I felt this could be a good topic for activity purposes, and it's fun dreaming

Picture this scenario:

Suns have won the lottery for the 2014 NBA draft. Oklahoma City fails to reach the Western Conference Finals, and Durant is upset with the direction of the team.

On draft day, as we're all set to pick Wiggins, Oklahoma City calls the Suns draft room and offers this package:

Oklahoma City receives: 2014 first round pick + fillers
Phoenix receives: Kevin Durant

As a Suns fan, would you want us to hang up the phone or accept the offer? (No poll, because I want to see discussion and explanations as to why or why not)

I personally would accept it. Think about what we'd be doing in this situation. We keep all of our assets while also getting Durant, who is STILL young. We'd also have cap space to sign a PF and fill in the rest of our needs.

I'm not really a fan of Durant, so I'd say decline. I'd want to risk it on Wiggins or any of the other players that could potentially pay off.

Although I guess it would be a matter of once he's on the Suns I'd like him much more.

I think it would cost a lot more than that, even if our pick was #1.

I'd do it.

If you can get a top 3 player in the league that's under the age of 25, you do it - everytime.

You pretty much have to. Then people like Aldridge and Love wanting to come here would be VERY realistic. I can't see him wanting to leave to go to Phoenix though. I don't think he will want to leave at all.

Is this not a no brainer? You HAVE to take Durant, surely? Top 3 player perennially, great scorer who works relentlessly on his game and strives for success. If we could lock him up long term then its bird in the hand vs (maybe) two in the bush. I'd love Wiggins as much as the next guy, but after Lebron, isn't he clearly #2?

We'd be stupid not to take him. But I doubt he'd want to play for the suns. After playing in okc, he probably would want to play in a bigger market than Phoenix.

I know this is hypothetical, but the thought of us having a chance at durant is unrealistic. Not to mention the suns actually winning the draft lottery is even more unrealistic ...

Phoenix is a plenty big enough market. Nash was a global favorite and was housed in the valley. It's bigger than Miami.

I thought of this already.

In short.. I do it.


Reasons are;
1. Durant is a top 3 player if not top 2.
2. He can shoot and fits well what the Suns is missing.
3. it attracts FAs.


Cons are
1. Whom ever would be number 1 pick could be a franchise changer, but younger and on a rookie contract.
2. Suns cap room automatically gone and major shuffling might be needed, from a rebuilding team to a contending team.
3. Depending on who the Suns trade for, the team may not be competitive as much as Durant want and he demands a trade or leaves after his contract.




A rookie stud has more patience and the FO has 2-3 seasons to build the team... Durant would want ASAP changes and if its not successful he may not be happy to stay.

You take Durant every time.

I like Wiggins a lot, but no one can say the guy is going to be a top 3 player in the NBA at this point, Durant is already there and improving.

Seriously comparing OKC to Phoenix???

I don't dislike OKC and find that it gets a bad rap, but its definitely not a big city and its not very active in a lot of the "hip" scenes like nightlife/clubs/bars, restaurants/fine dining, etc. etc.

OKC would never ever do it. You never give up a young proven star player to gamble on a rookie. If the 2nd best player in the league is disgruntled, then you don't trade him, you do what you can to please him.

Plus I think Durant knows very well that him by himself can't win any team jack s**t. He needs Westbrook or someone else that's equal or better than Westbrook. Durant wet the bed against Memphis without Westbrook. He's not LeBron, he can't solely carry a team deep into the playoffs like LeBron did with CLE.

They wouldn't even give up Westbrook for Wiggins or anyone in the 2014 draft.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Durant is arguably the best player in the league and much more humble then Lebron. There are no guarantees Wiggins is going to be a superstar.

Durant is Durant; but wiggins could be anything, he could even be Durant.

Would you give up an extremely beautiful woman for one that may be just as beautiful some day if she lost some weight? Go with the sure-thing hottie.

Most pro athletes don't live in their team's city year round and half the season they're on the road anyway. I think Nash spent every summer in NYC...
