Bucks fans opinions on Brandon Knight

Post#1 » by Revived » Thu Feb 19, 2015 11:02 pm

Much like how Kings fans loved IT's departurue from Sacramento and complained about his hero ball/iso/selifshness etc, vast majority of Bucks fans are loving Knight's departure from Milwaukke as well. They also think he will cost quite a bit this summer and is not worth it.

Here's some of the posts from their trade thread (the title itself made me cringe):

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1373595#start_here

Craig_Hodges wrote:I can't believe we're not paying Knight and acquired 3 rookie contracts with all the restricted leverage in the process. I like the Investment Banker thought process. Let someone else pay up for the undersized, yet productive 2 guard and acquire 3 quality, yet unproven assets in return.

Stunned is a great word. This is truly a 180 degree turn from the front office dealings of the last 10 years.

BobbyLight wrote:Anyone think this is an odd trade for PHX? I don't get their love affair with having a bunch of scoring point guards.

Maybe Bledsoe is a better passer than I know.

Nebula1 wrote:Man I LOVE this deal for Milwaukee. I actually like MCW and have always desired Ennis to be a Buck.

Plus no paying Knight... I think this is a really great deal for the Bucks.

Matches Malone wrote:Also we got rid of Shaqn a fools lifetime achiever in Knight lol.

Sherman Douglas wrote:I can't believe anyone dislikes this trade. We just avoided Brandon Knight as our point guard of the future. Who gives a **** what we got back?

Dcebucks11 wrote:If mcw can pass i like him better than knight already. Still not a fan.. Hope he proves me wrong but hey the bucks aren't paying knight this summer :)

Ron Swanson wrote:Even if MCW is poop, Plumlee and Ennis are two assets worth forfeiting the rights to overpay Brandon Knight in the offseason.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Ennis ends up the best player in this deal.

I also specifically asked Bucks fans in a seperate thread for their thoughts on Knight and here it is:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1373651#start_here

I know fans aren't ever objective but these are people who watched him every game so says something. Now Knight might be different playing SG for us as opposed to PG like he did for the Bucks but still, I wonder if a player with many of the same flaws as IT/Goran/Bledsoe in terms of wanting the ball, making teammates worse, terrible passer etc will be worth paying top $$ for in the summer.

On the plus side, we got an upgrade defensively.

If this was a trade without the LAL pick then I would be neutral on it or maybe even liked it but the fact that we got yet another undersized 2 guard who is going to be a free agent while giving up the LAL pick is just...eh.

Based on the comments from Bucks fans, looks like Kidd wasn't even planning on matching any offers for Knight in the summer so we could have maybe got him for free.

Oh well.

Oddly, the Bucks — perhaps the NBA’s most surprising success story this season — played better as a team when Knight was on the bench this season, according Basketball Reference’s on-off data. With Knight off the court, Milwaukee scored at a rate of 107.7 points per 100 possessions, up from 103.2 with him on the court. The team’s defense also improved with Knight off the court, as it allowed 103.5 points per 100 possessions with Knight on the court and 99.3 with him off of it.

they would not have let him walk for free, cmon no way.

I agree I dont like him as a player, and now we will get stuck with him cause we are going to over pay him most likley.

Jeez screw me for having an opinion. I'm just telling you what Bucks fans are saying.

If you don't like it then don't click on the thread or better yet, put me on ignore.

Judging by that trade thread, there are other posters who dislike this trade more than just me. Why don't you go attack them too?

This forum LOVES stats, so what's wrong with putting Knight's up?

I think he has potential to be a great combo guard. I think he can put up similar stats to Dragic last year when Bledsoe was healthy. Play the 2 with Eric and the 1 with the bench mob. It might not be as efficient right away but I think he also brings much more on the defensive end.

I agree with SF88 about Knights upcoming free agency this summer because it just puts us back in the Dragic boat again. I'm all for overpaying for the right piece just not for more smallish guards. Honestly I would have rather kept Ennis instead of having Knight; no ego and no free agency money issues.

That being said it isn't a perfect world and sometimes you can only do so much. At least we swapped IT, Dragon & Ennis for Knight clearing up our PG glut instantly. We also moved an unhappy unproductive Plumlee and got some nice future picks from Miami.
I don't know about you guys but now I feel like I can enjoy watching the Suns again without the trade specter looming over our players heads. We also got Clevelands pick along with our first next year so that will be fun to watch; we lost the Laker pick but honestly I think they will continue to tank so it will remain protected.

I was quoted above and let me add he should work well with Bledsoe. He's just better off the ball but can still get buckets and is a good shooter. I think you got a nice player and will use him better than Milwaukee. He's just not much of a point but is a good scorer.

He's improved, a slightly above average "point" guard. His overall FG% is less than desirable for his position. His turnover to assist ratio for a guard is about the same as Bledsoe's. Would rather just not have him at all and just give the minutes to a more traditional two like Goodwin and/or Bullock since we're initiating rebuild attempt #2 anyways.

Making my one allowed hindsight comment of the year: I would prefer a Dragic/Green backcourt than Bledsoe/Knight. But hopefully I'm wrong.

Sorry guys, he's just not a guy you can have on ball. Convince him he's an off ball scorer and you might have something but on ball he misses everything going on and can't drive without watching his dribble.

Knight is a good basketball player but was just in a bad fit. Hes a score first PG and cant run an offense which is not what the Bucks need with good shooters like Dudley and Middleton and Giannis (and eventually Parker) as the cornerstone players. Thats why hes not well liked on their board as a point guard and wouldn't have been a good investment since hes going to get at least 10+ million. But hes good off the ball. Hes a very good shooter, athletic, and he works hard, good guy too I wish him the best in PHX except when they play them twice a year. Interested to see him and Bledsoe together, as long as he isnt handling the ball all the time I think itll be a better fit with PHX.

All i want to say is that the deal could be really good for Suns if you guys play him right.
IF you play him as SG off ball type of guy then you got a good shooting scorer that got good feet and can penetrate.
If you put him as PG then enjoy your suffering of 20 seconds wasted dribbling nightmare offense with 0 court vision and bad passing...

I think this trade is a win win for both Bucks and Sun as we literally do not such type of a player and if you guys play him properly then he can surely help you.

Well considering Dragic's role was as the off-ball guard, and his old role will be going Knight now, those are all very good signs as far as offensive roles go.

Hopefully he plays better D than Dragic

He'll be mostly playing off the ball I'd assume. Thanks, Bucks fans.

Keep in mind there is a lot of residual dislike from Knights play under Larry Drews system where he had perma-green light on top of his score first instincts.

The last few weeks he was demonstrating much better passing and ball movement, and it's not a surprise the team was playing at maybe it's highest level all season.

But no doubt, if he wants to be a true PG it's going to be something he has to focus on year after year. For now, he is a great scoring guard, ideally paired with a PG that can guard the SG. His spot up shooting is very good, and he moves off the ball fairly well.

He is very very poor leading a fast break. You may want to put down anything you may throw at your TV if you see him on the break.

I don't actually see as much bad news as you see.

Major hurdle is that it sounds like the dude thinks he's a point guard when he's actually a horrific point guard, and he's a good shooting guard even though he doesn't like playing shooting guard.

The challenge, then, is to convince him to embrace the role in which he excels. If he can do that, then we've actually found a very good complement to Bledsoe. If not, well, we have another problem.

Plus the fact that they say he's a good citizen is important to me.

Knight is a hard working, quality young player. He might not be a point guard, but he improved his play for the Bucks this year and he was a large contributor to their success. Lock him up at a reasonable rate and you will have done well. I hope Knight and Bledsoe do well together.

Sorry for your Diva Dragic. Screwed your leverage.

It's cool. Looking forward to the all Kentucky backcourt! Good luck with your haul as well. I hope Ennis pans out. We really don't know enough about him to give any scouting reports. Plumlee used to be a quality big but took a step back this year. Maybe a change of scenery will help?

Yep, great constructive feedback from Bucks fans - class bunch with some real insight there.

I think Knight will be fine if he buys into 'Bledsoe is our PG, you are our SG' mentality.

All things being said, Knight fits the Ben Gordon/Jason Terry mold of a bench PG/SG, but not on this team or at his current age.

He and Bledsoe went to Kentucky, so they will be familiar with each other's game I'm sure - don't KU all play/practice together in the offseason?

Return to Phoenix Suns
