Tanking at the right time?
This season is a waste. The smart thing to do is to tank and tank hard.
I know quite a few here think we should have been tanking for the past 3 years, but did we really miss out of anything?
In the 2013 Draft:
We take Len @ 5
Len hasn't been great, but he has shown flashes and I still think he will be a solid starting center if he can stay healthy. No one in that draft is looking like a superstar that we missed on. I might rather have Giannis, Adams, McCollum, or Noel, but it's such a crap shoot and the development of the players is still far from over. I'd take Len over all of the guys selected before him (Bennett, Oladipo, Porter, Zeller). Of those guys, Oladipo is the only one who we might rather have.'
In the 2014 NBA Draft:
We take TJ @ 14
TJ is looking like the absolute steal of the draft. Wiggins and Parker were the top prize all year long. Parker suffered the ACL injury and has not looked great since returning. Wiggins looks good but he may not be the next Lebron. The rest of the hyped up picks have all had injuries of been pretty god awful. Julius Randle looks terrible. Embiid has yet to play an NBA game. I'd rather have TJ over Gordon, Smart, or even LaVine.
In the 2015 NBA draft:
We take Booker @ 13
The ROY is going to be either KAT, Okafor, or Porzingis. Stanley, Winslow, and Kaminsky have all played well at times, but I'd take Booker over all of them. Getting KAT, Okafor, or Porzingis would have been nice, but I think Booker can become a perennial allstar. He's the perfect 2 guard.
All in all, we did OK the last 3 years. I think we drafted 3 starters with 2 of them having all star potential. The only superstars I see are Wiggins, KAT, Okafor, and Porzingis.
If we tank from here on out to get a shot at the top guys in the 2016 and 2017 NBA draft, I don't think we will kick ourselves for not tanking earlier.

Re: Tanking at the right time?
More like the worst, last year was the perfect time to start it up IMO,.KAT was the closest thing to a flawless big coming out and he could have been our savior. I hope we keep at it a cauz I don't see this draft class yielding a generational talent or even a franchise player. Even the creme of the crop project to be only All-Star sidekicks with intriguing skill sets but are raw and won't have immediate impact. The Bendars, Skals and even Ingrams still need to fill out their frames and it may take a while until they achieve NBA ready bodies

Simmons and Ingram are special talents. Raw but special. The NHL draft also had two studs at the top and the Coyotes dropped to #3. Hopefully we can avoid that.
I have a feeling McD knows this and doesn't seem to be making changes despite hitting rock bottom as a franchise. That's a man with vision.

Tank for the highest possible pick. Even if we don't purposely tank because of the makeup and injuries to our current roster we're going to lose a lot anyway.
If we end up with Simmons or Ingram then I think we could one day look at this as a successful season for the future of our franchise. Especially if other badly needed changes are implemented but with Sarver at the helm that remains to be seen.

Re: Tanking at the right time?
Drafting a superstar is an anomoly. By definition there are 10 top 10 picks every year and only maybe 1 new superstar enter the league every couple of years.
So as crap as that sound, every championship team I've researched (back to the 70s) has had this.

Tanking is an intentional act
I don't think we have much choice or input in this matter.

All season long it's gonna be why dd we win that game ... and lots of complaining about ruining the tank. Unless we go 0-45.

Yeah, we have threads like this advocating tank, then many of the same people in game threads get livid when we lose. I love it.
I also love the quick reactions.
Warren and Len are quiet for a while "TRADE EVERYONE BUT BOOKER"!
Warren has a great game "TRADE EVERYONE BUT WARREN AND BOOKER"!
Len has a great game, add him to the above statement, then he hurts his hand for a few game and he now "Len sucks!"

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. Our young guns are going to have bad games; we have to look at the big picture, and I shows we've done alright. I think that can be loosely viewed by looking at all three picks, and those drafted within 5 picks on either side of who we picked and determine in what position would you rank the player we took.
For example, for 2013, if we look at the top 10 picks (since Len was pick 5), and determine how he breaks out of those top 10. If it was reshuffled by which of the 10 are the best down to the worst. I think it's safe to say that Len would rank no worse than 5th, maybe 6th, but it's hard to say since Chandler's eating more of his minutes this season. And yes, of course there are other better players than Len from that draft, but nobody was taking Gobert in the top 10.
Then look at Warren and do the same exercise, and Booker as well. Overall you have to think based on the available players, McD did well overall.
Now, if we could work on his FA decisions, we'd be golden, since he appears to be a decent 'drafter' and 'trader', but oof...those FAs...

TRADE ALL THE MODS BUT KERSSED AND LILFISH!

Ha.
Trading the young guys now doesn't make sense unless we're upgrading WITH young players who are better. We don't know what these three in particular are yet so there's no point trading them while their value is low as others have said...

I'm sure you're not alone on that one.

I don't know, our mods are still young and have time to grow. I think it'd be too early to give up on them now. ; )

Only because our mods are young that don't mean they will be stars some day like some people here thinks. Looks at the other's teams boards. They have young mods with better potential that our. I don't consider any of our mods untoutchable.
