If the Phoenix Suns had forced him to start the regular season in a place where he was no longer wanted, constantly pondering his next destination and answering questions about the latest trade rumor, Marcin Gortat doesn’t believe that he would be nearly as productive as he has been thus far for the Washington Wizards.
“I would’ve had a terrible season. I would be miserable,” Gortat said recently.
And I thought this was really interesting:
He is learning to adjust to sharing the floor with another big man who occupies similar spots on the court while dealing with fewer touches inside than he was accustomed to receiving in Phoenix.
“It’s clear that I’m not the first or second option on this team. I'm pretty much four or fifth option sometimes with Nene, or Brad or John, touching the ball a lot,” Gortat said. “I'm here to make sure the team is going to win. Take care of the dirty stuff. Rebounds. Blocks. Play some good defense. Try to bring some pick and roll presence.
“Playing in Phoenix was a totally different story,” he said. “I had more space under the basket. I knew that [I] was going to get the ball inside and I was the guy who was going to work. Here, it’s a different story. But I can say, I don’t mind doing that. As long as we’re winning, I don’t mind at all.”
Didn't he complain quite a bit here about not getting touches and stuff? But now all of a sudden its all good in Washington? Hmm...
BTW he actually has some nice things to say about PHX too. He says there's no hard feelings and that he isn't surprised by the Suns success. Good read if you have the time:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/wi ... story.htmlOverall I don't have any hard feelings against Gortat. He might have complained a little too much but he never halfassed it and always came ready to play. I respect that. He was the first big man that we had who was good defensively and didn't completely suck on offense in a very long time. Wish him the best of luck except for when he plays the Suns.
Plus we could sure use Washington's pick in the nice upcoming draft

I expect them to come to play and try to win this one for Gortat who he himself will be fired up. Our big win on national TV might get them fired up as well. However, I expect the momentum from that game to carry on into this one and hopefully the guys play with confidence now that they know it can be done even without Bledsoe.
I think they kind of got a little down on their potential once Bledsoe went down but now they can see that they are still a good team and should play like one.

This will be fun simply because of Gortat. Wiz are a below average team playing in a below average conference. I wouldn't worry too much about Gortat. We all know he always talked a great talk but rarely backed it up on the court. His numbers haven't changed at all.

Gortat's argument about touches, was really about guys like Brown and Beasley getting as many touches as they wanted, while he and others were not. It was a lack of discipline from the coaching staff, that set him off.
But was he wrong? He was our second to third best player, his touches should reflect that.
But who cares about Gortat now? He isn't a Sun, and while I liked what he did here, I hope his team loses.
As for the team, it would be great if the whole team plays similar to Wednesday night, except for all the missed free throws.

yeah, I don't want them to win, but I've never had a problem with Gortat myself. seemed like a pretty decent dude.

I think you're being a little too conservative. Suns 287, Wiz 24. Gortat with 7 points, 3 boards, and a blocked shot.

I don't personally hate him, but as a player the dude was soft as ****. He settled for jumpers and fadeaways when he should've been dunking on the opponent, hence the nickname polish hammer.

Who guards John Wall? I surely hope it isn't Dragic.
I think Goran can do a good job on Beal though. Tucker on Wall, they are almost the same height anyway. And Green on whoever their SF is (is it still Ariza?)

Noticed that in the pregame Barbosa is really interacting with the rest of the team. Didn't take long for him to fit in. He is truly a nice guy.
