Bledsoe deal poll

Are you happy with the final Bledsoe deal?

Hell yeah, we have him locked up for 5 years at 14 a year which will be a steal a few years down the road

No, too much and too long with the injury possibilities and we have like 200 guards

Not entirely sure, it depends on health and plans for our crowded backcourt

Bledsoe deal poll

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Thu Sep 25, 2014 2:47 pm

We have been estimating what percentage of our forum likes the deal. Well lets see what the numbers are. Go ahead and elaborate on your answer. I ran a poll about the 4/63 number, but imo this is a much better deal at 2 million per year less, and an extra year with only 7 million more total on the deal. Much better than matching another team's max.

I'd like another option :D

'I'm ok with the $14m per for 5yrs as he is now under control. So if he plays well, GREAT. If he's a distraction, we can trade him wherever the hell we want and he can't say Jack about it.

Basically a combination of 1 and 4.

Also my happiness will be bitterness if we don't offer Goran the same/very similar deal...'

OK, I edited one of the options. :D

I went with the hell yeah option, but I do agree with some of the sentiments in the other choices - we *do* have like 200 guards, and I *do* hope he's not a distraction.

But the deal itself is a good one, either for us or for a trade at some point.

we should just stop talking about his health now. If he can't count on being healthy, getting him for 48/4 would not have been any better. More important thing is for him to cement himself in the community.

I went with -not entirely sure-

If the Suns plan for Bledsoe is to keep him for many years...that they view him as one of the three stars needed for the coming title runs. It's scary, because there's no insurance whatsoever in the 5 year contract. After Goran gets his pay day and then (hopefully) they move some big talent & big money to the frontcourt, a major Bledsoe injury would be disaster in terms of title runs. I also have some serious doubts about Dragic-Bledsoe being a title contending backcourt even before that. Love both player's talents, but the lack of height makes me question.

It's great if the plan is to continue building up his resume for awhile, and then find a great deal next summer or in season '15-'16. Then I can understand not putting any conditions or team options in the contract. It puts out the vibe-"The Suns training & medical staff must believe his knee is a non-issue...why else would they give Bledsoe 5 years with no conditions?" And 14 million per year is a good value contract for EB's talents.

I'll just bet the Suns do have some fairly unnerving numbers...probabilities vs games played on the likelihood of this, that or other ugly things surrounding his knees...Especially given the way he plays. But those statistics probably aren't too scary or crazy risky if you're just looking out 100? 150 games. The Suns were prepared for 4 years at the get-go. If the plan is to "maxasset" Eric and move him in a year or so, adding a 5th year didn't effect the plan much if at all.

Two things is needed for the deal to be a bargain.

1. He has to play like it's contract year every year although I have nothing to doubt that he wouldn't be able to return to form.

2. Health. Obviously max years is a double-edge sword. We have a potential all-star level guard locked for 5 years but his health could mean we're locked to his contract for 5 years.

As of right now, I think it's an overpay but as I've mentioned many times before, we have to in order to sign/retain top talent since we're not an LA or NY.
