NBA Changes Playoff Seeding

The NBA will now seed playoff teams solely by their record, throwing out the top-four protection for teams who win their divisions.

Conferences still stand, though.

Thank God. That was stupid to ever have that way. It definitely made for some unfair early matchups at times, like in 2006 and this past year. Funny thing is though, both years the team that ended up losing the unfair early matchup was the Spurs, in super competitive series against the Mavs and Clips, both of which could have gone either way in the final game.

Well, at least it's progress... they really need to get rid of the conferences though.

Good move by the NBA.

Also, agreed that conferences probably aren't going away.

Conference realignment would be nice though. It would be nice to see Seattle and KC get teams in the west and have Memphis and New Orleans go to the East. That would help with balance too.

I used to also mention Minnesota as a possibility since they have natural rivalries with Chicago and Detroit, but Memphis and New Orleans might make more sense now.
