Idk why ppl say he isn't athletic, I mean from what I've seen he hops on springs. His jumper isn't broken and Hornacek said he played great D at his workout.

Seems like a smart, humble, hard worker who is going to fit right in. I think he and archie will terrorize people in summer league

I wasn't a huge fan of Warren at first but I like guys with his attitude and work ethic so I'm on board with it. Him filling a desperate need at SF is also a big part of it.
I am still surprised that we gave him a promise though.

That's really good improvement from freshman to sophomore years. I believe in Warren and Archie.

Ok just re-watched that DraftXpress vid of him and here's my observations - love to hear what everyone else thinks about him.
- Looks and plays like Marvin Williams, but with less handles and obviously Marvin has developed his outside shot, but he went #2 so a Marvin Williams-type career guy at 14 is fine with me
- His mid-range and floater/trick shots are a lot like Antawn Jamison - another classic tweener; he scored a lot and turned it over a lot but that looked more out of necessity. Someone who watched more NCAA than me this year can probably elaborate further on that.
- His jumper is very VERY inconsistent, it isn't broken he just needs to set his feet and stop fading. His jumper reminds me a hell of a lot of Tyreke Evans with some of that Lebron fade to it. It isn't knock down by any means but he'll improve for sure.
- The thing that excites me the most is how he compares to Paul Pierce. Hes a thick 3 and he is comfortable slashing or overpowering a smaller guy. Pierce was obviously a much better athlete, defender and 3pt shooter coming out of Kansas, but Warren's ability to beat his man off the dribble and crash into the lane to absorb contact reminds me a little of Maggette (without elite athleticism).
Anyway, there's my 2c on him - I'm fine with the pick considering who was gone/still there.

With all that talking about his D mayby he will be Tucker with better offence

Really hope he improve his 3pt shooting.

I have a friend who goes to North Carolina State and is a big sports junkie and I asked him about Warren.
He said Warren has the best floater he's ever seen. Said that Warren has perfected it so well that its just automatic now, lot of times his teammates don't wait for rebound when he puts up the floater cause its assumed that it will go in. Its that good.
Also said that Warren has interior game of a mobile version of Z-Bo. Knows his limitations around the rim but uses his size (6'8) to his advantage to get shots off.
He said Warren's biggest weakness is that he takes almost all tough shots and that he's a ballhog.
Warren has a high FG % and made most of the tough shots he took, but can he continue to do that in the NBA against better competition? Said that Warren is incapable of getting open looks and that he doesn't even try to get open looks, its as if he prefers to take contested shots.
Warren also hates passing the ball and gets tunnel vision often. On fast breaks or whatever the case it may be, he rarely ever gives the rock up even if double teams comes his way and he sees a wide open man under the rim.
My friend said that from what he knows, many of his teammates don't like him because he's such a ballhog.
Oh and btw the Suns were the most selfish team in the NBA last season, dead last in assists and already have guys like Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic, Gerald Green and PJ Tucker who don't pass the ball very often

This is why I thought we should grab Kyle Anderson. I think he could play the 3 or 4 and help to get the ball moving around better. I like Warren though. We'll see how these guys turn out.

That's why I wanted Anderson too.

Im sooooo happy! TJ is special. I think he's top 5 in this draft. He is old school, and just puts the ball in the basket, and he does it efficiently. I dont worry about him on defense because he has good instincts and very quick hands. Quick hands can make up for not having elite lateral quickness.

Ennis, Archie and Warren. No one is hitting a 3 on that bench. Guys need to work on their shooting before they're ready, let's see if Archie has improved next season after a year of working with Hornacek.

I thought Ennis was a good shooter?

I'm pretty underwhelmed by this pick, but it's not like there was anyone I really wanted available at #14. The Suns FO is definitely in "benefit of the doubt" territory for me, but that doesn't mean I'll assume this is a good pick until TJ actually does something. It's not like we can point to Len or even Goodwin as proof of McDonaugh's drafting prowess. (Goodwin looks very promising for a #29 pick, but he's basically had one good game. Let's not go plucking each other's wicks just yet.)
Definitely hoping for the best, but very prepared for TJ to be somewhere between Earl Clark and one of the Morris twins.

My thoughts:
Warren has premier scoring instincts. You can always work on shooting, but scoring seems to be an innate ability and Warren clearly has that. Also, I don't know if we're giving Hornacek enough credit with his statement - a coach saying, essentially, "We were impressed with him defensively" is worth a lot to me.
Plus, while I like Tucker a lot, this pick was jointly value-oriented and Tucker-insurance. Makes a ton of sense from a business perspective. Plus having someone step into Tucker's role that can, gasp, shoot the ball? That opens the interior up more than you guys realize. No one has to stay home on Tucker - they will have to on Warren.
Bledsoe / Dragic / Warren / [Frye] / Plumlee is a much better lineup spacing-wise than with Tucker. I get that we'll "lose defense", but I'm open to seeing how good/bad Warren is at filling that void.
Finally, the Suns run an offense conducive to Warren's shooting ability. We are out in transition a lot (even more with a healthy Bledsoe) and most of Warren's efficiency occurs around the basket - slashing at the rim or on floaters, etc. All things Warren is great at.
Warren would be less valuable in the half court, more valuable in our system. At least that's my read.
Not a sexy pick, but I like it a lot. More than Hood/Anderson, for sure.
