Nash wants to sign for three more years this summer.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/77718 ... eal-summerIs that possible? I mean, I thought that the maximun for his age it was two years.

If we can actually build around him, ink the deal. He'll retire if he can't play it out.
If we can't build around him then we need to get realistic and do the right thing for us and him.
I'm so on the fence it's not even funny. Also I'm not sure of the rules to your question of the max length of the deal.

No way - have fun playing with grey hair at some other basketball club, Steve.
I can't stand having to watch Nash and Hill basically destroying our future by still delivering at their ages. Sure they are allstars and good for highlights and stuff.
BUT IT HURTS US in the long run - and don't give me that "mentoring the rookies" / "leadership from our two veterans" BULL-SH** - we all know how that has worked out over the last few years.
The only thing that happened over the last few years was a logjam at PG and SF in form of our two veterans with NO room for recruiting any replacements for the future.
Overplayed, banged up or just plain out of gas - Alvin Gentry did not care in the past and will not care in the future - as long as we have our two stars, he is gonna milk them til they drop dead.
He will give rookies or new brought in guys some trash minutes just like he gave to Earl Clark, Goran Dragic or even worse - Josh Childress.
AND THAT is not good for our future. I don't care about some wins or Sarver's ticket money - I also don't care about a slim chance at the 8th seed this year - we stand no chance against OKC, the Spurs or even Miami and Chicago so don't start that "make some noise in the playoffs" rubbish.
We should have traded Nash before the deadline and just the fact that he now seems to wanna get a bigger paycheck AND longer contract - I think we HAVE TO plan our future without him NOW.
Thanks for everything Steve, but it's time to turn the page, really.

hah! 3 years for a guy who's already 38? IDGAF how good he's playing, he could crash and burn at any moment. He's already not shooting as much anymore, who knows how much his game will regress in the coming years. This is waaaay too much of a gamble, just let him walk.

I hope steve leaves to a different team that actually wants him. You guys don't deserve him. Seriously, you keep forgetting that it was with a free agent signing in 2004 that Phx became relevant and exciting. NOT FROM A @#$@$#@ DRAFT PICK. What would the Suns do with draft picks anyways? All they do is sell them for money... Seriously, Nash gone and 50 years of Phx tanking is what you haters deserve.
Also if you bothered to read that wiretap article, you'd notice Nash explaining why his shot is down. Because this stupid team doesn't have anyone that can command a double team other than Nash. While being constantly, trapped and aggressively screened he still won't put up (Please Use More Appropriate Word) shot selection. Despite that he still produces by making the right plays (assists), but instead of blaming the lack of talent you blame him for not chucking stupid shots? Unreal...

I couldnt have said it better myself.
Dragic was brought in to learn from Nash and to be his successor, now he is, but in a Rockets jersey. Grant Hill, our "Defensive Leader" provides defense, but little else. There are many many players out there who have the D that Hill has, but also 3 times the O as well.
As for Nash saying this is the best he has felt in a decade, yeah..... sounds like every other soon to be FA athlete looking to increase his value for his next contract. Nash tries to say his back isnt the reason he shoots less than 8 shots per night, its the defense, but i believe its a little of both. Defenses shutting Nash down is bad, and him scoring 4-6 points a night is even worse. No way do i want Nash for another 2 years, let alone 3 FREAKING YEARS!!! I'll pass on having a 41 year old PG that has already shown signs of regression. Give me some young blood that can pass, score and defend. The NBA is a young mans game, and re-signing Nash to a 3 year deal will be the death of the Suns and their future.
I pray that a team like Portland will out bid us for his services.

Your opinion - I would share it maybe - if Steve wasn't 38 years old.
Please be real and think about it - 38 years of age - if he was just the average athlete with an average work ethic he wouldn't even be in the league anymore.
He just happened to extend his prime a few years due to insance work ethic and awesome body control but he is and will be declining EVERY year.
That's how age works, not his fault.

Ink him.
Hes still a Top 5 PG in the league, why wouldn't you want him to come back?
Sure, you could go the "youth movement" and go with a player that's younger, but the chances of him ever being as good as Steve Nash is extremely small.
Sign the man. I would love to see him retire as a Phoenix Sun

Why don't you guys want Nash anymore? The Suns already traded Dragic away...
how much does Nash want anyways?

So is there no way we can get some value for Nash? I also agree that the Nash era should end so we can hurry up and start the dreadful rebuilding process...Suns are not going anywhere with him at this point.

I want more Nash.
I think that $21-23 M over the next three years could be enough for him, he always accepts right offers.
And we will have money to spend in FA too.

The thing is - Nash will NEVER accept coming off the bench - which would lead us to starting a 40 year old PG against elite players HALF his age.
It's not fair for Nash and it's not fair for us, who care about the Suns long after Nash will be gone.
Current system: Nash, Nash, Nash......NOTHING....maybe some Telfair or every 2 weeks some Price....what the heck - let's go back to Nash again.
We are depending on one of the oldest players in the league and we have NOT AN EFFING CLUE what to do when he is not out there. So we better start thinking about that NOW. Best thing we had in recent years was Dragic, but he is gone so we have to find a solution ASAP.
Or we are gonna end up HAVING NOTHING, no system, no identitiy, no future, no PG to replace Nash...and even worse - thanks to our strange win/loss season, a mediocre pick.
Too bad to get a good playoff spot or even advance and too good to lose enough games to get some higher odds in the draft.
Imagine our front office would have done some things right:
- Dragic would be ready to make it HIS team,
- we would have Morris and a pretty good pick this year to look forward to
- Fans would be perfectly OK with Nash leaving in order to contend for a couple of years
- Nash really could go to a contender, which he absolutely deserves
But we are stuck in this phony "I won't ask for a trade but I still won't stay here IF" BS and our FO is afraid to pi** off our fanbase so they wanna be "classy" and keep Nash until he needs dipers or something.

Sorry, but my rankings are alot different. I want a PG that can play every part of the game, not just one who is pass first, pass second, pass third, shoot fourth (maybe). He has turned into a one dimensional player, and teams realize it.
Granted he had a good night tonight, but it was against the Kings, and a rookie PG that stands 5'3 was guarding him.

2-year adjusted +/- has him as the 2nd best player in the league. #1 point guard.
Dump Hill. RESIGN NASH. 3 years? Absolutely.

He was never into shooting very often, he chooses to defer. I agree with Miklo on this one. If we can upgrade the roster and make it capable of contending for a ship, ink the deal. No more of this rebuilding with Steve BS though, it's not fun for us and it's sure as hell not fun for him.

If he wants 3 years... then... 3 years 15 Million....
And Suns can still go sign a new PG and make Nash 6th man...
If he is happy with this... then ink him..
if he wants 3 more years of 0.500 record and bringing in players to play around him.... then.... Im afraid I cannot support.
