Some early metrics on the Suns

Not a lot here that should surprise. Gortat and Dragic both rate very well. Gortat by far our most important player in terms of on court/off court stats, largely because of our lack of front court depth.

Some really small sample sizes for the end of the bench guys skew their numbers, however Morris current rates as one of the worst players in basketball. Was nice to see him show a pulse at the end of last game, his only slightly positive appearance all year. His rating are stunningly bad though, especially given the large amount of minutes he has received.

Michael Beasley is continuing his career trend of being a total disaster. Only 8 games in and his "win shares" point to him single handedly costing the Suns in the neighborhood of 8 victories over the course of the season. His true shooting numbers are among the worst in basketball.

But back on the good news. I liked the Dragic signing but I think we all were somewhat concerned that the numbers he put up as a starter last year in Houston were an aberration, but so far we have gotten a very good Dragic, especially in terms of shooting efficiency. And Gortat, while down his last game, is actually an improved player so far this year, especially defensively. The fears of his demise with no Nash seem should calm.

Despite an awful start to the year offensively Dudley has managed to have a more positive than negative impact.

Small sample size but so far Wes Johnson is who the Wolves thought he was. (-4.7 production!) He will be probably be playing in Singapore this time next year.

But again... I knew Morris was playing very very poorly, but these stats are horrific. Giving up a 25.7 PER to his opponent while putting up a 7.9 for himself. Horrific. Still has time to turn it around but right now he is producing at a level well below what you would expect from even a D-League player.

Yeah, I always noticed that, even when Morris was seemingly putting up good #s in the summer league, his shooting % was typically awful and he'd go like 5-17. And of course that was against inferior competition. I noticed his brother played well last night though.

Beasley should definitely not be a starter and all the numbers in the past suggest he is much better at the 4. So, if he even deserves to be on the court at all, it is probably at the backup 4 position. But then of course what do you do with Morris? The center depth is killing us.

Beasley has zero trade value...actually negative trade value.

Yep. Agree on all points. Passing on Faried to take Morris is so depressing. A guy who was obviously going to be able to finish, rebound and defend... but who needs him? Lets take a power forward who does not rebound or defend... or finish, but has a decent jumper.

And yes, Beasley is a negative asset. We will need Isiah Thomas back in the league to find trade partner. The Wolves desperately shopped Beasley last season while he had a few months left on a 6 mil deal and the only offers they got were even worse contracts in return (Jeff Blake). The Suns go and toss him the same rate he was already shown to be a negative asset, but compound the negativity by giving him 3 years. Just awful.

The only way Beasley had positive value is in the last year of his deal, so we'll have to wait this and next year to deal him probably.

Morris is a chucker. I dunno what else to say. He has the 3rd highest FGA per36 on our team, behind Shannon "offensive spark plug" Brown and Michael "go-to guy" Beasley. There is no reason why a big man like himself is not shooting a better % unless he's chucking.
