Nash to Orlando rumors thread

Post#1 » by _Nashoholic_ » Sat Mar 3, 2012 8:32 pm

Since All-Star Weekend, rumors have been flying around the league saying the Magic FO is "aggressively" pursuing Steve Nash, in attempt to make Dwight Howard stay. Many sources are reporting that Dwight is pushing the Front Office to get Nash, and that he would sign an extension if it happens.

Thoughts? Deadline is March 15th. What should we ask for?

I would personally love to get Redick and Jameer, because they are both expiring for 2013. The only intriguing FA left for 2012 is Eric Gordon, who we can still get even if we trade Nash's contract.
2013 Free Agents I would like in Phoenix:
Stephon Curry-With our training staff and PG friendly offense, how could this not be a perfect fit?
Monta Ellis-Early termination option. Price might be too high
Andre Iguodala-Early termination option, great fit if price doesn't get too high.
Josh Smith-Unrestricted, great hustle player, won't break the bank.
Paul Millsap-Exactly the type of player the Suns need.
David West-Good player for a short term deal

So while we are at it, this could be our lineup for the 2013-14 season
PG-Curry
SG-Gordon
SF-Smith
PF-Morris
C-Gortat

So if the Magic offer 2 first round picks, Jammer and Redick for Nash and Warrick would you take that deal? We could then amnesty Childress next year to clear up more space.

I would love Nash in Orlando if we get good pieces to set up for the future.

If Howard wants to play with Nash they can play together next year in Phoenix.
We don't trade Nash.He is an All Star and we can sign him two more years this summer. He is a living legend playing like a guy 25 years old.

In my opinion, there would have to be a 3rd team involved. No matter what, we would end up being stuck with Nelson. The other trade chip they have is Anderson (who i used to be high on), but he is rather redundant with Fry here. Anderson = Frye. Only reason Andersons numbers are as high as they are is because of the double team that Dwight commands. It was the same way here with Amare.

So either Frye or Anderson would be force to go to a 3rd team, and at this point, i think Anderson holds the higher value.

Now its time to work the ESPN Trade Machine and see what i can whip up for a ORL/PHX/??? 3-way.

Not even close. Nash doesnt score anymore. He needs to know when to stop giving up the ball to our bad shooters, and score himself. He very very rarely takes it to the hoop, or is in the paint at all. Opposing teams realize that if they see him driving to the hoop, 99.7% of the time he is going to kick it back out to a 3 point shooter. But he rarely even goes near the hoop anymore.

Nash's strength used to be that he was great at both scoring and assisting. Now teams dont worry about him shooting, as he doesnt do it enough to be a threat. Look at the past 5 games:

Lakers: 2-8FG, 8 points
Wizards: 3-6FG, 12 points
Warriors: 2-4FG, 7 points
Wolves: 6-13FG, 13 points
Clippers: 1-4FG, 6 points

This. Nash used to be capable of going 30 and 15, now there is no way he can score that much. When he isn't getting much help, he keeps passing. The old Nash didn't do that. He no longer strengthens his way through defenders, and he seems to have no moves this year. None. Nothing like MVP Nash.

He will probably end up averaging over 12 assists per game this year and his points will probably drop around there. He is just a really, really good point guard now, instead of the MVP he was.

Even if they blow us away with an offer Babby the Buffoon won't trade him. We just have to learn to live with it.

Its not about Howard wanting to play ith Nash, its about Howard wanting join the FA class of 2013 with CP3, Harden etc.

He wants to opt in to his contract for the next year but doesn't want to waste the next 2 seasons of his career so he wants the Magic to trade for a good player who is ok with just playing for two more years and Nash fits that bill perfectly than anyone else since he will likely retire in two years anyway or he can go to the Knicks.

If we are trading Nash for expirings, a bad contract better go with him, or we might as well just let him walk in the offseason (unless the objective is to simply have a worse record).

Don't see why everyone considers J.J. Redick an important piece to acquire either.

Ugh... whatever.

Orlando has little to no young talent worth cultivating.... Orton ?
Only bad contracts to absorb....
Anderson and Reddick are redundant here.
Their draft pick is a late one....

Why bother ?

Cheap shot.... just what would be a 'Blow Away' offer ? :clown:

Yeah, that's pretty much what I feel. There's just nothing to be had at all from Orlando's roster in a trade. When you trade a star you get back young talent. Yes, Stevie is 38 but you still have to get an appropriate amount of talent back. At that age, maybe only one or two 'interesting' pieces will come to PHX, but it's better than Nelson (30 years old) or Redick(2 years on contract).

Look at a team like Toronto, who has some pieces like Bayless or DeRozan (obviously not both), as a trade destination. Heck even the Rockets, with some guys lost in the rotation like T. Williams, Flynn or J. Hill.

Nash is just a really tough trade scenario. I still believe we're better off keeping him and seeing what free agents we can grab in the summer (regardless of Nash rejoining the team or not). But if he has to be traded, at least something better be coming back.

Agreed. And the one problem with Orlando, is all the players that one could trade for: Nelson, Anderson, Reddick, are signed through 2013. So, if that is the case, you damn well better have them take Childress AND Frye or Warrick as I think he is signed through 2014 ( has an option).

So, Nash to Orlando really only makes sense if Sarver is willing to suck a** through 2013 and then have boatloads of cap space. Nash to Portland for Batum makes sense basketball wise. Nash to Orlando makes sense for the right long term cap deal.

But remember, Sarver is the guy who had a core of Nash, Marion, Thomas, Amare and Bell, Diaw and LB on the last year of rookie deals, two first round draft choices and still managed to screw all that up for some short term cash. So, Nash to Orlando, probably not going to happen because Sarver will never bite the bullet on the 2012/2013 to have long term cap space like other teams would do

At this point, let Nash walk, let Hill walk, let Telfair walk, let Brown walk, get VC's contract off the books and have some major cap space if the Orlando deal is the best you can do.

A blow away offer from Magic would be..
- 2012 first pick
- 2014 Unprotected Pick
- 2016 Unprotected Pick

By then Howard would declining, Nash would be declined too or retired (assuming Suns proceed with the trade). Magic would be giving up a potential top 15 pick in 2014 and a potential top 10 pick in 2016.

If the Suns traded future 2 first round picks to cash in the moment and make a run, I can see Otis Smith sacrificing a bit of the future to make a championship run in the next 2 seasons.... and yes I know the Suns/Sonics trade with KT and 2 first round picks was STUPID..... but hindsight is a *****

Give it up ... please

Foolish ramblings are piled high here. Some of you are so hellbent on dealing Nash you have ventured in and firmly planted roots in fantasyland.

Any word on what the Magic are offering us? I don't think they will hold anything back.

Also, we could get rid of both of our awful contracts if we trade Nash, Warrick, and Childress for Nelson, Redick, and Anderson plus picks.

Other than that, we would have to go into a 3 team trade.

Does anybody know what players other than Nash they would want?
