Lottery Prediction Competition
Posted: Wed May 18, 2016 5:29 am
I've got a fun game idea. It's really simple: predict the lottery.
+2 points for naming the correct player in the correct spot
+1 point for naming a lottery player 1 spot away from where he is actually picked
+0.5 points for naming a lottery player 2 spots away from where is actually picked
Tiebreaker: Name the correct Suns pick.
Tiebreaker 2: Name the correct 14th pick (as this will be most difficult to do).
Tiebreaker 3: Correct 13th pick
and so on...
If there is a trade, ignore it. If Brandon Ingram gets picked 2nd and you called it, but the Lakers trade the pick at any time, you still get 2 pts.
Max pts: 28
Competition ends 5 minutes before the start of the draft. You may edit your mock draft until then.
I'll start (Mock Draft v1)
1 Philadelphia - Ben Simmons
Philly needs a sure thing. Not only does Ben remind me a little of Dr. J, but the talent level is what they need.
2 LA Lakers - Brandon Ingram
Can't really pass on him.....unless they pull a fast one and go for Buddy, but I doubt it. KISS.
3 Boston - Buddy Hield
possible rookie of the year favorite, he has an NBA ready offensive game. too hard to turn down. none of the other prospects really fit with their team. easier to find a destination for A Bradley
4 Phoenix - Henry Ellenson (I've been thinking about it, and I have to say that Ellenson's skill set is freaky. Reminds me a lot of Kevin Love.....or maybe Chris Webber. I don't think Bender is the better prospect.)
5 Minnesota - Kris Dunn
Reminds me of vintage Derrick Rose. Theyve got something special in the works. To me, Dunn gives them an athletic freakshow & is this year's Damian Lillard
6 New Orleans - Jamal Murray
Talent. Skill. Health is nice, too. Murray gives them a guy they can nurture, and if he's ready to start, AD gets some much needed help. If not, worst case scenario is OJ Mayo/Jerryd Bayless. Either way, they don't need a project like Bender. They need a healthy second scorer. Murray is their best Chance of getting that.
7 Denver - Dragan Bender
Denver, on the other hand, can invest in a project. Could be really interesting next to NurkJokic
8 Sacramento - Furkan Korkmaz
Why oh why does Furkan remind me of Kobe? He has about a million different ways of getting open, that's why. I'm extremely impressed, and I think Sacramento is going to get the steal of the draft
9 Toronto - Marquese Chriss
You can see the potential. Toronto has never been totally safe at the 4. Chriss gives them the athleticism and finishing ability they don't have in the frontcourt. His other skills can be developed. Already showing flashes of offensive wherewithal. Reminds me of.....young Amir Johnson? or maybe Myles Turner?
10 Milwaukee - Denzel Valentine
Another young long guy, one who could potentially start long term at point? Almost a no brainer
11 Orlando - Jaylen Brown
Far from a no brainer, but Orlando goes for upside here. Could be Ulis if they decided to bail on Payton, but it doesn't seem like that's happening
12 Utah - Tyler Ulis
A point guard. Not only that, but he can play, which is always nice. Is he the next Isaiah Thomas? Good chance IMO
13 Phoenix - Domantas Sabonis
Skill. Athleticism. Solid defensive footwork.....good footwork in general. I have a strong feeling we trade this pick, but if not, Sabonis might be best player available and best fit for need.
14 Chicago - Deyonta Davis
This guy has scary potential. Feels like a stash and nurture/Hassan Whiteside make sure he doesn't fall off the tracks job, but theres all star potential here
(note to self: score and post the results from the previous competition!)
