I stayed up late one night with my father and watched this live.
My greatest father/son bonding -- was my father and I in relation to Phoenix Suns basketball. I posted some years back as 'traxxe' about how my father once had a heart attack during a triple overtime game. And had me sneak in a black and white tv to the hospital and we watched a game together. Sneaking it.
I will never forget the memories the first time I ever went to practices (YMCA) without him. He never missed one until the bypass. And even after he never did.
He sold things to pawn so I could play in team sports.
He and I watched channel 45 on a knob dial uhf television. The radio was on KTAR 620 because we wanted to hear 'zing go the strings' despite the fact that tv and the radio did not sync. I hated it. But even as a kid I knew my father was no longer in good health. And this made him happy to hear Al instead of whomever was doing color on the tube.
The only games I ever saw were the ten dollar ticket ones when my school sold tickets in bulk. (Glendale, AZ) We didn't have much. We had the suns though. And it didn't cost much to be a fan. The rabbit ears had to be just so but we got them just **** right for the best in semi-grainy reception.
Sometimes I am reminded why I love the suns.
Good post Kerrsed.
Thank you.
