the lakers buy him out, and hopefully he signs with us.

suns are right not to give away more than 1 first rounder, although i'd have thrown in Len.

the lakers wont be able to sign and trade gasol because

a) no other team wants to overpay him (using bird rights)
b) no other team wants to give the lakers any assets if they have to.

come lakers, be nice to gasol. do the humanitarian thing #freegasol

Heat, Thunder, Pacers, Clippers, maybe even Wolves.

he could go to the thunder or clippers, but what's the challenge in that?

We only wanted him because we knew he would come off the books after this season as an expiring contract why would we sign him now?

The "challenge" is getting another ring, not trying to help a young team extend their playoff run.

Since McD has been hired as the GM, he has made the following moves to #IgniteTheFuture for the Suns.
October 26 2013 - Exercised the contract options on forwards Markieff Morris and Marcus Morris and center Miles Plumlee through 2014-15.
October 25 2013 - Traded guards Shannon Brown, Malcolm Lee and Kendall Marshall and center Marcin Gortat to the Washington Wizards for center Emeka Okafor and a 2014 protected first round draft pick.
September 3 2013 - Waived forward Michael Beasley.
August 29 2013 - Traded forward Caron Butler to the Milwaukee Bucks for guard Ishmael Smith and center Vyacheslav Kravtsov. Signed center Alex Len.
July 27 2013 - Traded forward Luis Scola to the Indiana Pacers for guard Gerald Green, forward Miles Plumlee and a future first-round pick.
July 10 2013 - Traded a 2014 second-round pick to the Milwaukee Bucks and traded forward Jared Dudley to the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Eric Bledsoe and forward Caron Butler.
Draft 2013 - Selected centers Alex Len (5th overall pick) and Alex Oriakhi (57th overall pick) and guard Nemanja Nedovic (30th overall pick). Traded the draft rights to guard Nemanja Dedovic to the Golden State Warriors for the draft rights to Archie Goodwin and guard Malcolm Lee.
May 28 2013 - Named Jeff Hornacek head coach.

I do think McD derserves consideration for Executive of the Year, I think the award will probably go to Daryl Morey for signing Dwight Howard. PERIOD

I agree, IMHO. McD missed an opportunity to use the Okafor contract to get a player or players to add to the playoff run. However, I am glad he did not make a trade that included a 1st, which is probably what it would have cost to add Gasol/Deng/Granger.

OP called McD an amateur scrub GM since McD couldn't land Pau and now he thinks McD will sign him if Lakers buy him out? And he thinks the Lakers will actually buy him out? They kept him for his bird rights.

I was actually impressed by both sides. Neither team was desperate.

they can save money that way.

as for keeping his bird rights,

what... the lakers are going to pay him tons of money like they did kobe bryant? and pair him with this version of kobe on a 2 yr rebuilding mission?

or that... other teams are willing to overpay for him (you invoked "bird rights") AND give the lakers assets in return instead of just signing him as a free agent?

i mean, if the lakers overpay (not lowball) gasol, he will return and keep kobe company as black mamba's career fades because money talks, but... is that really going to happen?

if we found out that mcdo refused to give up a first (or any other garbage players/assets) in exchange for gasol...
