Yes you read correctly, not the best basketball game of all time... but the best sports game period. To be honest I stopped playing all sports games years ago because aside from the minor innovations and roster updates it was basically the same game. This game forced me to reconsider due to its sheer amazing awesomeness; if you havent seen it yet and you are burnt out on sports games like I was check this out!

It probably helps that Jay-Z executive produced the game (perfect since he is a big talent and an NBA team owner!) as you can see his fingerprints all over it. Now the game isnt perfect mind you the menus are wierd at first and the learning curve is pretty steep but thats only due to the depth so its worth it.

If anyone here hasnt heard about this game yet here are some cool things-

*Career mode is amazing. You make your own player and then get to participate in a rookie challenge with other star rookies; followed immediately by 3 pre draft interviews with different teams then you get drafted based on your performance in the game and your comments in the sitdowns.

*build up your guy by spending points on stats, legend training camps and signature skills. The signature skills are amazing but you can only have 5 so you have to choose wisely; they range from brick wall (hard screens that drop people to the floor) to deadeye (can shoot with a hand in the face without penalty)...so hard to choose!

*Amazing realistic gmaeplay. Points for your character are givin based on your production (stats) as well as your "teammate grade" which is a sliding scale that is affected by everything you do on the court. For me the teammate grade is great because you get positive bumps for things like filling the lane on a fast break correctly or playing good D whereas you lose points for leaving your man unguarded, getting scored on or turning the ball over etc. This really is what makes it more realistic you cannot constantly cheat you really have to play position basketball.

*All the goodies. From the wide selection of playable legends like both dream teams and for the first time ever in any game SIR CHARLES BARKLEY. I dont use xbox live but I hear its has very deep online play as well. Speaking of extras not only can you design your own signature shoe in the game...YOU CAN HAVE IT MADE AND SENT TO YOU. Seriously some overachieving.

*Attention to detail. If you leave your man on defense your teammate score goes down. Post game interview responses affect how teammates and fans view you. You can even talk to your GM if you get itchy and watch to ask for a trade like I did in Boston; then I got booed for 3 games before getting traded to Houston where I immediately became a starter and turned thier season around leading them to the playoffs. Alot of funny GM discussion topics ranging from throwing coach under the bus to complaining about another player or minutes.

*Do to the incredible depth of control you have there is a heavy learning curve not to mention it takes time to build your stats up so there is some patience required. If you have kinect you can yell 'clear out' or more specific things like 'set a screen for Kobe' as there are literally 9 pages of kinect commands but if you get angry and cuss alot well...check this out here are the actual verbal commands for a technical foul:

I'd say it's the best sports game ever. And I've played a ton. But it also depends if they're lumping racing games into that, because if so, Burnout Paradise wins that one.

From a casual fan's perspective I can understand why it's loved. But as someone who's played 500+ hours of Hall of Fame since 2K11, 2K13 is utter trash. The game is completely unrealistic and unplayable on default or sim, unless of course you play like Smoove and pump up your player to an MVP by farming VC and put up 110 ppg by exploiting the offense in the same way every time.

I'm not even sure if it's an upgrade on 2K12. The game got as much hype as the Lakers....with similar results.

I've played a lot of 2k13 and while it is a very good sports game, its flaws became very apparent as I played more. The AI is atrocious and I began to recognize animations and other scenarios that I wouldn't be able to defend...before they occurred. Again, about the AI; I wouldn't say the game is realistic with how dumb your teammates are and the ridiculous plays the AI pulls off in desperation - and just being a basketball fan for so long you can feel that 2k13 isn't real basketball. Ankle breakers...oh boy this a big no-no because in 2k13 there is an ankle breaker or two every game.

The roster support is pretty bad too, with some missing players, incorrect lineups and positions etc. Certain players they added to the rosters were done in create-a-player.

I don't think having Jay-Z on board was a smart idea either. The user interface looks gaudy and the soundtrack (in my opinion) is better suited to introducing us to lesser known/ underground artists like previous installments did.

Those are just the flaws I see in the game. Of course I could point out a bunch of pros but happy news doesn't bring in viewers, does it? Right now it's the best we've got so I'll roll with it. The development team at 2k however is best served working on the AI and other gameplay elements rather than the bells and whistles.

Bad roster support? The roster is updated with what's current in the league. If a player is injured and out in the NBA, then on NBA2k13 that player is out as well. Which is kind of annoying, yet cool at the same time.

For what you pay for/expect, I think the roster support is bad. I didn't say anything bad about live injuries (which is good), but they can do more than that in a week or every few days.

I am suprised by all of the hate to be honest. I have been having a blast playing it and everyone I have showed it to has been amazed so far.

Were you guys playing the kinect version? Maybe you arent feeling it if you are playing the inferior pc version or something?

That is exactly the point. They are too many animations where you simply can't defend the opposing players, mostly layups straight under the basket. Someone like Carl Landry basically went through my defender and made the layup even though three guys went for a block.

I'd still say 2k11 is the better game on the other hand, I haven't played 2k13 THAT much.

2k11 is the best basketball game ever. I don't think it's close either. Defense is terrible in 2k13.

When it comes to realistic then NBA2K13 tops them all. Yeah, I agree bout the defense part. If you leave someone open anyone they will make you pay.

Defense is so terribad that it impedes on the realism of the game.

I just loaded up 2K for the first time in a new weeks. 46/20/3 with my 76 C on HOF. We still lose by 15....

CPU doesn't run plays well at all/ can't cut/ can't rotate/ always sags off contact.

Game is completely un-enjoyable

I don't consider any sports games very realistic. I'm sure they bring in experts to help but at the end of the day the games are made by...game developers.

I swear its like we are playing 2 different games. I personally love the defense but it takes time to get use to; I wish they had the nickname the blanket because thats how I cover people. Did you guys honestly put time in to learn the controls or did you just play a couple games then quit in frustration? I

I don't plan on getting Live until the next xbox-dont ask its complicated. I live up in north Phoenix though if you ever want to play some games, smoke out/hang out or go shoot hoops; im still working myself back into "basketball shape" but I can still hold my own as is. In my defense getting back into shape is alot harder when you smoke the mindboggling amount of weed that I do.

i know it is not famous in america, the graohics look kinda old, but i never enjoyed a sports game like pes6.

Hard for me to judge since im not really a soccer guy infact the only sport and only team I follow are the Suns. Which is probably a good thing since the Cardinals are in flames and who knows if Hockey is even going to ever come back.

And I never said the game was perfect, the thread title says best sports game and not game with the least amount of flaws. I personally wouldnt include racing because I was refering to team sports when I said sports and racing opens up a huge door with rally, nascar, motocross, formula the list goes on and on.

They need to update and bring back eve of destruction; that would be alot of fun online. Driving in a smash up derby is epic. Does anyone remember that old racing game where you could race to build up your cars by customizing and the brave ones could even race online for pink slips. The loser has the car deleted and the winner gets it downloaded to him..I always thought that was a cool idea. Talk about pressure.
