I am a Celtic fan that comes in peace.

It has been rumored that Isaiah Thomas may be available. The Celtics could easily match salaries with one of 3 expiring contracts - Brandon Bass, Tyshon Prince, or Marcus Thornton. And the Celtics could send a #1 pick. The devil is in the details regarding which pick. Would a non-premium first be enough (ala Clippers pick this year or Cavs pick next year)? Please advise.

Yea I think Bass + Clippers first rd pick should be enough.

I'll take a delayed first, please. We need a break from all the rookies, but picks is picks. Give us back one of the seconds we sent you for Wright, because of the time-value-of-draft-picks? That's a thing, believe me.

How about the Sixers 2015 and 2016 second round picks (Celtics own)? No guaranteed contracts yet high seconds.

Boston makes total sense for IT. First, I think they were interested in him in the offseason. Secondly, they have two good defensive guards, so an offensive one makes sense. And of course they got rid of the vet guard in Rondo. And then, lastly, of course McD and Ainge have a relationship and have already traded once, so I think they could probably come together easier on an agreement that makes sense for both parties.

I guess both Olynyk and Sullinger are off the table?

Olynyk and Sullinger are off the table unless the trade is expanded significantly. This is actually a very simple trade. And no, you are not exchanging Plumble for Zellar either.

Go look at the picks Boston possesses. If it comes down to picks, and you don't need a premium pick, there are lots to choose from. Off the table would be the Celtics own 1sts or the Brooklyn picks that Boston has.

Nonsense. We just traded two high seconds to the Celtics for the Brandan Wright rental (no doubt in an effort to give this roster no excuses not to make a push). You think we'll trade them IT to get back those very same assets? Look, we're flooded with young talent and picks coming in, I'm sure we're not eager to take on second rounders. I would have traded IT for Brandan Wright as well. But I think the Sixers picks will be better than the TWolves ones anyway. One of them is this year and we know it will probably be 33 or 34. Next year's is unlikely to be much better.

TWolves ones are 2016 and 2017. and they will probably be quite a bit better than the Sixers...probably closer to picks in the 40s.

To me I don't really care what we get back as long as it's not long term money that doesn't add value. Of course I'd rather have the first rounder.

So you'd rather just keep Thomas if the only deal out there on the table is Thornton (expiring) and two Philly seconds?

I agree I think we have enough picks, but they don't really hurt, and you can always (probably) trade them for future picks.

But I would rather we had never signed him in the first place, so getting anything for him is just a bonus in my book.

I called a trade to happen between our teams as soon as we gifted Rondo to the Mavs and immediately punted Wright to you, when we have a legitimate need for Wrights skill set on our roster.

We had the assets to do something bigger then, but I guess both sides (or one) decided to evaluate things until the deadline. My money is on Dragic going to the Cs. Danny can overpay and you won't be haunted by him going to the Rockets or LA.

One a side note, while I'd rather have IT, wouldn't the basketball gods curse the league or something if Thomas were a Celtic? It's just not right...

Either way, Thornton could help offset the missing offense from either player, and any one of this years clips, or next years Mavs or Cleveland pick can be had. But wait, there's more! We have like 10 future second rounders too!

It will be an interesting deadline for both teams either way.

Yes but note that Sully is basically our best player right now so most Cs fans will overvalue him.

You bring up an interesting scenario though because at some point the Cs need to make a decision between paying Sully and eventually Olynyk. While there is room for both now, nudging Sully to you could be possible.
