We know we have a big logjam at the guards. Bledsoe, Dragic, Thomas and Green are all starting calibre players.
But there is only one basketball and 96 minutes to share around, so it looks like Green in the odd man out.
Green was an intergral part of our offence last year, and the biggest reason why we won so many games. This year though, he's getting much less minutes, but still averaging 15PPG in 21 minutes. That is ridiculous.
His ability to get hot changes games like no other player I've seen on the Suns, except maybe Amare.
No one on the team can hype of the crowd like Green.
Do you think Green should get more minutes? And at the expense of who?

Unless we trade either IT or Bledsoe, I can't see who gets less minutes.

He's been averaging 20 minutes a game. It's less than the 28 he got last season, but I don't think that's hindering him. He had an off game so Hornacek sat him. I think people are going overboard on this. But, if we really want to get him more minutes, I say sit Tolliver completely. Run a 9 man rotation with PJ/Marcus playing some 4 in small ball lineups against bench bigs.

I think an argument can be made that the team would be better if they rid themselves of him entirely. He is a pure gunner, nothing more. When he is hot he can do a lot of damage offensively, but when he isn't hot he is a detriment all over the court. Tonight he was a flat out disaster in his few minutes. 0-6, 3 fouls and a turnover.
He is shooting 39% on the season and is the worst defensive player of our guards (that includes Thomas). He is also the worst passer and of our rotation players only Thomas hauls in less boards.
This is a ball movement team that is struggling dearly with ball movement, there is no greater ball hog on the roster than Green, who constantly takes idiotic shots and wastes plays. It might look appealing to the eye because he can make for flashy highlights but right now he is a false cure to our woes. Other guys are never going to get sorted out with Green out there chucking every time he touches the ball. If we want to fix what is wrong with the offense then Gerald Green needs to be reeled in or removed all-together.
Last year he was a ball hog, but still did a much better job of moving off the ball and shooting, mostly, what the defense gave to him. This year he seems to think he is a mix of Kobe Bryant and a machine gun.

If you compare stats for Gerald Green on and off the court for the defensive end, you will notice that opponents data for FG%, 3PT%, AST are all lower with Green ON the court.
Just saying...
I actually think Green has been doing a great defensive job. My one and only critique on him is really his shot selection/dumb decision making.

One more thing: The Suns are not a ball-moving team since the last season. Keep reading that, and it´s just not true. We ranked last in assists per game last year, if I´m not mistaken.
Suns have slashers and lots of iso, and lots of fastbreaks coming from good scrappy defense. But ball moving on half-court, that´s just not the way this team runs.
On the minutes for Green, I believe we will never play fixed minutes for any position. Whoever is doing the job, stays on court. That means Green can play 6 min on a bad night, 30ish on a good one.

Here's a good argument not to resign Green. As stated before he is an offensive gunner who is streaky and stops ball movement. Thanks to his opportunity with the Suns to showcase his skills last and this season he will be looking for a sizable contract that we don't need to pay since Warren fills the same need for much cheaper and with a potentially higher ceiling. Goran will get extended this summer so I don't see the Suns management killing our cap because we have to keep Green. It's Frye 2.0 only worse due to our swingman logjam.

I think if one of the guards has to go it would be IT. I love the guy, but having the extra starting quality guard is wrecking with others knowing their roles. People do best when they know what their role is what the expectations are night in and night out. It's true in business, its true in basketball. I think Green was more efficient last year because he knew his role. Green typically misses a few early and gets hot late. If you take away the time that he would normally be hitting those balls late then it will take away from his overall FG%. It's a theory...
I think moving out IT, plus several others could help clear up some needed space, and end up being addition by subtraction in some areas. I actually think we should keep Green, I think, unless there is a perfect situation that comes along.

The DEN game serves as example a in how the rotations and expectations for the team would be trading out IT. Gerald Green got his touches and converted at a high rate. Not saying he will continue doing what he did against DEN, but I think his consistency will go up.

I tend to wonder about the future of the young dudes. If we dont intend to trade, one of Bled, I.t. Green Goran, then what does that say for the future of Archie, Tyler, or even Zoran. If we intended to trade one of the young guys you think we would be trying to feature one and give him minutes.... we really haven't. So with the fact that even Thomas being out the last two games didnt mean playing time for any of them (the blow out made them play, doesn't count), would tend to keep you thinking one of the vets are the option for the trade, but who goes.
I actually think the Suns want to find a way to keep and pay Green.... just seems to have grown here and wants to be here. Thomas too seems to love the system and has already been outplaying his contract, both are all smiles when playing having fun and play with such passion. All make me think Bled is a trade chip. I think we retained him to not let an asset escape, and wouldnt be surprised if he and the Orginazation didnt go into the contract under the guise of a possible December trade to get him more where he wanted to be.

Like we don't have enough guards as is
Of course we'd trade IT for big man help, but when Telfair played for us he was a very pesky defender. Ideal competition for Ennis battling for the backup PG spot. Obviously he wont play alot of minutes.
