US Airways Center

It was once known as the America West Arena, but was then changed to the US Airways Center. I just recently got used to calling it US Airways Center and it figures that very soon it will go by yet another name. As most probably know by now, the merger between American Airlines and US Airways is official. Basically, American Airlines has purchased US Airways, thus US Airways will cease to exist. It would seem logical that if American wanted to keep the naming rights to the arena, they'd call it the American Airlines Center. Not so fast.... that already exists in Dallas. Wait, they can call it the American Airlines Arena! Nope. That's in Miami. So unless they can come up with another synonym for a building where sports and other events are held, they might just decide to sell the rights to the arena.

If that's the case, I ask fellow Suns' fans, which company would you like to see buy the naming rights for our arena and what would you like it to be called?

A couple ideas I've had:
-Across the street Chase owns the rights to "Chase Field". Maybe they'd buy the Suns' arena and call it "Chase Arena" or "Chase Center".

-The University of Phoenix owns the rights to the Cardinals' facility (Univeristy of Phoenix Stadium), so perhaps we could see the "University of Phoenix Arena".

-Remember the craziness surrounding the Cardinals stadium before UoP bought it? "Pink Taco Arena", anyone???

-Speaking of which, Cox Communications does a lot of business here, maybe they'd buy the rights.... "Cox Arena".

-Home Depot sort of has a partnership with the Suns' (or they did) and they already own the "Home Depot Center" in California. Maybe they'd be interested in a "Home Depot Arena", a well. It would fit in nice with the whole Planet Orange theme.

-Fry's Food does a lot of marketing with the Suns already and are based here in Arizona. They'd certainly make sense.

I'm sure there are a lot of better ideas and definitely more humorous and fitting ones, so lets here them.

My dad worked marketing for SWA and I once asked him why they never sponsored an arena - he replied, why name one arena when you can put advertising in every arena. At the time it was true, go to AAC in Dallas and big SWA banners were everywhere.

That's a long way of saying, I wish they would call it the Southwest Colliseum. Something different and it doesn't sound too commercial.

But that would ruin Sarver's plan of phasing out purple next season when they debut new uniforms and announce the new, official team colors are orange and black.

One quick point of clarification. USAirways is actually the one doing the buying here. American is larger and has more name recognition, so that is why USAirways is going with that name.

That said, I think my favorite of the suggestions was Labcorp Center, because we could call it "The Petri Dish"

Beyond that Dallas plays in American Airlines Arena (AAA?) already, I think, so we'll see what happens.
