Marquese Chriss News, Discussion and Highlights (New Poll)

Post#1 » by Damkac » Fri Jun 24, 2016 6:11 am

Had to go sleep after Suns drafted Bender and such a suprise :o I'm loving it. Wonder if that's why McD wanted Bogdan to come next season. It's sad we lost him but Suns really don't need another guard.
And of course Suns added another Kentucky guard  He should train with Bledsoe a lot to get some muscles.

Summer League will be epic :D

I know you were really high on Bender..were you high on Chriss also?

If Bender can't play the 3, then someone would become a role player off of the bench. I can't see Chriss or Bender banging with Cousins for four quarters at center. In addition, one would have to change his body type too much and that could take away from what makes him special.

Chriss is going to grow to 7' and put on 20 pounds of muscle. It is a known fact that when you pack on mass, you sacrifice flexibility, but he's still gonna be a beast. /purple font

It's amazing how much more positive I feel about our team moving forward compared to this time last year.

He's definitely grown since his senior year in HS. I wouldn't be surprised if he looks like AD in a couple years minus the freakish arms.

Careful. All of your positive vibes is gonna jinx it man. Don't let yourself get too high/low. Gonna invite bad karma.

Speaking of great questions....how about the antithesis of great questions? 910AM had Chris on the radio last night around 7:30 last night and all he could ask him was "what about the heat? Are you going to get a pool to get out of the heat? I know you like it hot, but what about 115 degrees? You better make sure your pool has easy access." Over and over he rambled on about the heat and Chriss was like that's cool, and instead of changing his questions, he continued to bring up the heat. :banghead:

bwgood77 wrote:I assume those Bender clips are in order of when they happened. I heard that once he got a lot more minutes near the end he had some very nice games..it looks like his #s steadily improved throughout the season the more he played. That was probably good experience. I'd guess playing there is probably better than experience playing in the PAC 12, but of course Chriss played far more minutes, though he needed to because he is clearly behind Bender. What is great about having Bender for Chriss, is that maybe Chriss can pick up some things from Bender. Not sure, because is IQ doesn't seem to be as high, but I guess that could be selling him short as he was somewhat new, probably didn't have the best coaching, and was playing with a wild raw PG too.

I think they will be good for each other. Booker will be good for both of them. Ulis too. Have never been this excited for summer league.

Yeah, I think Chriss has a low basketball IQ but he can be a great player if he learns some things and he develops as a finisher. I see him more like a modern C, ala Tristan Thompson but worse rebounder but better shooter. He needs to develop a better motor because Thompson is very mobile and he doesn't stop on the court.

Excited for summer league too. Right now we have four great prospects on our starting lineup:
PG Ulis
SG
SF Troy Williams
PF Bender
C Chriss

I was watching some Kevin Garnett clips last night, and I was thinking

Chriss may be rookie Kevin Garnett for all intents and purposes

He seems pretty comfortable shooting it. Despite his crazy athleticism, I feel like his first instinct is to shoot more than dunk. You'd think he would try to dunk whenever he was within 10 feet, but I feel like he doesn't dunk as much as he could

KG was a great rebounder, defender and passer, areas Chriss needs to dramatically improve on

Hey, really like what Suns did on draft night, you did great job IMO.

Two questions... do you think Suns will play Chriss along Bender. I think due to Chriss defensive inexperience, he could play SF to ease his transition, especially he is very athletic.

Second one, do you think will you try to go after wins, or force young players to develop and possibly get another high pick next year when there is plenty of PGs in draft.

I'd be thrilled to see
Bledsoe-Booker-Chriss-Bender-Len
starting games.

I think if we play them together Bender will be SF instead of Chriss. Bender is more fluid, agile than Chriss and he can handle the ball.

Sure, Watson has already talked that since Bender is quick defensively on the perimeter, can guard smaller guys and a good ball handler that he could play 3. Small ball maybe 4/5 depending on rebounding. But you could almost just ignore who is playing which position at forward and just guard whoever makes sense depending on matcup. Good interview by Watson a few pages back about how he will play them together. Sounds exciting.

I'll take a look. Just glad you are going in that direction, I think Suns could be one of the most interesting teams to watch next couple seasons. And then hopefully for you, couple of season after those too.

We absolutely won't lose on purpose, that's perfectly clear, but if you ask me, i would certainly try to be near the bottom and secure a guy like Jackson, Tatum, Fultz, Giles, Smith... that look like they're capable of resurrecting the franchise and give us something that can be called sustainable development. Although i'm super pleased with draft night outcome, it's hard for me to imagine Bender or Chriss as a future franchise player(s). This class appeared mediocre from the first day, and getting anything more than a good role player from vast majority of the prospects would be pure gold. As we witnessed many times, top tier FA's and PHX don't go in the same sentence, so our best chance to be relevant (contenders) is to draft ourselves a star(s). Playing time is a must for youngsters, especially in a context of making a decision how to approach next year's draft.

The last Chriss game I watched was his vanishing act vs ASU,left a sour tase in my mouth but didn't completley turn me off. Before that I was impressed by him holding his own vs Rabb, wasn't as easily backed down like was he was going up against Sabonis. Finished the season strong showing up some cupcakes in the NIT. If he pans out its just icing on the cake

Nice interview. He sounds like a nice kid (and he is a kid). I like that he seems to understand what he did last year and how to correct some things with effort on the glass and things like that. I have high hopes he'll put it together, if not this year than eventually.
