Suns fans:What would Phoenix need from Boston to get Gortat?

Post#1 » by robbie84 » Sun Dec 16, 2012 6:55 am

Celtics fan here.
So we want Gortat. I don't know if we are over rating him, but the consensus is that he's a solid big man that can play starter minutes.
He'd be effective getting easy looks from Rondo like he was with Nash, and he's not bad at running and also defending the pick and roll.
For us, it's also important that our starting center can protect the paint while Garnett is pulled away from the basket to defend other power forwards...
ie: Bosh sitting in the corner for the Heat while Lebron and Wade drive to the hoop.
Is Gortat at least reasonable at protecting the rim?

Finally, and most importantly.
What do you think the Phoenix front office wants in return for Gortat?
Has he fallen out of favor? Do they picture keeping him long term?
Celtics fans tend to think a package along the lines of these following suggestions might get the deal done.
What do you think as a Phoenix fan and also what would the front office do?

1) Avery Bradley+Brandon Bass for Marcin Gortat
2)Brandon Bass+Courtney Lee+ Fab Melo for Marcin Gortat.
3)Jarred Sullinger+Courtney Lee+first round pick for Marcin Gortat.
4) Courtney Lee+Barbosa+2 future first round picks for Gortat.

What do you think? Would he turn us into a solid contender and hold down the defense while Garnett rests ?
Would he score more with Rondo finding him more?
What about above trade scenarios?
Thanks!
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

I think it starts with Bradley and then one or both of Sullinger/Melo. Then additional salaries to get it to match up.

I don't much about the Celtics but a Gortat who is motivated will provide solid defense, rebounding and scoring. Rondo would definitely help him score.

Bradley/Sullinger/Melo are a must and either Lee or Bass to make the money work. Suns can also add in Dudley if need be, but anything less and the Suns walk away.

He has fallen out of favor a bit, as he is frustrated with how sucky our team has become and he has been very vocal about it. Add in his agent talking about how teams like Boston and Chicago are interested in him, and it infuriates him that he could be playing for a contender, but instead is stuck here.

He is a good player. Top 10 C, a great re-bounder and a great defender. He is much better than his stats this season show. He is upset and not giving 100%, hoping to force us to trade him. The problem is our FO isnt stupid (anymore) and knows his value, and wont let teams lowball us for him. We have had plenty of offers going back to last year, and have turned them down due to how much value we know he has. We also wont let Gortat make us make a trade where we dont get full value him in return either.

Long story short, Gortat would be a great player for Boston, and can really help put you guys over the top, but you are going to have to pay for him just like every other team will. Bradley/Lee/Sullinger/Melo for Gortat/Dudley or Frye. Thats what its going to take. Listen to your boards insider, as he has pretty much stated the same.

Do you mean all three of Bradley, Sully, Melo and Lee or Bass ?
Or just one?
Celtics are going to desperately try and hold on to Bradley or Sully.
Can't see this happening if they have to give away both Sully+Bradley.

Maybe Sully, Lee and Melo+pick
thanks for the feedback too, appreciated.

I ment all 3 and then either Lee or Bass. We have no need or want for Lee or Bass, but they are just salary filler to make the trade go through.

And i know the Celtics will try hard to keep Bradley, Sullinger, im not too sure, but they both will be involved with the Suns asking price. Either the Cetics give them up for Gortat and compete right away (while you guys still have the Rondo.Pierce/Garnett core), or else you might as well not even trade for Gortat and start to re-build with Bradley/Sullinger. Im sure if given a choice, your FO will do whatever it takes to continue being a top contender and a threat while you still have Pierce/Garnett. Its just like how the Suns were, we ended up trading picks and young guys to keep our window open, and take on more experienced guys that could help us asap, rather then later down the line. Hell, thats how you guys ended up getting Rondo! He was our pick that we drafted and traded away to you guys to make space for someone we could use and didnt need to spend time developing. Teams do it all the time.

So like i said, we have no need/want for Lee/Bass. They are crap to us. Just filler. We already own 10 picks over the next 3 years, so i dont think picks will be to high on our charts as things we want either. All we want is Bradley/Sullinger/Melo.

We don't need Sullinger, we already have about 3 PFs.

Bradley, Melo + 1st rd pick.

But I likely see Boston needing a 3rd team cause I think our FO thinks very highly of Gortat.

Barbosa, Terry and Green for Gortat. Anything less and Suns laugh.

I reckon Lee is the best bet for the $$ filler for this deal. Played with Dragic last year and would fit in nicely as a wing player.

The only fear I have is getting a center from somewhere. Surely a Boston trade would have to be a 3-way?

e.g:
Sanders:
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=d6x8aeg
Udoh: (possibly more likely because Bucks break even in cap space?)
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=cwku3cm

Both include Boston's 2013 pick -> Suns

Suns will not give up both Dudley and Gortat for a package that is headlined by Avery Bradley.

WTF? We don`t need Barbosa and Terry at all in this moment of time and Green is a tweener who is grossly overpaid (he is due 35 mil `til 2016.).

I completely agree with everything Kerrsed said on this subject. Bradley, Sully and Melo or no soup for you, Celts fans! :)

Bradley is a MUST.

I think we want:

Bradley, Sully and an expiring contract, so Boston has to trade Lee or Bass to a third team involved.
We do not need to give them Dudley, he is an important player for us.

I'd rather take my chances on a potential star than trade for more 'bits'

Throw caution to the wind. Gortat, Wes, Beasley, Marshall for Bynum, Dorrell...I doubt PHI says no - they get nice depth on the bench, an expiring with Wes and a legit starting C...

:D

We need a star, or at least someone with potential to be one...

I don't like these Celtics assets at all.

Lee - bad long term contract, has a negative trade value.
Sullinger - red-flagged by doctors, bad defender, cant jump over a phone book.
Melo - very raw, probably should have stayed in college another year.
Bradley - coming back from a double shoulder surgery, unproven over a full season.

IMO the Suns should try to consolidate talent, not trade our best trade chips for spare parts.

If the Suns traded for Bynum, I'd probably stop watching basketball.

Only way for me to "not mind" a 76ers Bynum deal is if Turner comes with him.... any others no....

well Jrue Holiday too... :-)

Bynum DOES NOT like basketball... in his head, he is retired... or "zoned out" just getting money.

Oden > Bynum....
