Official Trade Thread: Part 3

Post#1 » by Kerrsed » Sat Apr 28, 2012 11:06 pm

Time for a new Trade Thread, as the last one has reached 100+ pages and is having problems loading correctly.

Jason Quick: Buchanan said Blazers top two priorities this summer are finding a starting point guard and finding a starting center.

I think we could help them. Hickson/#11/#40 for Gortat?

They get a good veteran C that they are looking for, they keep their #4 pick (NJ's), and in the offseason, sign Nash and re-sign Batum.

Nash/Matthews/Batum/LA/Gortat

That team says contender to me. :D

We could probably get more, but it's a good starting point... (npi)

just to play devil's advocate, what has the 'good center' brought us? A defensive, rebounding centre, nobody flashy, would serve us a swell. Frontcourt defense is a huge need for us - al al Soles many breakdowns.

Sweet Lou and decent defensive PF who can work the PnR with Nash are a better fit.

We're yet to see if he is a good center. If Nash leaves, i think we'll all face the ugly truth about Gortat.
I mean, he hardly scores without the help of others. He never gets himself to the basket. Taking those awful fadeway jumpers is the only thing he does on the offensive end apart from pick & roll. In defense, he is usually killed by every center who is considered decent to good offensively around the league. Rebounding? The fact that we were among five worst teams in rebounding says it all (and it wasn't only Frye's fault).

Pros: Very good at taking a charge, very good pick & roll player, good contract, good value around the league

Cons: Awful hands, lack of scoring options beside pick & roll, susceptible to being blocked due to lack of agression (chooses layup over dunk), nowhere to be seen when it really matters (4th quarters), gives opponents second chances by getting outrebounded (..., Camby, ...)

Gortat is a pretty good piece for a contending team and not a go-to-scorer. Who guys complain about his offense but that's only because we have no better option at this point. If we had a real scorer on this team (e.g. Stoudemire) nobody would complain about Gortat.

Name three centers with Gortat's defense and rebounding as well as good offense post moves. Can't think of anyone in the league right now. Maybe Bynum, but he has no post moves and only scores because he's stronger than his opponent. Same with Howard.

Be happy with what Gortat brings at this point for only 6 million per year.

Because its an actual fees-able trade. Thats asking too much. Im fine with a player at 4 picks later. Blazers add a good C and get to keep their top 10 pick makes them do the trade even more.

Gortat is not even a top 10 center

he is a top center per salary but not worth being a #1 option

i would take

Hibbert
Bogut
Nene
Chandler
Howard
Jordan
Pekovic
Monroe
Cousins
Bynum
Horford
Marc Gasol

over Gortat any day.

Nash can make any of those guys listed better than he made Gortat

I disagree on Jordan and Pekovic, but that's just my opinion. You have yours it seems.
I would probably rather have most of those guys over Gortat though.

My opinion as far as the GOATat goes is that his value is very high right now. If we lose Nash, who knows what he will do. Yes, he is a very good center. Yes, he is on a very good contract. But he can bring us a lot of value which would help us kick start our rebuild. I still feel like Lopez could get back to his old form IF he had a big next to him who commanded a double team and relieved pressure off him.

100 % agreed! If Nash leaves ..trade Gortat's ass. He wont produce the same offensive numbers as he did with Nash this season. Might as well get what we can for him while he is a hot commodity.

Hibbert. Bogut. Nene. Chandler.

Hibbert is soft on offense. He couldn't even post up against Glen Davis or Ryan Anderson. Gortat has a better shooting % and more rebounds. Hibbert is shooting below 50% and that's awful for a center. Nene is a mediocre rebounder and defender. Chandler can't do anything offensivley other than dunks.

Bogut and Pekovic are good centers with good defense and real post moves. But you have to recognize that most of the other centers earn twice as much as Gortat.

Gortat is amazing value and yes, he should be making more. But I do not put him over Hibbert or Bogut (probably over Nene though) because those guys can change games defensively, as well as put up similar stats. Hibbert and Bogut are 15/10/2 blk ANCHORS.

I don't always advocate for a trade but we should trade anybody if a good deal comes. I think getting a young guy in Hickson and the Blazer's later pick is grounds for improvement.
