Keep the team or blow it up?

When McD took over the team he obviously tried to tank by trading most of veterans for picks. Of course Suns can't do anything right, even losing so they did surprisingly good.
Looking how stacked the Western Conference is mayby it's time to try it again. Trade Bled or Knight and Morris twins for draft picks, give TJ and Archie big minutes and go super young (with Wright as veteran leadership)?
Or keep the team, try to compete and look for a star available with hope of doing what Houston did?

The problem with these types of questions is you don't know what kind of assets you could get with these guys. It really all depends on that. I wouldn't be opposed to anything necessarily, though I really like Warren, and unless you could get a better young center or really high pick this year (which you couldn't), I'd rather keep Len. Outside of that, I'm game to listen to anything. Obviously even Warren would be on the table in the right deal.

But if all those guys would only fetch late firsts, I don't know if it is worth it.

Problem is we are in a very tough spot. The young teams have rosters with better young talent and probably guys with higher upside, and the teams ahead of us are unlikely to fall off any time soon...and that is 9 teams. Dallas might fall off somewhat soon, but that's about it.

I'd take our situation over the Kings and Lakers and that's about it in the west.

Unless we can get a good deal, we have to probably roll with this young team and hope it has as much upside as McD seems to think. I wouldn't mind trading the twins...I'm sure Kieff has quite a bit of value. I don't know what team would want Bledsoe or Knight though and would give up much for them since the league is full of point guards. The Knicks might want one of them, but I doubt they'd trade this year's pick (whoever they pick) for one of them, and I don't think they have one in 2016 or 2018 and can't trade the one in between.

I would hate it if Len, TJ or Archie would be traded. Mayby if it's for some really big name like Cousins but it would be tough loss anyway.
Candidates for trade are Bledsoe/Knight and Morris twins. I'm not desperated to get rid of them and wouldn't trade them without good return. But if they can get top3 pick I would do this without thinking. Mayby even for a bit lower pick if there is potencial star available.
Bledsoe is very good player but if he's your best player then it's not good. Only strong team that don't have a star are Hawks but they have experienced players with hight iq and a great coach. Suns can't copy that.
West is so stacked that there's no chances Suns will make the playoffs next year. Could they copy Houston and get player of Harden level by trade? It's doubtfull, rarely stars or potential stars are available for trade. And there is a risk that it would be so costly that Suns would be left with single star and nothing but bad contracts.
All great teams always started with drafting a star (then they could add another stars by trades of free agency but it always started with that drafted player). Mayby there isn't any star player in this year draft but if there is Suns should do everything to get him. I wouldn't mind tanking if this means lots of minutes for Archie and TJ. Wright could hopefully provide veteran leadership.
And personally I just prefer teams builded by draft than builded by trades. I dream of HOF player drafted by Suns that would stay with the team whole career like Dirk with Mavs or Duncan with Spurs. Is this too much?

Pick D`Angelo Russell, that kid can be a new Harden, resign Knight, take Turner with the 13th pick, develop Len, Warren and Goodwin and go from there.

The question probably is: does Sarver want to blow it up? Because probably with this level of expending and this level of income, he is more than happy. If he needs to risk, add salaries, etc, he will probably end up losing money.

In my opinion: YES, I would blow it up.
I would keep Warren, Goodwin and Len. I would keep Wright and Tucker for the bench.
Then we would be needing starters as a PG and a PF.
Then a PG, a SG and a C for the bench.

The problem is that we usually are no good at chosing ypung players, os the ones that we select are far from being good (Ennis for Clarkson). If we rebuild through the dratf we could go back to this starting point in no time. We need to sign at least one player that is about to reach his prime and will command a good salary: Harris, foe example (although he is a SF).

Then some teams have many players in the same position and they will not be able to retain all.
Memphis has (if they desire so) to retain Randolph, Gasol and Koufos. NO has to retain Asik and Ajica. Both could be good fits to anchor our C position and defense.
Teletovic is finishing his contract.
So Calathes, interesting bench PG.
Brandon Bass, interesting physical PF with the Celtics also finishes his contract.
Darrell Arthur with the Nuggets finishes contract. Also Ed Davis with the Lakers. Also Thomas Robinson.
Nick Young is being offered.

2011, 2007, 2003, 1999 rosters had about 60 players in total.

Only 4 of them made multiple rosters (everyone else gone within 4 years, the 4 players were All-Stars).

I'd be interested excluding all-stars, what % of nba players are on their team 4 years later. I think it'd be maybe 10% at most.

So blowing it up happens anyway history suggests.

The thing is that we have to trade some of our valuable players to get that star. We are not getting an star in FA. If we want, for example,someone like Cousins, we will need to trade Bledsoe and MoBros at least, so it's near impossible to have an star and this exact team next year.

I want to trade all of our players except Warren, Len, Archie and our two veteran good bench players in Brandan Wright and Tucker. That is all.

At this point I just don't know. I don't see us being able to turn Bledsoe into a top three pick, and with how down so much of our fan base is down on the Morris brothers, I could only see a team willing to crush us in a deal, and that doesn't seem to be McD style.

We just recently traded 1/3 of our team, three more would be over half of this season squad traded in like four months. Pretty crazy!

Lastly, the jury is still out on all our young players. Len is just as inconsistent as our regulars, which most everyone dislikes, and he can't stay healthy. And when he does, he often takes himself out of the game with fouls. Strange, but he didn't play as well as Plumlee from the start of last year, and look how he turned out. Archie has good games, and bad games. That last game against the Clips, he did all the same turnover mistakes that everyone hates from Bledsoe, and although his shot keeps developing, I'm still more concerned that he has the same IQ as Bledsoe.

Warren has had some great games as too, but some crap ones as well. If his shot isn't falling, or guys keep him from moving well without the ball (like actually guarding him), he is just ok. If these guys get regular rotational minutes, I don't think it will take long for scouting tape will make it hard for them, just like it did Plumlee. But, I really hope I'm wrong, and these guys can step up on a consistent basis.

Trade Morrii ASAP. If we have to package a pick with them to get something of value, do it. A good defensive rebounding PF would be ideal.

I would not keep both Bledsoe and Knight. Decide who has the more upside over the next 3-4 years and trade the other (for Knight, it would be a sign and trade).

Keep Wright. He is consistently and quietly one of the league's most efficient players. We just need some fresh coaching ideas to utilize him better.

Keep Len, Archie and Warren. Len and TJ seem very likely to be very good NBA players in the next few years. Archie is a little shaky but I think he has the tools to reach a high level.

Plus after the Harden trade, I think other GMs will be lot more careful now.

At this point, we're better of giving Warren, Len, Goodwin, Bledsoe & Knight (if both return) and whichever rookie we get the bulk of the minutes for next season. Regardless of whether we win or lose, we'll have something to watch for in young guys with high ceiling playing alot.

And if we lose, we'll at least have a good draft pick in next year's draft to get a potential star.

Maybe not a super star but a star (all star type player) should be able to be had in FA.

Ryan McDonough has made out like a bandit in nearly all his trades so far. I will not be surprised if a few years from now the Miami Heat are going to say to themselves on draft night "I cannot believe we traded those picks for Goran Dragic!" Actually they might already be saying it. Especially if Dragic leaves. Anyway, I expect the Suns to have a totally different roster next year built around more cerebral players who are better shooters. Outside of that, the Suns most glaring need is a power forward who can rebound and play defense. Listening to the McDonough on the radio this week and last week, I get the feeling he wants to trade the Morris brothers and some other players on his way towards rebuilding the team.
