Actually it's a much more flexible trade asset now because they won't have to make the trade in June from a position of weakness in negotiations because teams know they won't want to use 3 first rounders.

Hell they might use it as a trade for one of the RFA's this summer. I'm not in favor of signing him but it would be hilarious if they traded it back to Milwaukee in a Parker S&T.

There is merit in this. I would have preferred getting it now because I would have liked to move up in this draft. But it is protected 1-3 and 17-30 next year. So the downside protection is the same next year. So what are the chances next year?

1. Milwaukee mgmt is not good. They are not good drafters (they lucked into Giannis and all their fans freely admit it).
2. They are getting a new coach this summer. They might want to blow it up some this summer.
3. Giannis body type and style of play will likely end to some significant injury at some point. I am not rooting for this, I just think it is likely.
4. There is more leverage in trading it because the Suns will not HAVE to trade it this year.

Giannis
Brogdon
Parker

Its almost like they draft someone good every other year.

It at least should have been 18-30 since we also owned the 2nd if they had the 48th-60th pick. It looked like the trade was designed to give us a 1st OR if it didn't convey we'd get a 2nd, but if it landed at 17/47 we wouldn't get either.

McD didn't want #16 and more so #17. Bucks probably may have pushed for 18-30

He was playing for only a good pick this year and next

losing a late 2nd rounder for the protection process? phhht

Yeah, so they perform better next season, we dont get the pick, and then we get a top 3 protected 2020 pick.

The 17th pick in this draft isnt going to make or break the Suns, and there's no telling what Milwaukee will look like next year, Bledsoe and Parker may not even be there as they are facing a financial crunch soon, and they could make trades, suffer injuries etc... and its not like we lost the pick its just on hold

Who does everyone like at #4? Might as well plan for the inevitable.

Nets own the Bucks 2nd round pick 31-47 for those that are wondering why the Suns couldn't/didn't get #47

The other thing to keep in mind when looking at upcoming drafts is I think there's a very good chance the 1 and done rule goes away sometime in the next couple of years. And when they do that first draft will be super duper deep because it will combine the top guys from basically two classes.

Who cares about the Bucks pick. We have our own and the Heat pick. I agree with McD that we don't need it this year.

But that trade was made after the Bledsoe deal.

I don't mind losing todays flip but hopefully the Suns get the lottery ping pong balls to go right!

Of course they lose out on the 2nd round pick too -

Return to Phoenix Suns
