Suns offseason preview for RealGM

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Mon Apr 10, 2017 10:56 pm

Hi all!

Our Suns offseason preview has posted for RealGM!

http://basketball.realgm.com/analysis/245576/2017-NBA-Offseason-Preview-Phoenix-Suns

Love to hear what you think. I could have made it a long love piece for Alan Williams, but decided to talk about the team as a whole.

Thanks!

Solid write up. Although many consider Brandon Knight's salary dead money ;)

I don't agree with the "resentment up and down the roster." I think the only guy on our team who may be harboring resentment is Brandon Knight, everyone else seems to be more-or-less tight-knit.

I feel like saying Chriss and Bender are redundant is similar to saying Durant and Draymond are redundant. Sure, you can say that both are hybrid 3/4 who occasionally spot at the 5, but they can fit together. Bender and Chriss have different and diverse enough skill sets that I think they'll be fine together.

I'm not sure what the narrative around management is based on. The only move that I felt was an "accelerate the timeline" move was signing Chandler in hopes of getting LaMarcus. Bledsoe/IT/Knight all were on their first contracts still, and I would consider to be rebuild moves, same with trading away the FOEs. Mirza was a 1-year deal. Dudley and Barbosa were clearly veteran presences to shepherd the youth.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

From an outsider perspective it was a good write up, but some inner workings and feelings and vibe around the team and even management all seems very positive, despite the record and season. The coach seems to have fostered a very good environment around the team.
