Robin Lopez trade a mistake?

Post#1 » by garrick » Fri Dec 28, 2012 5:38 am

Robin has been playing decently at least on the offensive end for the Hornets so far so this brings up the question should we have kept him?
He is still rebounding poorly with just a shade over 5 rpg which is not surprising but he's hitting around 52 percent of his fga and averaging career highs in scoring.
Has Robin finally turned his career around?

Slowpez said that he doesn't want to stay in Phoenix and if we don't trade him he will pick up his qualifying offer and leave in the off-season for nothing. Trading him for a 1st rounder was the right move.

I still hate him as a player and as a person.

Although he has had a couple of good games he is only averaging what Scola is averaging for us.

No very glad he is gone. Its better not to deal with the habitual injuries, inconsistent play, no effort to rebound, and bull anger management issues and bad attitude. it was time for him to move on.

he would have hurt us more than help is in the long run and short run to be honest

If we part(ed) with Gortat then perhaps keeping Lopez would have been the best move. But right now Lopez still isn't very good (in my opinion) and we also got a 1st rounder for him.

I'd rather have Memphis' pick than Slowro.

Yep. Even a late 1st rounder is better than an erratic Lopez who is consistently injured.

If we had traded Lopez for Beasley, I'd still think it was a good trade. Robin will never be anything more than a mediocre center in the NBA. Yeah, he shows flashes here and there, but he's not consistent. Frankly, I don't believe he even fully comprehends the game of basketball.

I'd much rather have Lopez and his current contract than Beasley. But I agree the pick is better than Lopez.

They got two picks, Brad Miller (retired) and then signed Jermaine O'neal. RoLo has been putrid on the defensive glass but more than solid on offense, has slashed his foul rate and is blocking a lot of shots. He's playing well, but he's not doing anything JO isn't and O'neal is actually playing better defense.

Don't think it was really a bad move, personally.

I think the ROLO trade was huge mistake... 7 footers dont grow on trees, and even if he comes close to what his brother is thats good enough. If we had him that could make room for a gortat trade to lets say the celtics

Lopez is just as inconsistent now as he was with the suns:
just look at his numbers....going from most recent to past

8/7
9/8
29/3
24/11
10/6
22/9
6/1
8/3
10/1
6/8
2/10
20/8
2/3

yes, i will admit he's had some nice games...but its EXACTLY how he's played with the suns. so if you didnt like the trade when it happened, that's fair. but if you thought it was a good trade then, and regret it now...face the facts. he's no better now than he was in his second year with the suns.

he CAN be a great player, but i dont think he cares enough to be consistant. he's still a terrible rebounder for his size, and has a limited game.

i dont regret trading him away. If we let gortat go, then i MIGHT rethink, but as it stands, he'd drive me just as nuts now as he's done his entire career with the suns.

I guess it depends who is drafted with the pick we got for him, hopefully we will get a serviceable player in the late 1st but I really have zero faith in the scouts and GM to get us a pick that doesn't suck.
So far our draft picks have been busts aside from Morris and even he is a bit iffy but at least we picked the better twin this time. :)

If he was his brother...if only,

And he doesn't play like a 7 footer, he crouches down and plays like a guy that is 6'6 or so, its why his rebounding is so atrocious and he refuses to fix his game.

He's slow, oft injured, a bad rebounder, and an inconsistent scorer. Glad he's gone.

Consistency wins championships not inconsistent knuckleheads who don't show up every night or have one good game for every three bad ones

Glad he is gone 20 pt game followed by a 2 pt game. Only consistency is the bad rebounding and the crazy

Seeing Wesley Johnson's beautiful and gorgeous smile every game is worth it.

I agree. I'll take a useless player in Johnson any day over Rolo. I don't usually hate any players that have worn a Suns uni, but he was one of them.
