The amazing Goran's All-Star chances

About a month ago it looked like Goron, no matter how well he played, would have almost no hope of making the all-star team. But since then he has had probably the best run of his career and several Western all-star caliber guards have gone down with injuries.

Kobe, Westbrook and Paul are all either confirmed or probably out, Goran also no longer faces competition for the selection from Bledsoe after Eric's recent injuries. That leaves:

Harden (lock)
Curry (lock)
Parker (lock)
Lillard
Lawson
Ellis
Thompson
Conley

Of the guys I dont think are locks the only one I think will most likely get selected over Goran is Lillard. If the West takes 5 or 6 guards then I like Goran's chances, but if Paul comes back early then Goran is probably screwed.

I gotta say, all the people who were comparing Goran's potential role on this team to Manu before the year... kudos. He has displayed a level of craftiness that is very Manu-esque, playing a whole lot like Manu in his prime, except not quite as good from the outside but more dangerous in transition.

Lillard should be a lock too. The Blazers are rolling harder than us and he is playing outstanding ball.

Goran should come before the rest on that list, tho.

Lillard, like mentioned above, is a lock as well.

It sucks that they are going away from the positional votes for the All Star game. Dragic played SG for much of this season and considering that Harden is the only SG better than Dragic in the West, he would have got in easily if they had kept the old system.

Now that you mention it, yeah, Goran's best chance is to be considered a SG.

Goran is putting up better numbers than Parker...

Yeah I don't see how Parker is a lock this season. I think the Suns' surprising record will also hold a lot of sway for Dragic to be selected by the coaches.

Are we sure Dragic's numbers are better than Parker's? Almost 18-6 at 51%fg and 44%3pt. Pair that with their team record (btw, how is it a surprise?) and I think he is indeed a lock.

how does the voting in system work? I hope dragic doesn't split votes with bledsoe and end up losing because of it.

Or do you guys think it'll come down to silver when people who are voted in can't play and he has to pick their replacements? I don't think position matters at that point right?

They just look at guards not pg or sg. I think it will be close if all the injured guys don't play. West will take a minimum of 5 gs and maybe 6. IMO Gorans right in that 5-6 mix.

I've said it a number of times, even going so far as to suggest (before the season) that he should transition to a 6th man role like Manu. Basically a sub that plays starters minutes but tears up other 2nd units. We've been starting him with Bledsoe but use him much the same way. He goes out really early then comes back at the end of the 1st / early 2nd and dominates opposing 2nd unit PGs. It's a big part of the reason we miss Bledsoe so bad.

His chances are slim but he deserves to be in

The reason Parker is a lock is because All-Star selection is not entirely about numbers. Parker a multi-year all-star and all NBA player, he is the best player on arguably the best team in the West. He is a lock.

it doesnt matter how the votes go. his only chance is to be selected by the coaches.

Slim chance but if he can continue to elevate his game with Bledsoe on the bench, he could have a strong case as he is carrying our team as much as Lilliard is carrying his.

If an injured player gets voted in doesnt the commissioner pick their replacement?

If nobody miss it due to injury,

Curry
Bryant
Durant
Griffin
Howard

Paul
Parker
Westbrook
Harden

Nowitzki
Love
Aldridge

No Lillard unless some injury, no Ellis (Dirk is better), no Lawson (backcourt crowded), no KThompson, Lee, Parsons, no Randolph, Conley, no Davis, no Dragic or Bledsoe, no Ibaka, no Cousins, no Duncan,...

The West is crowded, but those 7 will go if nobody miss it due to injury.
For Dragic to go you need at least, 3 guys missing it, because both Lillard and Davis will go before Dragic.

It's virtually impossible for him to be voted in as starter. Our only hope is the coaches.
