Hakim Warrick

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Wed Nov 14, 2012 3:27 pm

Cats fan here, and we've just traded for Hakim Warrick. You guys had Warrick the last couple years. What's his game like? I remember him being good with the Grizzlies a few years back but he appears to have fallen off some. What made NOLA trade him to us for so little (Matt Carroll)?

He has a solid post game (draws a lot of fouls) and a solid midrange shot. But se's terrible at anything else (defense, rebounding, basketball IQ) which is why he made our team worse when he was on the court. He can be useful if you need an offensive spark off the bench for like 5 minutes per game.

He can jump, and he can dunk, and he cannot do all the rest that a basketball player is supposed to do.

Don't get any expectations, so this way u will be able to enjoy his game when he makes his crazy dunks or laugh when he makes his funny bloopers

Basically what everyone else said here. This guy could be a beast on defense yet its the opposite. He can give you a few highlight dunks but that's bout it. Whenever he gets the ball good luck getting it back because he's attacking the rim with vengeance. Overall, IMO one of the worse Suns players in the past 10 years.

hes a great player to put in when you are in a scoring drought...not saying he will end that drought, but he is not shy about taking shots and attacking the rim. his jumper is decent, defense is bad, dunking is legit.

So... better than Tyrus Thomas plus he's expiring?

Awesome!

Warrick is probably the worst defender in the league. He can shoot a mid range J(but takes a lot of bad shots) and finish at the rim as long as he doesn't need to dribble. He also draws fouls at a good rate. He hurts the team in all other facets though and is a net negative.

With Mullens, Biyombo, Thomas, and occasionally MKG rotating for PF minutes, I hope he shows us the offense you guys are talking about. I like the drawing fouls bit. He shoots 73% for his career, and we need a big that can get to the line and hit his FTs. Mullens camps around the 3-point line and only has a couple FTAs on the season, Thomas is apparently in love with his horrible mid-range shot (worse than what you guys are saying about Warrick), and Bismack, Haywood, and Diop are pretty poor free throw shooters. I think we'll be able to play Warrick to his strengths.

Maybe MKG will rub off on him....he seems to have rubbed off on a lot of the other guys there. His winning mentality is pretty incredible. Glad you guys seem to have some exciting players again.

He can attempt dunks from anywhere on the court. If he's open at around halfcourt range, he'll try to dunk it.

If he's closer in the paint, he'll usually draw a foul, which is nice.

He can't rebound, and he's one of the worst defenders I've ever seen.

He has a funky jumpshot that should go in a lot more than it does.

Nice dude with a cool beard. Good lockerroom guy. Pretty much useless unless you need to draw a foul, in which case you put him on the floor, watch him shoot free throws, and then yank him before his man torches him on the other end.

He will try to dunk from the free throw line, realize he won't reach the rim, and then release the ball for a brick.

Sometimes he will actually give you a good dunk.

That's it. He sucks at everything else. And he will be abused on defense.

His aggreesiveness is a really nice thing he has on offence.

Attacked the basket like no other player I've ever seen, even with his shoddy handles. Many times he brought us back into the game just to attacking the rim and drawing a whole bunch of fouls. He converted at the line at a great rate. He's also a pretty good finisher off the Pick and Roll, and well... he'll attempt the mid range shot.

Pretty sub-par at everything else though. Zero back to the basket game. Pretty bad defence. His long arms and quickness make him a much better zone defender, probably situated around the top of the key. but shocking man defender. Very low BBIQ, and yeah....

I recall we tried playing him at SF towards the end of his tenure here, and he wasn't as abused on D. Can certainly defend SFs better than SFs, but unfortunately that's not saying much.

I always felt he played his best defense when we ran a zone, and he was at the top of the key, like we used to do with Marion a few times when we had him guarding guys like Parker. Warrick would get his hands on passes, and then be able to run the fast break. Unfortunately that thought wasn't run often enough.

Too much of a tweener. Very agressive with the dunks when he has the opportunity to (ie whenever he's 3PT line in) and as a result draws his fair share of fouls.
