Welcome to the food thread! This thread is for EVERYTHING related to food. I'm a bit of a foodie so this thread is basically so I can eat vicariously through y'all. I'm sure you have some good stuff to post.

Locations

Ever been travelling? Any meals stick out to you on your journeys? Anything you tried to find when you returned home that you couldn't?

What are your goto places to have a good feed? Don't forget to post where you are in the world. We'll make a list, by location, based on all your recommendations. It could be fast food, it could be fine dining. Whatever you enjoy.

AZ recommendations:

Chou's Kitchen. (Son Of Ra). "Just what I need when wanderlust strikes. I highly recommend 'pig intestines'. Might sound gross to some but it is to die for."

Cornish Pasty (wheezy). "Cornish isn't really like any other places outside of phx (bonus points for having a nice owner)."

The Main Ingredient Alehouse (wheezy). "TMI is super simple food done incredibly well and they only play old school hip hop."

DeFalco's Deli (DirtyDez). "DeFalco's Deli on Scottsdale Rd just south of Thomas has killer pizza. They don't short you on topping and it's greasy as f*ck. Excellent sammiches and pasta as well."

Azteca Bakery (Fo-Real). "I know it's very pedestrian and not as fancy as some of the places you guys have mentioned but Azteca Bakery in downtown Phoenix on 7th Ave just north of Grand Avenue has some of the best green chili. it's like crack I've recently had to make a decision not to eat it as much as I do."

I am a bit of a pizza head. I have a great Roman style pizza joint near me. Would love to go to Naples and have a proper pizza.

I've just come out of a winter in Aus and made a heap of different soups that were really tasty. Start with the same base of root veggies and spices. Then spin it in whatever way you like with whatever ingredients you like. Leek and potato was a favorite.

I also seem to be eating tahini on everything. I can't get enough of eat. I've had some really delicious tahini ice-cream.

Sorry guys this is the first and last time I can visit this thread for a while. I'm 3 days strong on my diet and normally I only last about 3-6 hours on a diet before I break it. My two biggest weaknesses are pizza and ice cream (and cookies).
Will visit again once I lose about 20 pounds.

I agree on Chef John, he's our favorite and we've made many of his dishes. I don't have the URL in front of me but there's a young lady we're fond of whose slogan is, I think, "asian cooking at home". Her name is something like Seonyoung Longest. We've found what we believe is the perfect answer to our dining issues. We'd been eating out at least 7 meals a week for several years and besides being in a rut, we've also been packing on the pounds. Our current approach though has been working great for us and while it's not cheap by any means, it's much cheaper than what we had been doing and that's without considering the fact we are no longer tossing out groceries on a regular basis.

We have a Nutrisystem muffin for breakfast every day. We have a frozen Nutrisystem meal for dinner (Healthy Choice or whatever would work too). I chose Nutrisystem because it turns out that even though I don't care for their overall program, they have a small handful of entrees that we actually like. My wife has ravioli or pizza for dinner every night and I have 2 of their hamburgers every evening. We each follow our mid-day and evening meals with the sub 200 calorie dessert of our choice.

The lifesaver for us has been utilizing some of the Meal Kit Delivery services for our big meal (for us, that's lunch). We select a balanced meal that averages around 600 calories per serving and at no time do we feel like we're being deprived. It gives us that same thrill of going out and we've added several great recipes to our collection as a result.

Like I said, it's not the cheapest way to go but it's the first time in our lives where we've been eating fairly healthy without feeling like we're stuck on a diet. You can tailor it to Vegan, Gluten Free, Low cal or low carb, Type 2 Diabetic or whatever you choose. We use a service (services) for a month or so and then we pause them and try out the recipes we've liked to see if they hold up when we do everything from scratch. And, when the mood strikes us, we activate the accounts and do it all over again.

Where's the best all you can eat sushi in the valley?

Asking the important questions. I'd also like to know what people think the best sushi spot in general is, preferably in the North Scottsdale/Paradise Valley area.

I checked out Sumo Maya recently, pretty cool Asian/Mexican fusion place near Scottsdale and McDonald/Indian Bend, the sushi was really good too. Price point is a bit high, but their happy hour is pretty decent.

For me it's all about spicy. The spicier the better. The different types of cuisines I probably enjoy and eat the most, in order, are Thai, Mexican and Indian. I love good Chinese food too but it seems like it's harder to find high quality Chinese food. You could say the same about Mexican food when it comes to me, since I like things spicy. Much of it is just too bland for me.

Since I'm in Austin, I'll list some of the best places here.

For Thai food it's Madam Mam's, which used to be owned by a couple, but they split and now there is an identical restaurant called Sap's.

For Mexican, I really enjoy the diverse dishes at Trudy's, like their most popular dish, the stuffed avocado (stuffed with chicken, fried, and covered in a great sauce).

Their chili rellenos are good too, you can have the stuffed with anything, and they have a huge variety of sauces you can cover your entrees with.

The spiciest mexican dish I have ever had though was in Phoenix, the Hatch Chili Especial - Chicken guisado with diced green Hatch chilies, jalapeno cream cheese and green sauce covered with shredded cheese. Served in a boat with fresh tortillas.

So this is how it goes down in Korea (and now other countries which have caught on)

Step 1. Buy beer
Step 2. Call up a Korean man who sells fried chicken.
Step 3: This said man will prepare Fried Chicken in ways you never thought possible.
Step 4: Said man will deliver chicken to your house/workplace/basement etc on his motorbike
Step 5: Enjoy with beer. (Beer is a ABSOLUTE MUST when you have Fried Chicken in Korea. If you go to Korea and have fried chicken, but fail to order beer to accompany your chicken, you might as well just not eat at all.)

I can second his recommendation, but I don't think it's better than bianco. My only problem with piazza locale is that the crust can be a bit soggy.

It is tough for me to drink beer with food for whatever reason, unless it is something light like sushi. I have to either have a couple beers first or well after. I think it is a digestive thing. Like I need a carbonated beverage that gets that food broken down. It can have some alcohol, but beer while eating a big meal, especially fried food, just doesn't work for me.

One thing that has gotten popular in the states is chicken and waffles...never tried it and it doesn't make a ton of sense to me, but a lot of people love it, so they keep building new ones.
