Free agent Anthony Tolliver has reached agreement on a two-year, $6 million contract with the Phoenix Suns, league sources told RealGM.
His agent, Larry Fox, confirmed the deal on Tuesday night.
On the first day of free agency, every NBA general manager received a hard copy 20-page presentation highlighting Tolliver as the 15th best three-point shooter in the league, his 48.2 percent three-point percentage in the fourth quarter and his strong plus-minus ratios in his career. Tolliver and Fox scoured the free agent market for the best opportunity to play his most effective position as a stretch power forward and 13 teams expressed interest throughout the process.
In Phoenix, Tolliver helps fill the void left by the departure of Channing Frye and gives the Suns a positive veteran leader, proven shooter and member of the executive committee in the NBA players union. Tolliver averaged 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 41.3 percent from three-point range last season for the Charlotte Hornets.
“It’s a great opportunity for me,” Tolliver said by phone. “I went into this free agency and it worked out perfectly when Phoenix contacted my agent. With a great nucleus of young players, and the respect I have for Ryan [McDonough], Jeff Hornacek and the entire organization, it’s a perfect situation. For me, I want to go in there and help any way I can.
“The Suns are an up tempo team, and when I was with Golden State I had a similar style. I’m able to produce at a high level and this style compares to that Golden State team. I can play the three as well, but my natural position is four, rebounding, hitting open shots. The Suns made it clear I’m coming to play the four. Phoenix is a great city, a great family city.”
Tolliver, 29, has averaged 6.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in his six NBA seasons. He carved a shooting role as a stretch-four, but he’s played a majority of his minutes at small forward over the past few seasons. As a power forward, Tolliver had a 34-point performance and a 21-rebound game late in the 2011 season with the Golden State Warriors.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers and Washington Wizards were in detailed discussions with Tolliver before his agreement with the Suns.

Is the 2nd year a team option?
Regardless, I think he will just fill the Slava role from last season unless he beats out Marcus for backup PF.

Anyways, i dont like it, but hey, its already done. Looks like our team is basically set now. Im guessing we gave up on Love and all the other PF's we were rumored to be interested in. So Keiff looks like the starter and Toliver off the bench.
I dont like Toliver. Never have. never will. He just seems like the below average guy, nothing spectacular about his game, nothing flashy, nothing great, no potential, no real upside, just another body for practice.
Whatever. So be it.
I think that's all that he will be. I doubt he gets any meaningful minutes.
He seems like a pretty funny guy though.

That dunk was sooooo f****** awesome wow! Remember it like yesterday.
Remember when a are was coming up and I was so excited for us. Could have been the best player we ever had. I would still take him this year

I honestly think he was signed to get backup 4 minutes. You don't spend $3m to be Slava.

I think he will start, but Kieff will get more minutes. He is not worse than Channing Frye. If anything he is slightly better.

Wow, why would anyone take the time to write an article on Anthony Tolliver?
I just don't like the signing, and this pretty much means we're out of the Love conversation.
I'll be happy if they couple this with also signing Andray Blatche.

So he signed for pretty much the same exact amount that Jason Smith signed for.

Tolliver isn't starting at the 4. Come on now. Fine depth signing type of guy who can get hot and win you a quarter.

He's not starting unless Kieff gets injured or had a brain injury and forgot to play basketball.

Not sure how a 13th man signing for 3 mil per year for 2 years is a bad move. Its a roster filler move. Thats just what roster fillers are getting these days.

There's your backup PF. Called it. If the suns can't get Love they are going to sign a backup for markieff
Don't know if this is the right one though.. 2 years 6 million seems like a lot for him

It's not exactly a big move. Clearly a stop gap so whatever. Unfortunately, the PF/C market sucks right now unless you give up a King's ransom.

Nah, I can't see him starting. But he should be good enough for us to park on the arc and run the pick and pop, which is what we need.
If he can hit the three as often as Frye, I'm good with it and I'd consider us an overall better team.
I'd take Tolliver and Thomas over just Frye.
