Suns defense is ridiculously bad.

Throughout the Celtics game, it was funny seeing stats onscreen implying Suns terrible defense.


Championship will never come without Very Good defense at the very least.

To be fair, that is a one possession lapse in a pretty well played game against the top team in the east. It did not characterize the game.

Didn't watch the game but Chriss's effort in that play sum up his effort all season.

Chriss and Bender are the type of players that NEED to be super aggressive and energetic to be "good" players long term.. look at Draymond Green and Jordan Bell... even Stanley Johnson... if Chriss and Bender had as much energy, aggression and hustle... they would be legit IMPACT players now... but nope.


If Bender had Pau Gasol level post moves he can get away with being calm and focus more on smoothness and skills... but he doesnt.. and he likes to play at the wing so he needs to be much more of a hustler. Same with Chriss..


Motor is so important if you aren't elite in size and skills....

I still think Booker, Jackson, Bender, Chriss is a good core to build our future. Booker ist obviosly the franchise player. Jackson is in his first year and will develop under a better coaching staff. Bender has developed since last year and will be a really goood unselfish role playern.
Yea Chriss has regressed, but is still 20 years old. I still think he can be really good for us. Maybe he can develop into his body and can play Center in the future. He has the athelticism to be a great defender in the post. He also needs good coaching. I wonder how they would do under popovic

Only thing that Suns has to do this season is trading Monroe (or Len or Chandler but that is less likely).
In the offseason draft the best C and PG possible and find a coach who knows the word "defense".

But I think you are looking at Chriss' expected development in a vacuum--Natural progression says year 2 should be better than year 1.

Well, Year 1 had Bledsoe for most of the year. Year 2 involved a HC change, as well. Those are two major events, IMO. Then add in the fact that we just brought in a new Center who is garnering a good amount of minutes, so a new player to get use to as well, on top of Chriss.

And some things have improved--his TRBs, FT%, Blks, Assts, TOs, and PFs. Somethings more than others. And yes, his 3PT% has dipped slightly, as well as his 2PT% (but he's also shot 7% more from outside of 3FT than he did last year, as well, which may have something to do with it.

But my biggest contention is that we knew it was going to take a few years for him and Bender to develop, and this year, overall, has been a nightmare scenario, so I am not sure how or why anyone would expect Bender or Chriss to actually develop much at all this season.

I still think it's funny that fans are still discounting Warren as a core piece to our future. What more does the guy have to do to win over fans that he deserves to be the starter? Why are some still blindly accepting the fact that Jackson will improve to be the better of the two?

Is it because he was drafted higher? Is that REALLY the basis by which 'we' are still grading which SF will be the best? Kawhi Leonard was drafted 15th, and he seems to be accepted as being a top starter at SF in San Antonio. I'm not saying Warren is as good as Leonard at all, but I am saying that he's been pretty darn good as a starter for us.

There was a lot of talk about Dennis Schroeder in the last thread. I haven't watched him much, so tell me, how does he compare to B Knight? Specifically, defense, shooting, attitude, playing off ball? Which would be the better fit? And what level of value would be required to compensate for the difference in talent?

I ask because Atlanta is clearly on the tank this season. If they flipped a healthy PG for one that's out for the season, that's only going to help their tank this year. Next year, they get a better odds for a high pick, a level of compensation (likely in the form of an additional pick), and a young PG back.

The question would then be, which 1st rounder (or 2) are we trading to make that deal happen. Knight still has negative value and the Hawks are unlikely to give Schroeder away (unless they know something bad about him that the rest of the league doesn't).

I understand what your saying. The Bucks have Kevin Garrett mentoring our young guys. Sure the Suns could do the same. Maybe Charles Barkley. Wasting a roster spot and keeping a proud, quality veteran from playing time and the chance to compete for a championship is a waste in my opinion.

The 2019/2020 year on Delly contract would be a non-starter for the Suns. They wouldn't want that $10M eating up cap space the summer of 19. You mention pairing Monroe's contact with that to get another expiring... um good luck with that; why would another team that has 27M in expirings do that? Vaughns option wasn't picked up so he's just salary filler at this point; plus Daniels has been fine as the backup SG and Reed will be back later this year. Telly for Duds is a wash on the court but a downgrade in the locker room. I see very little upside for the Suns in this deal.

It’s a pointless trade for the Suns. We are under the cap already so the savings is nil and the churning of so many players would not help the development of our young players. Next summer is all about the draft. Free agency is the summer after.

I think you could move Monroe and Delly to the Cavs for Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye (expiring) and Cedi Osman. Thompson would fit the type of athletic team Phoenix wants to build. The Cavs will make a move to shore up their center position before the playoffs and hope lebraon stays beyond this year, otherwise they are going to killed on the boards or Love is going to be in foul trouble and or beat up from having to bang with bigs too much.

I'm confused; wouldn't the Cavs be better off keeping Thompson to bang with bigs and rebound than Monroe? Plus say hypothetically the Cavs wanted to do a Monroe for Thompson swap it would be easier to do without Delly being involved. His contract is looked at around the league as a negative asset so involving him in any trade just brings down the asset base coming back.

It's really a shame that Delly has the last year on his deal and that he's simply not been good. Otherwise he would have made some sense on this suns team.

I like the Bucks so do want to see them get better I'm just saying I don't see a good match here.

Your probably right. As far as Monroe, for this season the Cavs could use scoring and Monroes size. Thompson doesn't give you that. Plus Monroe's expiring gives them some options if Lebron leaves for LA or some other place. Lebron likes Delly. I am pretty sure he is sort of running the show anyway. As for a Bucks fan we have to get out of Delly and Telly's contracts and since were taking back basically the same or slightly a little more while getting the kind of vets you need on a playoff contender, its a no brainier. What about Phoenix getting DJ Wilson and a 2nd as part of the deal?
