No topic for your draft pick? Cmon suns, you can do better ;)
What's with all this talk the front office sees him like a PG? You just drafted Marshall and Archie never showed any PG instincts.
Or am I missing something?

You're not missing anything, we're scratching our head on that one too.

Nice Doctor Who reference.

He's a combo guard. What's not to get?

While I agree that trying to make Goodwin a PG is a bad idea, it wasn't the guys currently calling the shots that made the Marshall pick.

Goodwin actually is a good playmaker, but I like him better as an attacking playmaking SG. I'll worry about the team trying to force him into being a PG if they continue to force it on him even if he shows he's not suited for it.

Isn't he like 6'5? Good size for shooting guards. Idk why some people are slotting him as PG in their rosters.

Positions aren't that important in today's NBA. IMO most of his playing time will be with one of Dragic and Marshall on the court.

This....

Russel Westbrook isn't a PG either. I think the Suns want his play to emulate Russ' game, pure and SIMPLE. He is 18 years old and trying to define him at this point and time is a little ridiculous. McD did say that we could shape him at this point in his career, which is why we took him. The guy attacks the basket like no other....

He will never be a "SG," but he can create off of the dribble, so when he does this and defenses collapse on him he has to be willing to pass the ball. They see him in a Rondo/Westbrook hybrid mold and at 18 yrs of age.

What ever they are doing, they know better than us. I LOVE the pick and hopes he becomes one of our future big three. :D

How much playing time do you see Archie Goodwin getting in his rookie season?

Goodwin playing the SG with no shot is not good. Coaches know what players are....it is more the players don't know who they are.

What about him playing PG with more turnovers than assists? I don't have a problem with the team trying to develop him as a PG and if it works out then great. I just feel after watching him on Team USA and at KU where he's spent time in both roles he's better suited as an attacking SG.

He is young on the TO/Assts... If you can play LBJ without a trusted J, think how limited Goodwin would be as a SG without one. I think he would be much more effective going to the rim with the ball in his hands initially and passing off to a SG who could shoot. That way you'd have better spacing. Just think if Len was posted up on Goodwin's side of the court....Goodwin's guy would sag like a wanna be thug.. Then when you passed it to him, he can't shoot, and he couldn't get to the rim because everyone is sitting down there.

With Wiggins at the SF :D and a SG with range on the opposite side, plus a PF with a 20ft'r that would lead to good spacing for a drive and kick or entry post pass.

I think the plan is to develop him as a Tyreke/Wall/Parker/Bledsoe type of guard, not a typical facilitator like Nash or Rubio.

I'm hoping he's a combo of Stuckey/Evans/George Hill...Has the same physical attributes, give or take...

One thing Archie definitely needs to improve upon quickly is FT%. Last year he shot 63.7% FT which is, to be honest, horrible. For a guy who wants to make a living slashing to the basket and drawing fouls, you must be able to convert FTs at a respectable rate. Archie took a very nice 6.4 free throw attempts per game, he just wasn't very good converting.

Russell Westbrook by comparison shoots about 80% FT.

I think with work Archie can definitely improve his FT%. He is only 18 after all!

I think they want him to be ball dominant guard who initiates the Offense as much as possible.
A Tyreke/Westbrook/Harden PG.

They need a sharp shooter /off ball combo guard next to him, a JJ Reddick type who can defend.

Parker and Wall are facilitators. Goodwin does remind me of a bigger Bledsoe, but I've always felt Bledsoe was more of an undersized 2.

As I said I'm fine with trying him at PG. I just feel based on what I've seen of he is much more effective when focusing on his offense and looking to set-up teammates secondary than he is trying to run an offense full time. He'll still need to develop a jumper regardless which guard spot he takes.

He can improve his shot. Jeez man, your acting as if Goodwin's gonna suck at shooting his whole life. Do you know how many guys have come into this league without being able to shoot and then learned? Many!

It's easier to learn how to shoot rather than learn to be a better passer, reading the D, pick and roll etc.

Biggest thing for Goodwin right now is add strength. And his FT shooting like someone said.

Hopefully a lot. I don't want to see him sitting on the bench the whole time or spending time in D League his whole rookie season, he needs to be getting NBA minutes so that he can mistakes and then learn from those mistakes and develop as a basketball player.

I really hope we don't give him the Earl Clark treatment where we just stash him in the bench or D league for most of his season.

Bledsoe has done nothing and is overrated which I do not know how that is possible to even rate the dude!

Goodwin is young and if he stayed another year I could see him as a lottery pick

He is what the NBA is about these days with an aggressive offensive tactic that leads to free throws.

Goodwin plays like Westbrook, Rose, Tyreke and I love that we have a PG/SG like him on our team!

2014 roster and after Gortat to OKC this year

Goodwin (developing), Marshall
Dragic, Lamb
Wiggins or Parker, Dudley
Favors (sign FA 2014, T-ROB
Len, Veteran C, Favors

That would be a fun team

our version of present OKC

Goodwin - Russell Westbrook-lite
Wiggins - Durant-lite
Favors- Ibaka
Lamb- length and defense like sefolosha

Man I kind of hate shoot (or score) first point guards and shooting guards that can't shoot. I guess he has has a shot at being an exciting player, but I just never enjoyed guys like Iverson and Marbury much. At least he's bigger than those guys.
