he can get back to form) is an all around better player than Amare was, and if we could pick up say a Jeremy Lamb or Brad Beal in the draft who could provide instant impact, it might at least be somewhat interesting.

Odom has never really played with a true point guard either...he's been stuck with Kobe and Wade most of his career, which probably reduced the number of touches he could get with Nash.

I'm not sure how excited I would be with this scenario, but I think it is certainly plausible and it wouldn't surprise me.

I've always been a fan of Odom. He's a little goofy, yes, but a ridiculous set of skills. Imagine Bpris but with desire.

I think he might have a rebirth playing with nash

I think he is a little older but he still has some stuff left to contribute. Much better than any other option we can play at PF. If it's possible, and they manage to pick up another solid FA over the summer (according to the plans by the FO), then I'd be all for it.

I wouldn't be opposed to this if Nash sticks around for another season or two.

That team could do some REAL damage.

Odom is hit AND miss. There are days you'll love him. Days you'll hate him. That's the story of his career. Kind of a Boris Diaw "supersized" version in terms of talent ---> which isn't really saying much since the Odom/Diaw type of guys strive mostly on feel and seldom remain consistent.

Believe it or not, him not playing well is lowering his market value. So if Suns do keep Nash, signing Odom for a cheaper price would be welcoming. And starting alongside Nash would make him instantly better (on paper, at least).

Assuming Suns get another mid-range first round pick and Grant Hill takes a back seat and accepts a Suns assistant coaching gig or something - I will love to have Nash and Odom signed in Phoenix.

Throw in a James Anderson as free agent SG and Lou Amundson as free agent C/F in case Frye decides to not show up early in the season and you're set. Would be a very fun club w/ good character, energy, youth, and experience. A gritty playoff team:

Nash/Price/Rookie
Anderson/Redd
Dudley/Childress/Rookie
Odom/Morris
Gortat/Frye/Amundson

Yeah another ball handler next to Nash is exactly what we need.

Something centered around Frye for Odom? Frye is a better bench guy than Odom which is what Dallas needs from that spot.

Redd / Brown ??????? :wavefinger: :banghead:

'TheMAn' has a more likely plan. Odom for a couple yrs would solidify the SF/PF position.

I too was disappointed when the Mavs got Odom for practically nothing. I think he would fit well along side Gortat. I could see him flourishing here for a couple years in a Boris Diaw type role.

I tried a trade scenario in the RealGM trade checker and it states: Odom was recently traded from Phoenix and cannot be re-acquired by the Suns this season. As a result this trade cannot continue.

I must have missed the Odom era in PHX, haha

The Lakers never shopped Odom. He demanded a trade to the Mavericks.

I thought he demanded the trade because the Lakers had been looking to trade him to land CP3
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Yes, you're right. He demanded the trade after the CP3 disaster but Dallas was the only place he wanted to go.

Regardless.... He will be looking for a job and a new apartment next yr.

I dont think he would be in the plans w/o Nash. No Nash = youth movement.

I just don't know about Odom. I think he hates the Suns just like Kobe does. And he almost walked away from the game this summer, and his numbers this year reflect that loss of desire. Maybe we could get him a medical marijuana card as a signing bonus.
