Mock offseason

I will just create a thread here, so if you are interested in chiming in on deals I have pending, or whatever, you can post here, but I don't want to continue to post this mock stuff in the offseason of draft threads.

So now, with the 4th pick, I took Tatum...and at 32 I took Jawun Evans, just in case we got a good deal for Bledsoe, plus I like him...if you are not familiar with him..

Oklahoma State ran a pick and roll heavy offense with 56.3% of Evans' total derived offensive possessions (which includes shots, passes, fouls drawn, and turnovers) ending as the pick and roll ball handler according to Synergy Sports Technology. He showed that he is comfortable attacking the ball screen in a variety of ways, whether by rejecting the screen to get into the lane or forcing a switch to attack a big man off the dribble. He gets into space with a creative change of pace and impressive downhill quickness to bend the defense, and he should be able to seamlessly make the transition to a NBA style offense as he led the most efficient offense in the country primarily through his pick and roll attack. - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jawun-Evans-76420/ ©DraftExpress

So between him and Ulis, being our team is young, we could allow Ulis to run it...give him a trial run, see what Evans can do (drafted in same spot at 32, and obviously very good at pick n roll).

Here is the recent offer in which we deal Bledsoe AND Knight for this..

Suns get a BKN 1st (BKN picked Swanigan) Lin, RHJ
Nets get Anunoby, Knight, Nelson
Nuggets aquire Bledsoe, #57

If you are not familiar with Swanigan, he is a high energy guy who went for 18.5, 12.5 boards, shot 54.8% from 2 and 44.7% from 3....also is 6'8 with a 7'3 wingspan.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Caleb-Swanigan-71578/

With a deal like this, it may not seem enough for Bledsoe, but dumping Knight in the process is huge, and we would get Lin to play 6th man scorer off the bench, to play with some combination of Evans, Tatum, Dudley, Swanigan, Williams, Len, Bender, etc.

Then we also get our wing defender in RHJ....so we add a wing defender, a backup experienced 6th man scoring guard, and some good rookies to trade Bledsoe, and with Evans and Ulis and Lin, that holds the PG position down while we develop the young guys when we may want to deal Bledsoe while value is higher and avoid big contract and we likely won't sniff playoffs anyway yet.

I wouldn't mind keeping Bledsoe but I don't think long term for this team it's the right move.

Thoughts?

Not a bad deal, I like RHJ a lot, but I think we can get more for Bledsoe. He is on a GREAT deal for two complete years and he is in his prime.

RHJ would be a great addition as a wing defender, occasional PF, but he is the only real asset on this trade.
Lin is a good player, but not better than Ulis IMO, and that late pick is not a big deal.

Yeah, just got another deal offered, but it's too much stuff in the future, even though it's two firsts, they likely wouldn't be very good ones.
UTA gets Eric Bledsoe
POR gets Hamidou Diallo + UTA 2019 second round pick + Boris Diaw(he's a non-guaranteed salary, can be waived)
PHX gets Al-Farouq Aminu + Better of UTA2018/OKC2018 first round pick + UTA 2019 first round pick(top 10 protected, turns into 2 seconds in 2022)

Though it looks like Portland already nixed it...

If I was going rebuild and looking to dump salary I would consider this, but I can't give up my starting SF/PF for a project SF since we have playoff aspirations with Nurk in the fold.

I can absorb Diaw if that helps the deal somewhow, I don't need the Utah 2nd, that could goto PHX

Utah revised proposal
UTA gets Eric Bledsoe
POR gets Hamidou Diallo + Boris Diaw(he's a non-guaranteed salary, can be waived)
PHX gets Mo Harkless + Better of UTA2018/OKC2018 first round pick + UTA 2019 first round pick(top 10 protected, turns into 2 seconds in 2022) + UTA 2019 second round pick

?

Or Crabbe? If PHX prefers Crabbe?

Portland response

I am willing to work Crabbe in if it make sense, I would need some sort of SG back.

I do not like it.

I would prefer to stay pat if we do not receive a better offer for Bledsoe.

I thought the earlier Shroder/Shump/1st proposal was very good value, just not an ideal fit.

I would also shy away from these proposals.

Btw, what is the rationale for being in favor of RHJ but not DJJ? Just curious. With DJJ, at least we can hope that he will develop an offensive game. Besides, I can't be the only one who appreciates having one of the league's highest fliers.

RHJ is a way better overall player IMO. Just that.

The way I see it, you've got two options: you either play this like real life and get the most you can for Bledsoe, or you play this like the game it is and get Rondae.

Has anyone offered anything of value for TJ, Dudley or DJJ? Asking because the number of guys who can play the 3 on this team has reached an outrageous level - TJ, Tatum, DJJ, Bender, Dudley, Booker.

Nope, just tons of offers for Bledsoe. I think the last one was two future firsts from decent teams and a decent player, maybe a PG, can't remember. I've been asked about Rubio, who maybe I could get in addition to picks. I wish he could shoot, but he would be a good guy to get our players going and get everyone involved all the time...develop faster maybe..I think he has two years left or so.

People still trying. Nothing great or close to worth pulling trigger on. I haven't paid much attention to Reggie Jackson lately, but this is one of the better ones.

UTA gets Bledsoe
DET gets Sabonis + Wright
PHX gets Reggie Jackson + better of UTA/OKC 2018 pick + OKC 2020(top 5 protected)

Two firsts and Reggie Jackson not bad if you like Reggie (previously Dellavedova was in this deal). He was really good offensively the last two years until he fell off a cliff this year so not sure what happened... http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jacksre01.html

Then earlier today I got:

Nuggets trade: Barton, DEN 2018 1st (top-10 protected), MIN 2018 1st (lotto-protected) or Mudiay
Nuggets aquire: Bledsoe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Suns trade: Bledsoe, Knight
Suns aquire: Clarkson, Barton, DEN 2018 1st
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings trade: Clarkson
Kings aquire: Knight, MIN 2018 1st or Mudiay

But the players are pretty worthless so it comes down to the 1st rounder next year so not worth it.

Reggie Jackson is a good player but trading Bledsoe for him it is a lateral move IMO. Those two picks can be good, but bringing Jackson with all of his high usage and his alpha male mentality can be a bad move for players like Ulis, Booker and Warren.

It is a fair and good offer, but a risky one.

If you are not getting a high lottery type pick for Bledsoe tell them to take a walk. Bledsoe is an almost allstar level player and are getting trash offers. Heck it would almost be better to simply let him walk in two years then take some of the trash these offers are putting out. Favors and the 30th are you kidding me, I wouldnt trade Ulis for that.

I don't think he's ever been an "almost all star" though some throw that around, likely because he puts up nice stats at times on a bad team....and makes some lists because he can get multi category stats.

I think the offers have been not great, though two firsts and Reggie Jackson isn't terrible at all. Jackson was really good a the two years before this one...especially two years ago..I think he was injured this year.

But the big thing that makes Bledsoe expendable is the impending huge contract and injury concerns.

You really would rather let him walk in two years than get two future firsts and a pretty solid replacement PG for him? We still likely get another really high pick next year and maybe one the next year since we won't likely improve that much that quickly...I mean we might but many other teams are a step ahead.

I would rather risk letting him walk then take something so far below market value for him. For Goran we got an unprotected 1st and top 7 protected 1st if you are not getting something in the range it isnt worth parting ways with him.

I understand that take if you are willing on paying him like $150 million over 5 years on his next contract. I think he would stay so I don't think it's a risk other than eating the cap space and potentially being injury prone if you don't mind the fact that he's quite a bit older than most of the key core.

Since he doesn't have any all-nba or all-star selections and he hasnt lead the Suns into the playoff yet what makes you think that he would get that kind of offer? Rich Paul is a pain in the butt to deal with but he can get his clients supermax contracts when they dont qualify for them. So no 35% contracts for Bledsoe. I think he will likely get a 20 million offer for the first year with 5% growth for 5 years.

Lets also face facts that McD is in the last year of his contract and giving away a star player for pocket lint is a sure fire way to find yourself on unemployment if you are an nba GM.

Well, I think Conley probably set a baseline and in two years his contract will be 3 years old and contracts for point guards will probably be even higher. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/memphis-grizzlies/mike-conley-2532/

He would probably want at least similar money to that. His started out at $26 million with raises so he got the 5 years, $150 million.

But I guess your assumption of 5 years starting off at $20 million with those raises would be 5 years, $110 million.

Maybe in between there somewhere.

I wouldn't trade him for lint though. I mean in the mock offseason I already turned down two first round picks and Reggie Jackson which is a pretty substantial offer.

first let me be clear on something I am not the biggest Bledsoe fan because I feel he doesnt create for his teammate enough but at least you need to get fair value for him. I think this year we were somewhere around 10 million or so below the salary cap threshold we dont have to move him and with an age of 27 he is just entering his prime. Also he is a positive person to have around the team in a leadership role so lets not act like he is one of the Morri brothers. last year we got a lottery draft pick (13rd) for Markieff Morris who isnt even one of the top 30 power forwards what do you call a player that is maybe in the top 15 PGs.
