No joke - I like the way Canaan plays better than the last guy to wear #2.

There are now two PGs on the roster whom I prefer to the current starter. Man, what a difference a year has made. All the coaching staffs of the league had to do was remind their PGs to protect the ball from the waterbug, and there went the magic.

Just one game, but ok.

Those free throws were clutch at the end.

It's only one game but I like that he's more aggressive in putting pressure on the defense than Ulis but also more willing to move the ball without going into an ISO possession like James.

Ulis tends to pound the ball for too long and is too hesitant in attacking the defense to create opportunities where as James just loves to ISO a little much and never saw a shot he didn't like. The difference between these 3 guards is not necessarily bball IQ or physical talent (except when compared to Ulis), the difference is experience. Canaan is younger than James but has more high level experience including 3 playoff games last season for the Rockets. There's things he does out there which just shows a calmness and confidence in his game that a veteran has developed only through experience.

Ulis is a back-up PG, simple as that. He's too small and can't be hidden on defence as a starter. It's fine for certain match-ups and pestering full-court off the bench, but he can't be relied upon for 30-32mpg as a starting PG.

But as long as Booker is there and until he's extended, they won't move Ulis cos they're BFFs.

Canaan (previously) had HORRIFIC shot selection in other stops, but he was everywhere last night, really liked what I saw.

Big stones making those three freebies, I thought for sure he'd only make 2/3...

He shot 35% from three. That is enough to keep teams honest. As long as he is a pass first guy, I am good.

Scouting report coming out of Murray State was that he was an excellent shooter and scorer but lacked pg skills. Ugh. Hope this game was not an aberration .

It looks like he sort of recreated himself as a pg in the Gleague. He never was much of an assist guy before, but he managed to average 8 per game over 23 games in the Gleague. This will be an interesting story.

Starting spot is his for the taking. Ulis and James are a pretty low bar.

He just runs the offense (what there is of it he has learned so far) with such a sense of authority. His ball handling is excellent. Ball on a string applies with him.

Is there some rule about not being able to cut James?

The thing is, if he keeps performing (and I hope we keep him if that's the case) and we don't keep him, he'll get picked up immediately by another team. It wouldn't really make sense to let him go in that scenario especially since the team which needs a PG the most is...us!

Also, we have to consider that our best player (Booker) is a fiery competitor. Booker doesn't want to tank or lose any more games than necessary - he (at least for now while we aren't good) wants to go out and play on a team that's trying its best every single time they take the court. So I think keeping Canaan (if he's still playing well, or better than Ulis & James) would be one of those little moves that other players, especially Booker, would appreciate.

Can not just waive House and sign Cannan on a two-way contract ? If he plays great for the next 45 days we can sign him on a regular contract, and we have time to find a taker for Monroe.
