Nashty & Cactus: Game 57 vs Denver

Post#1 » by batsmasher » Sun Feb 11, 2018 4:17 am

Standings

How it works
Spoiler:
After each Suns game, an MVP thread will be opened for you to vote for your top 3 players. These threads can be created by anyone, as long as there isn't currently a thread for that game.

Anyone can vote for the 3-2-1 (including other fans from other forums) but you can only vote for the Suns players (or coach).

3 votes to who you think was a the best Suns player.
2 for the second best
and 1 for the 3rd best.

**EDIT: as of January something-or-other 2017, you can now distribute votes for the Nashty and Cactus however you please. You have a total of 6 votes to give out, but now you have the freedom to do what you want with those 6. The only condition which applies is no more than 3 votes can be given to one player (or coach) in either award. **

In the event of a Suns loss, you are also encouraged to vote for the Cactus of the game:

-3 votes for the player most responsible for the loss
-2 votes for the second most responsible
-1 for the third most responsible

Any votes with more than 3 players listed and not in the required format will not count. Voting will close before the start of the next Suns game.

After the thread closes, the votes will be tallied. The highest scoring total Sun gets 3 points, the next 2, and the third gets 1 point towards their season total. In the event of a tie in a count for a game, if the result of the game is a Suns win, a maximum of 4 players will be awarded points. A tie in the event of a loss will only result in a maximum of 3 players getting awarded points.

The player with the highest total at season's end wins the award!

The same applies for the Cactus of the Year, although of course the lowest tally at year's end takes it.

This is a tough one..wish there were more points, because I almost feel 4 guys almost deserve +3s. But I will go with those who provided stuff in more areas, though Payton taking control of making everyone better and Warren shooting like 80% are huge.

+2 Bender
+2 Jackson
+1 Warren
+1 Payton

-3 Chriss
-2 Daniels
-1 Dudley

I think this is a game where they should all register votes in the standings...I think typically we only have the top 3 get votes in the standings, but this was a really impressive game by 4 players, so I think maybe first place in overall votes should get 2.5, second 2, third 1, and fourth .5, just go give them all some credit for overall standings at the end. Or something like that...maybe even increase votes to 8 on games where 4 players reach a threshold to 8 distributed points, like 3, 2, 1.5, 1.5 or something like that.

Just a thought.

I left Warren out of the + category because he did what we always expect him to do (Specially when Booker is out), which is score a ton of points. He failed to do that in games past, but i feel that Payton made it easier for him to do so this game.

Payton played great, Jackson has really stepped up on both sides of the court and in all aspects of the game, and besides running away from that open 3 footer to start the game (Im sure someone got in his ear and lit the fire under his ass), he looked aggressive and like the player that we all hoped he would be. But just like i mentioned about Warren, i feel that both Jackson and Bender really stepped up and it was due in part by Payton.

We seriously got him for a steal and i think Orlando will later really regret this trade.

What is great no matter what with Payton is that hes going to help Josh and Bender gain confidence by being set up with easier buckets.

Josh and Bender are super talented offensively , a few more easy buckets and better setups will progress them very much and faster.

Payton does that because he also is very unselfish.

I've done that before in wins. Our last win v Denver I gave out 3-3-1-1. But unless the overall scores are really close I won't be doing it in a loss. I don't really have a rule but in general if the overall margin is within 5% of the max vote getter then I'm inclined to do it. e.g TJ max votes with 40 votes.... any 2 players whose score is roughly within 2 points then I'm thinking about splitting the points for.

Pretty amazing that a guy leading the team in scoring with 31 on insane 13-17 shooting doesn't get votes, but I do know you are not the biggest of Warren fans.

Curious...would you swap rosters with the Suns? Purely based on what you saw tonight.. I know it's a tough one to answer being vested in players. There was a pretty good number of fans here who wanted Isaac in the draft over Jackson and also a bunch of Gordon fans.

I like Isacc too. Gordon is good too but falls in love with the jumpers and three balls.

Based on tonight no doubt the Suns guys looked great, Bender looked fired up to, Josh was beasting in every facet, and he is already smart enough to cut and get open. Lots of that wasnt the case in Orlando with Payton

When you play with Payton, its easy to develop a connection. Josh looks like he gets that already. I bet they connect daily every game just because of that.

Not really. I'm a huge Warren fan. What he's doing is amazing but not significantly out of the ordinary for him. Like when Booker drops 30, I kind of expect that. But Jackson putting up an amazing performance across the board and Bender showing aggressiveness with a career high is huge. I was also super impressed with EPs first game, didn't expect him to fit in so well so quickly.

It's not that I wasn't impressed with Warren, it's just other players were more impressive. Had Warren also grabbed 10 boards too, I'd probably give him a +2
