We could have signed him and just end the interviews. It's ridiculous to have Budenholzer waiting because we wanted to interview coachs like Fizdale, McHale, Borrego.....

This is where I lose my **** mind. If Budenholzer was ready to go why would we be interviewing anyone else? I will answer that question:

Sarver wanted to see how much cheaper the other trash coaches would be for comparison.

So it seems like I called it and was spot on on the 19th after all:

Son of Ra wrote:Knowing us it probably went down like this:
We interviewed him (for two days, no less!) and he wanted the job, we had an agreement in principle but we "had to do our due diligence" so we interviewed other coaches for no reason. Bud got upset by this and pulled out.

TBH I don't blame him. If you interviewed me (being a prime candidate) and then one steaming pile of poop after the other after me I'm gonna pull out too.
He's head and shoulders above the other candidates and throwing him in the pot with all the other failures means that we rate him in the same tier.

If this is the case, its not too late. You go back to him and say that after all considered HE is the guy we want head and shoulders above the rest, offer him a great pay package and get him to change his mind. Businesses do this all the time.

I really don't think it's a good idea to bash Sarver for Coach Bud. It literally had nothing to do with salary. It had everything to do with compensation. What we wanted was what I mentioned to your mods I wanted. We wanted a pick swap and a mid lotto pick in this draft. Something the PHX brass didn't want to give. They never even gave a strong offer to Bud and wanted it but they just couldn't.

Do you have some inside info on this? If theres truth to that then it was absolutely the right to move on. Thats a wild demand for any coach.

I have to say your talk of a pick swap at the top raises my BS meter because its both a ridiculous request but more importantly this would have went down prior to the lotto so its not like they would know where either team is picking. Makes me question your whole post.

And pretty much just wasted everyone's time because there is no chance they get a return like that from any team.

You have absolutely no evidence anywhere to suggest that is what your FO was asking for, so please do not treat your opinion as facts.

What he is doing is no different than everyone assuming Sarver and the Suns somehow blew this deal. Just saying.

Let me get this straight. The Hawks FO wanted to swap our first round pick and provide a second first round pick. Then we offer Bud a long-term contract which saves them $14 million.

Can you imagine why we declined this offer?

Everyone with this mythical Booker is going to leave if we don't win the title next year so we better trade everything and everyone and go all in........laughable.

Top pick in a loaded draft, two developing 21 years olds, cap space coming available and tons of picks in the cupboard. Kiss my ass with that nonsense. I'm not tripping off of our FO at the moment. If we are smart enough to know we are placing ourselves in position of leverage, I think our FO knows as well. I don't think they are as dumb as many would like to believe. The Suns' jokes and perceived ineptitude is so overblown.

Our biggest issue was not rebuilding earlier after Stat left, which btw, was the right call. The Turkolus and Warricks and Childress' of the world's set us back, along with too many cooks in the PG kitchen.

All I know right now until May 15, all the non playoff teams and probably the one and done teams like Portland and Washington would love to have a Devin Booker, JJ, TJ, Chris, Bender, and top odds to win the Lottery. May I mentioned that a new and improved team playing Brandon Knight might really make things interesting.

So, Bud can take flying leap. I would love to have a dynamic coach, however, he cant exist without dynamic players. Hell, Barry Switzer won a NFL title and Luke the Great Walton went like 39-3 for the Warriors.....

We will get the right guy and a great pick regardless of the lotto situation. There is light at the end of the tunnel, it may not be the type of light you want or expect, but there is light.

I think Bud moved on for the reason we all heard: there was no progress on contract negotiations after a week and two face-to-face meetings. It seems a little impatient on his part but maybe he thinks Atlanta is in a good position with its picks and pieces.

It's much easier for me to believe that Suns f**** things again than to believe Atlanta was crazy enough to demand that much for their coach.

I'm good on fizzdale. A big part of coaching is managing egos. It seems guys like fizz, horny and some of these younger coaches havent learned how to do or maybe lack that personality trait.

We were still interviewing candidates when he pulled out. Going through the process like they told everyone they would. People will believe what they want to believe but as Woj reported they didn't even get into contract stuff. Maybe his ego was bruised that they kept interviewing others and didn't just hire him and he didn't want there to be a chance he came in second so he took his name out. Who knows? It's all speculation.

Kokoskov is lauded for his player-development skills, an asset that is critical for a young Suns team.

“It's different, working with him,” former Jazz point guard George Hill told the Salt Lake Tribune. “The things that he has me do are different than I've been used to. But what he's had me do is phenomenal, little things that I didn't know would help me become a better shooter and better off the dribble, things like that. We take a lot of time doing balance and core. You always want to work with someone who's experienced, and Coach has been very good for me.”

Dudley said Kokoskov has a great offensive mind – “When it comes to sets, spacing, being aggressive, he’s really good at that” – and he lauded Kokoskov’s teaching ability, recalling the work he did in improving Shaquille O’Neal’s free-throw shooting. O’Neal shot 51.3 percent from the line in 2007-08. In 2008-2009, Kokoskov’s first season with Phoenix, he shot 59.5 percent.

“From a development standpoint he’s really big on players putting in the work, working before games,” Dudley said. “If you watch him in Utah with the players he has, he has a very thorough and extensive pregame workout where he pushes you and is on top of you.”

I will be on honest - I was on the Jay Wright train but than that stopped quickly. I hadn't really thought of Budenholzer until Woj dropped the bomb. But after Wright, when BWG mentioned Igor K and I researched his resume, who he worked for, etc - he really is the guy and I would be disappointed if he didn't get the job. The more you read, the more you hear guys like Gentry, Snyder, what he did with Slovenian team - I think he would be a great fit. Would have to hire the right staff to be sure - but think the Suns would be okay with Igor Koskokov as the head ball coach.

Most NBA insiders have said that compensation must’ve already been agreed upon when the Hawks gave the Suns permission to interview Bud. Or else they would’ve never gave the Suns permission.

So I don’t think compensation was the issue. But again it’s JMO.

Woj’s article referenced the Suns and Bud “not gaining traction on a contract” which signals $$$ and then consider Sarver’s reputation as someone who does not believe in paying up for his coaches and it’s easy to see people could think $$ was the determining factor.

But again, it’s all speculation until we have something concrete come out.

I wonder if the Suns are waiting on Terry Stotts. Don’t know how I feel about him. Honestly, with the choices we have, I’d think waiting might be a good thing.
