Re: Devin Booker
I guess the numbers say we should trade Booker now. I am sure we can use him to get Mayo or someone.

The first part of this article covers Booker vs. Wiggins and how a majority of GMs around the league would take Booker. Pretty cool

In first 3 games of preseason Booker had 5, 5 and 4 assists. It's nice he is sharing the ball more and trying to be more complete player.

Re: Devin Booker
Here’s how it would work: A five-year extension would kick in starting with the 2019-20 season (Phoenix would pick up its team option on Booker for the 2018-19 season).
Booker’s salary could be 25 percent of the salary cap, which is projected to be $108 million in 2019-20. (Booker could earn 30 percent of the cap if he makes an All-NBA team or is named Defensive Player of the Year.)
His first-year salary, using the 25 percent benchmark, would be $27 million. Assuming he receives the maximum eight percent raise each year based on the first-year salary, the five-year deal would be worth $156.6 million.
The annual salaries:
2019-20: $27 million
2020-21: $29.16 million
2021-22: $31.320 million
2022-23: $33.480 million
2023-24: $35.640 million
Asked about a possible extension for Booker, Managing General Partner Robert Sarver said, “I’m not going to answer that.” But, he added, “Devin is working on his game and he’s determined to take his game to the next level. I would love to be in a position to do that.”
Booker, who recently said one of the reasons he admires Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant is that they played their entire career with one team – with the exception of Jordan’s two-year stint with Washington – said he would love to sign an extension if offered next summer.
"I've been treated right from the day I was drafted, even when I was a rookie and didn't play much," he said. "The city of Phoenix took me in with open arms and made me a part of their family. I've learned the history and traditions of the team. I know how much the city cares about the franchise and that means a lot to me, playing somewhere where people actually care about the franchise.
"I love it here, I bought a house here and I intend to be here for a long time."

Re: Devin Booker
We can match any 4 year deal anyway.
I like Sarver being conservative in this situation.

Yeah, I like Sarver's answer too. But IF Booker improves this season, we need to make the five year extension because is better for both sides.
Those 4 years deals signed in RFA usually have a PO in the last season...so that contract could be a three years contract when with the early max extension you can sign the player for five seasons without team or player options.

Re: Devin Booker
Reading the details of that max 5 year contract and then reading an article on azcentral and coming across...
leaves me shaking my head about the ridiculousness of nba contracts these days.

Then, just past midnight July 1 assistant coach Paul Westphal phoned free-agent forward Tom Chambers, who was coming off a season in which he averaged 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Less than 24 hours later Chambers had agreed to a five-year, $9 million deal, becoming the first unrestricted free agent in NBA history to change teams.

Don't mention the 2015 draft thread, Kaminsky was by far the favoured pick which I never understood except he was on tv alot.

I liked the idea of getting Kaminsky at #13 two years ago, luckily he was not available and we got Booker.
Comparing both at this point is ridiculous IMO. Booker is way younger and he has improved like crazy.

God that thread is infuriating. I typed out a long response but decided against it.

Yes, it's not worth it. I got pointed to it a couple days ago and almost referred to it here but I thought it better if we just ignore it. Some of the later posts are a bit ridiculous when it mentioned Crawford, Lou Williams and Brandon Jennings as comps.

I doubt Wisconsin was on tv as much as Kentucky, but Kaminsky was just far more established and was the best player on the team that knocked out undefeated Kentucky in the tourney, where Booker was a reserve.
But if you look at Kaminsky's freshman year, it was awful. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/frank-kaminsky-1.html
Kaminsky was just a hot name that year. Typical really good 4 year college player when he was an upperclassmen that goes top 10.

Re: Devin Booker
Different positions and all but right now Booker is a better defender than KAT and Jokic. I'm really impressed with his work on the defensive end this year. Hopefully he can do it whole season.

Showing signs he can ultimately be a 25-5-5 guy.
Out of all current players to do that they've all been top 3 in MVP voting.

Re: Devin Booker
I really like the Booker, Jackson and Warren perimeter setup.
Just like the Bulls Dysnasty second 3-peat team, Ron Harper two way player 6'6 tall, Jordan obvious GOAT 6'6 and Pippen 6'7.... They could switch to any position barring center and big power forwards. The warriors currently run something similar with Klay, Durant, Iguadala, Green and Livingston... Neck McCaw is there too... Any three of them can play together and just cover most of the opposing team's players on the court.
Thing is... Booker is still a bad defender, although he's trying, Warren has shown he can be pesky but that was almost a year ago... That leaves Josh as the only real capable defender....
In any case I would push for that setup. Booker and Josh as ball handlers and Warren as the slasher... Defensively all can switch and cover enough....
