I can't believe this...even from Amare

No Amare they tried to teach you but you were just too busy with your record label and clothing line. Didn't he use to make a statement annually about how he was going to focus on defense this season and he never did? It's sad that a grown man and a 10 year league veteran making $20 MILLION per year blames not playing D on everyone else; I have zero respect for him as a person.

Apparently Mike did not run defensive drills while with the Suns but he had solid one on one defenders in Marion, Bell and KT so the Suns did not rank dead last in defense.

The personal hate against Amare here is ridiculous.
And honestly his off-court resume is pretty impressive. Calling him "low-iq" and "stupid" is bull. Where is your indication that he has a low IQ? He speaks well, he markets himself well, he runs some business and overall is a pretty likable guy.
Seems like some people on here have complexes.

i dont hate amare like some people here, but i am almost positive he has said something like this before. i seem to remember him talking about becoming a great defender, and him watching tons of videos while he was injured. maybe i am wrong, but amare always says some funny things lol.

Okay, where do I begin with this? First of all, Amare is my favorite basketball player EVER. When I mean ever, I mean ever. I love this guy. I'm the biggest Amare fan in this world, and would still welcome him back in a Suns uniform any day of my life even with his contract.
BUT for him to say this, pisses me off!!! What did Amare say every offseason here in Phoenix? I'm gonna work on my defense. What did he say to start seasons? He's a better defender. So for him to say he was never taught defense pisses me off. That's all he ever said here in Phoenix. I'm playin better D, I'm workin so hard on defense.. I'm preparing myself better defensively. blah blah blah blah.
Point blank.... YOU CAN'T BE TAUGHT DEFENSE, YOU EITHER WANT TO PLAY IT OR NOT!!!!!!!!

That's wrong, defense needs to be taught and I can't remember any guy coming out of college/high school that could already defend on a high level. I also don't think that Amar'e didn't care about defense I just believe that he lacks natural instincts and even BBIQ (on defense) to be an effective defender. Looking back at his time in Phoenix I didn't see many games where he didn't even try. Right now, Amar'e lost quite a few steps and I don't see any chance how he would become a better defender now in his 30's.

Yes, he basically says this every offseason. Then comes back on the court and wonders aimlessly through the lane and plays ring around the rosie when defending screens. He is an idiot.

I don't know why people are freaking out, I'm fairly certain that Amare has said something to this extent every season since D'Antoni left.
First it was Porter -----> Gentry -------> D'Antoni (again) ------> Woodsen
It's more humorous than anything.

This isn't the first time Amare has thrown his ex-coach under the bus by saying they didn't teach any defense.
C'mon Amare, there's only so many people you can blame before the finger gets pointed back at you.

Amare says this every year. If he has cared about it this much and no coach has taught him (which I highly doubt), why wouldn't he simply ask any of the coaches??
