Wayne Kerr! It's been a while! This past year I started looking back at old threads and saw several of your posts and was wondering why you disappeared all of a sudden.
Don't fall in love with anyone but Booker. Or at least wait until after tomorrow night. Not sure who will still be on the roster.

Welcome back. This thread would be a good read to at least see how our players played this season. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1554514
Bender was our top pick last year but coming over from europe was an adjustment and he was the youngest player in the draft and just after he started getting decent playing time he got injured, but he showed some flashes. Bledsoe had a great year. Warren was our most consistent performer but was out for awhile due to a medical issue. He seems to be our most underrated player, at least by our fans and posters here especially. Ulis is Booker's best friend and backs ups Bledsoe.
The main thing about the team right now is that we tried to compete too long with Nash, after the team kind of broke up in 2010, and surrounded him with a poor supporting cast and couldn't make the playoffs, then finally after trading him, had an ill fated season after trying to sign random free agents and got the 5th pick in the draft, after one of our worst year ever.
We used that pick on Alex Len, who has underachieved and is now a RFA, so we are not sure what is going to happen with him. He had a rookie guy behind him who outplayed him most of the time near the end of the season. Our only other center is an aging Tyson Chandler, who started, but was benched after the all star break to give time to the other two.
The next year (2013-14) we had a bunch of young guys who had never started, along with Goran Dragic and Channing Frye, who had returned, so we were expected to begin our rebuilding process. However, we unexpectedly overachieved, winning 48 games, but barely missed the playoffs and ended up with the 13th pick, where we were expected to have one of the top picks, where Joel Embiid, Andrew Wiggins, and Jabari Parker were supposed to be surefire all stars. We ended up with TJ Warren though, and he has played well when he's gotten playing time, as I will explain below. We kind of botched our next pick though.
The following year (2014-15), after we overachieved, we made a bold move to go after LeBron James, but obviously that didn't work. We settled for Isaiah Thomas, despite having two point guards who played a lot the previous year and having just drafted one with our botched pick in the draft. This was a terrible year as players became disgruntled, twins we had on the team beat up a civilian, and then made a bunch of panic trades at the deadline, trading a very valuable pick for another PG in Brandon Knight, while trading away two of the three we had (Isaiah Thomas and Goran Dragic) for three first rounders - two of them far in the future at the time...2018 and 2021. Then after the trade deadline we had all sorts of injures and ended the season on a bad note, but as bad as the season was we still almost finished 500 and got the 13th pick again...having the second best record of teams not in the playoffs. We ended up with Devin Booker in the draft, who has played well. During this year, since there was so much pressure to compete, TJ Warren ended up getting very little playing time, because of veteran PJ Tucker's tenacity, and playing the way a coach loves.
We made a bold move in free agency and went all out to sign LaMarcus Aldridge, even spending $48 million in a 4 year deal signing an aging Tyson Chandler he wanted to play with. But we were not able to do it, and settled for Jon Leuer and Mirza Teletovic. Meanwhile, to clear the space to sign Aldridge, we traded away one of our twin brothers on the team, which deeply disgruntled the other coming into the 2015-16 season, leaving a cloud over the team. We couldn't get out from under it, started off terribly, only for it to get worse...the twin seemed to dog it, our new $70 million PG we traded a valuable pick for would get nervous at the end of games and fumble the ball out of bounds or passing to the other team in crucial moments blowing close game after close game. The coach got fired mid season. We named a first year assistant, Earl Watson, the interim coach, after firing several other assistant coaches earlier in the season. We finally traded the disgruntled twin at the trade deadline for what became the 13th pick in the 2016 draft. Earl Watson quickly brought a new atmosphere to the team, particularly after the departed twin, which the players really seemed to like, and they played hard down the stretch, despite not being in the race any more. We won 3 of our last four games to allow Brooklyn to have a worse record than us. About TJ Warren again, he finally got playing time to start the season and was exciting to watch, but unfortunately right when he hit his stride he got injured and was out for the season.
We ended up with the 4th pick in the draft last summer, and took Dragan Bender. We traded the 13th pick, the 28th pick and rights to a european player in Bogdan Bogdanovich, for the 8th pick and drafted Marquese Chriss. This year, despite being bad, it was a pretty fun season as we embraced the rebuild, playing the young guys ample minutes and bringing back a great team atmosphere and unity. The coach, GM an Owner finally decided to embrace the rebuild, build for the long term, not having made any short sighted moves last summer or at the deadline, and many of the die hard fans are happy about what they see as a bright future.
Now, after all of that, we being to hear rumors about us wanting to signing a declining 32 year old player for the max. Possibly not just making the poor decision to sign him, but to trade assets for the rights to do so.
So everyone is freaking out a bit after this clear vision for once instead of going back and forth between rebuilding and competing or trying to do both, that we are once again trying to fast forward the process, and could possibly deplete some of our young core to do so.
Complicating matters is the fact that our GM is in the last year of his contract so he may be trying to make win now moves to save his job.
Back to TJ. He got little playing time in his first year because the coach was expected to try and get to the playoffs and giving playing time to a rookie was hard to do. His second year he finally got to play and looked great but then had a season ending injury. This year, he started off on fire, and then apparently took some medicine that really messed with his body that he was out for a stretch and it impacted his play for a bit after he came back, but once he got back to himself, he was probably our best player down the stretch....or if not best...top 2 player but most consistent.

SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

That avatar is one of the more memorable ones for sure, choir boy Kerr haha
I took tomorrow off work for the draft, can't wait. Missed the last 3 seasons (live at least) cos of the time difference in London, it was at like 2am in the morning. Starts at about midday here in NZ so going to whip up some fried chicken and buy some american beer, cos I can.

GO SUNS and welcome back Mr Kerr.

I think WeekapaugGroove, kennydorglas and Athej415 rank him highly as well...at least top 2. I'm fine with Jackson or Isaac. Many who look at the advanced stats stuff and imagine the translation I suppose, and the impact he would likely have defensively early on.

WOW! thanks man this is exactly what i was looking for. I kid you not i watched and read nothing but suns stuff for the last 3 days... and my "FAVORITE" current SUN is TJ Warren. I absolutely love this kid. I've been back and fourth on who i would like to see the suns take at 4 and after seeing Warren/chriss i don't see how we don't go FOX! Im praying to GAWD that we draft this John Wall clone.
Again thanks for the answers i was looking for

It's interesting how, when you look from a wider perspective, all the little dramas (Dragic departure, Morris incidents, Hornaceks demise, Knights failure, and so on and so on and on and on....so many in the last years) lose importance.
