Harden to Rockets?

Post#1 » by InTheDeepFreeze » Sun Oct 28, 2012 3:34 am

Not happy, I was really hoping for him to be a Sun.

First post, so sorry if I screwed up on protocol.

Welcome !

Also love your name

I dont like this trade for Houston imo.

Although they got rid of Kevin Martin they lost Jermey Lamb who I think will be a great NBA player who hasnt had the slightest chance to prove him self yet.

Houston gets Harden who has been a great sixth man because he has been the first option off the bench.

If you plan to start Harden you wont get the same production out of him unless you make him the first option.

And even if he is made the first option it seems he needs the ball to produce. What will Lin do?

Also there are a few things to consider about Harden.

1. His finals/playoff performance
2. Flop rule
3. Need to control the ball

Your team has two pass first PGS in Lin and Machado. Which doesnt suit Harden well since he needs the ball. Harden is a good passer but if he controls the ball what will Machado and Lin do since they arent the best at scoring?

Anyways there all sorts of factors for why im not high on Harden. I may not explain myself well....But I dont think he will be the same Harden as you saw in OKC. And I think losing Jermey Lamb is a big loss.

Well anyways thats my short ramble.

Are you kidding Dragic13? This is a fantastic deal for Rockets. Jeremy Lamb, regardless of what you think of his potential, is unproven. Harden is a sure thing and arguably a top 3 SG in the league right now. There will always be questions when a new player is traded but I have no doubt he'll make it work. He has a highly adaptable game and has shown he can take over games even with guys like Westbrook and Durant dominating the ball.

They got a great player in Harden for a not as good SG (Kevin Martin), rookie (i.e. UNPROVEN) and draft picks (again, unproven).

Rockets won easily.

But what does it mean for us since Harden is basically off the table now?

I wish Suns got in on that. Beasley/Dudley and 2 picks for Harden. Unreal

I wouldnt give up either in a 1 on 1 trade.

Rockets gave up to much.

The only thing to do now is wait and see.

Atleast this makes makes a fun story come regular season to follow.

He's got his resume on paper in front off you but you ignore it entirely but have no issues saying Jeremy Lamb will be a great player with very little to show other than his time at college and a handful of preseason games.

Yeah alright buddy

People overrate one year in the NBA these days. Look at Lin. Houston now has two of the most over rated players in the NBA who both peaked in the same season.

You think Lin and Harden will be the same player they were last season? No.

Houston's aggression pays off.

Our "conservative" FO is left behind once again.

So what do our offseason priorities look like now, and in what order?

1) Evans
2) J Smoove
3) Ellis
4) DeRozan

Harden said he would love to play in the valley of the sun. We should of done everything to get him here but I doubt we tried. A nice package of Beasley/Dudley/Gentry/Picks would of sealed the deal.

Evans and Ellis will not be able to play with Dragic in the backcourt, so scratch them.

Smith would be nice.

DeRozan would be meh.

Paul Millsap maybe? I doubt Avery Bradley is available because the Celtics will rebuild with him eventually. OJ Mayo has a player option but he already turned us down this past offseason.

I can't think of many other options, besides the draft (yuck). Here's to Wes Johnson I guess.

I don't think we can trade Beasley for a year, but I might be mistaken.

Ultimately, it appears that Houston put forth an offer that we wouldn't be able to top.

Martin + 2 lotto picks + Lamb(lotto pick himself) + very high 2nd round pick

Dudley+Marshall+picks wasn't going to top that.

JR Smith would be an interesting option.

Agree with sav, OKC clearly had a very fixed criteria for a return on Harden:

An elite wing scorer off the bench (we don't have anyone better than Martin will be)
A young prospect not at the PG/ SF/ PF spot (we don't have any of these)
A bunch of future picks (we have plenty of these)

Short of getting a third team involved I don't think there's any way we could have offered them what they want. Our best bet will probably be to revisit an Eric Gordon trade in the offseason.

I'm not too disappointed. I think Beasley can be the player that Harden would be for us.

Only difference is that Harden is better at getting to the FT line. Let's see how Harden does as "The Man"

I completely agree, they will not be the same players as last season. That's pretty much guaranteed in a change of environment, and as players develop as they gain more experience. And players in their early twenties improve >90% of the time.
