Are the Suns fading out Purple???

Today the Phoenix Suns officially unveiled their new home court for the upcoming 2012/2013 season. The video from Suns.com can be viewed here (http://www.nba.com/suns/video/suns-new-court). Other than the new logo and wordmark on the court, you'll notice a LOT of orange. Considering orange has been a team color (and marketing slogan) since the beginning, that's hardly news. What is interesting is all the black used on the court. But why black and not purple? The Suns colors are purple and orange. The only drops of purple that I can see on the new court are on the small, redesigned Phoenix bird logo. The lack of purple doesn't seem to be an oversight, but rather a purposely thought out decision.

So I ask.... are the Phoenix Suns slowly dropping purple from the organization? If so, what are your thoughts on this bold move?

Personally, while I like the look of the black and orange together, I am 100% against the Suns dropping purple. Purple and orange are unique to the Phoenix Suns and it would be a HUGE mistake to totally do away with the purple. The Suns have been around since 1968 and purple has always been a part of the color scheme. To me, it would be like the Celtics dropping green, the Dodgers dropping blue or the Steelers dropping yellow. Hell, the U.S. Airways Center (formerly America West Arena) is known as The Purple Palace!

Looks like it. The dbacks did the same thing.

But the Diamondbacks changed their entire color scheme (from purple and teal to red and black). I sure hope the Suns aren't planning on being like every other Arizona sports team and eventually fading out orange as well in favor of red. :noway:

Don't tell me when red is not a proper color for anything, because it's appropriate for everything!!!

Idk, Phoenix Suns might look kinda nice.

Joking 100% of course. I'd hate to see them change a color scheme but after having so much purple for so long maybe orange is just the thing we need right now.

What has purple gotten us? 0 championships.

I kinda like the idea of red, that way all the Arizona teams would have very similar colors.

As i posted in the offseason thread:

I think thats what is going to happen. Our new team colors will be Orange and Black, no more Purple. To tell you the truth, i was never a big fan of the purple. The facts are that Our court has no purple, and if you look at the redesigned alternative logo, neither does it. The purple has been replaced with a dark blue shade. You also have to remember that is our alternative logo, so it makes me wonder if our primary logo (the one we really havent used for years) will be re-designed as well and will be strictly Orange/Black/White.

I for one love the new court and would love to get away from the purple. I might have to revisit the photoshop and see what i can do with a strictly orange and black uniform. :D

I won't be happy if they take out Purple. I have a tattoo on my forearm of a player dunking on another player and one has purple shorts and orange top and the other is reversed. The only reason I got it like that was because of the Suns and I didn't want it to be obvious like a logo or something along those lines.

Even your bowel movements?

it would be a mistake for the Suns organization to ditch their purple colors. As it was a mistake for the Diamondbacks to lose the turquoise/purple/grey color scheme- whether or not what they wear now is more aesthetically pleasing they look like 50% of other MLB teams. Granted the Suns may be only losing purple, but losing either orange or purple would be damaging to their distinct look that this teams had since its inception.

At least we would still remain original with our colors. Black and Orange. No other teams with that combo. At least we wouldnt be like the Hawks, changing all their colors to red/white/blue, or the Wizards going to red/white/blue.

I dont mind when a team trys to re-invent themselves, and changes up their colors, but it annoys the hell out of me when they do it, just to copy another teams colors, like the previous teams mentioned, and others like the Nets sporting the Spurs Black/White/Silver

We'd be unique in basketball, but not in sports (the San Francisco Giants wear black and orange). I may be wrong, but I can't think of any other sports team (minus the Mercury) that wear purple and orange. I don't follow college sports, but I don't believe any college teams use that color scheme either.

Mostly correct. Clemson rocks purple and orange, but that's about it.

In my ideal world, we go with a very slightly updated take on 68-92's. Those jerseys are my favorite of any team, in any sport, ever.

If we are phasing out purple, I wouldn't mind swiping a bit from the SF Giants, including the slightly "off-white" homes. That would be really unique in the NBA, looks great, and almost keeps that "old west" feel the 68-92 jerseys had.

But seriously, just bring back the 68-92. So. Bad. Ass. And whatever we do, get rid of the damn bird. That logo is trash, and has been since day one.
