Re: WELCOME JOSH JACKSON!
He's playing less minutes per game (22 vs 28 mpg)but I get a similar feel when I watch JJ compared to rookie Booker. Growing pains, but he does a lot of things well and he contributes often when he plays the minutes. So that's very encouraging.

I was expecting a slow start offensively, so for me his defense has been more disappointing. I think Triano feels the same way.

Maybe you are expecting him to run through screens and picks versus someone rotating or switching into his man. It’s not like teams are clearing out and taking him one on one. We have no team defense. I know he can play defense, especially when the refs will allow him to be physical.
I’m only disappointed about his playing time as of now.

Re: WELCOME JOSH JACKSON!
He has all the skills, athleticism and defensive IQ to be playing great defense right now but he's still learning the game and what he can and can't get away with. He's still a bit jumpy (nowhere near as bad as Chriss), a little too aggressive at times and whether you agree or not, refs are gonna make the calls they make but once he gets more experience, I have little doubt the game will slow down for him and he will be putting his length, quickness and IQ to better use.

What?
No one in the NBA can guard the best players one on one... NO ONE. Even Kawhi will still get scored on 6 out 10 times by someone like Curry or Durant.... but the 4 times they dont score is HUGE.
Jackson has shown ELITE one on one defensive skills, he stays in front, does not get faked, he reacts very well.... you cant coach that.
He can indeed get stronger, so he does not get affected by light screens and he can rebound better in traffic... but the things you cannot coach and fix with strength are there....
And team defense is CRITICAL.... if only one person tries defensively, he will still look terrible because there a lot of space around him that he can get exploited by..... you can put Kawhi, Draymond etc on the Suns and they will look average defensively with the way Suns play team defense.

Chriss is one of the worst defenders I've seen.... plenty of others dont try defensively and thats frustrating... but Chriss gets faked and players use him to draw easy fouls and And1s..... a true liability IF he doesnt fix this soon.

Yeah the guy is super twitchy and he doesn't understand challenging a shot and trying to block shots.

I never thought Amare should be teaching anyone defense, but Amare should be teaching Chris defense. When to commit to a block. When to stay down and keep your ground.
Why do we come up with better ideas than the Suns brass? **** gets old.

Re: WELCOME JOSH JACKSON!
Jackson is gonna have a great opportunity starting at SG and playing a bigger role on the team for the next two/three weeks with Booker out.
Hopefully he plays good defense and he averages around 15p/5r/4a/2s shooting at least 42% from the field in that period (7-10 games).
That would be a great step forward for him and the Suns. I think that Jackson can do it.

I think 4apg is probably unrealistic. The guy is averaging 1.7Aapg per36. He'll be playing less minutes and you expect he'd double his per36 numbers?
I'm expecting something like 10/5/2/2. If he can shoot .400FG%, I'm happy.

Re: WELCOME JOSH JACKSON!
“It’s been going pretty good,” Jackson told Basketball Insiders about his rookie season. “Nothing that I didn’t expect. The game is actually a lot slower than I thought it would be coming in from college. You can really tell it’s a thinking game, just read and react. The smarter players are the best players. You just gotta think the game a little bit more.”
After a slight retooling of his mechanics, Jackson’s form is looking a lot smoother than it did just a year ago, even if the results haven’t translated just yet. Jackson is posting a true shooting percentage of 45.1 and is below 30 percent from beyond the arc. With tweaked form, at this point, it’s about getting reps for Jackson. “I don’t really focus on it that much, I just go and shoot,” Jackson said. “It’s all about repetition and muscle memory. So, more shots, the better you’ll be at shooting.”
The word of advice from Kansas players to Jackson is mostly to just keep his head up no matter what, and focus on being a better player every day. So far in his rookie season, Jackson is off to a good start in that regard.

I like his attitude and even though his shooting sucks and it's really not at a level that's a positive for the team, it hasn't stopped him from shooting. Some might see it as a bad thing but I think it's very important for him to still have the confidence to keep shooting when he's open which he's been doing. The last thing we want is for him to lose confidence in his (crappy) shooting at this early point in his career. His shooting form really isn't that terrible, it's got a bit of a hitch but it's far from ugly like Marion or Ball. So if he can just make a few adjustment and stay confident with his shooting, I think he'll be right.

Last 4 games with Booker out and playing 26mpg (vs 21mpg with Booker), it's only his assist numbers which has gone up slightly
PPG: 7.0 vs 9.2
RPG: 3.3 vs 3.5
APG: 1.5 vs 1.0
SPG: 0.3 vs 1.2
FG%: .257 vs .392

Yeah, he is playing like ****. It's depressing and it looks worse with every game.
He needs to stop shooting threes. And he needs to stop trying to steal the ball, he loses his position defensively and he puts our entire team defense in trouble.
He played so good in Summer League and in the preseason... I have been really surprised by his terrible play since the beginning of the regular season.

He did look good in SL but let's review. Who on that SL team has played well in the NBA this year? Sadly, MJ has been outplaying lotto picks. JJ needs to get his **** together and quick.

I'm actually less disappointed in his shooting numbers and since we know those issues were there and more disappointed in his rebounding numbers. That's something he should be able to put a stamp on in game right now and he hasn't really done that. One thing I did not mention was his FPG's; he's averaging 4.3 vs 2.7. He's fouled out once and has hit 4 fouls in two of his other games.
I knew he'd struggle but with his shooting but the other numbers are a bit disappointing.

Yeah, he was really crashing the boards in summer league. I definitely expected more rebounds. Lonzo Ball almost doubles him in rebounds. Even Dennis Smith, Jr averages more, though he does play a few more minutes per game.

All of those guys are right about JJ. He sucks right now, but don’t write him off yet. Not a fan of JJ at the moment. I’m real with it.
