Re: Booker Discussion, news and highlights
He was a monster at Minnesota and the next day he plays an outstanding MVP level performance against the Nuggets...WOW.
I don’t know what to say about his ceiling anymore. To me Jokic wasn't the best player on the floor yesterday.
Embiid or Jokic can take the award this year, but Book owns them. Those steals to Jokic were a joy to watch. He is gonna destroy Embiid in a couple days. BOOK IT.

The one year the MVP wasn't won was Curry after KD showed up. That is the thing holding back Book a bit. CP3 was the one in the running for MVP and in top 5 all year until he went down, now it's Book in top 7 (on Kia MVP ladder at least). The guys that won were the clear cut best player on their team....not even close.
So while I understand the argument I can understand why people think CP3 has more impact on winning, especially given his WS in fewer games....and then we have other pretty elite players in areas like Bridges and Ayton.

Re: Booker Discussion, news and highlights
I think it changed somewhat with Westbrook. I think thinking changes after Rose won because of best record best player...over LeBron.
More people vote either for who they think the best player is or how bad the team would be without them. Which, honestly, I think makes more sense anyway.
People mention highest scorer on best team but neither of Nash's were that. He was more like the CP3 player on the team. The leader who elevated everyone's play. 4th highest scorer on 04-05 team and then the next year he actually did win when they had like the 4th best record and he was 2nd on scoring.

I don't think Booker should be MVP. But I do think this being talked about is good for his all NBA bid which he deserves 1st team.

Yeah, I figured you meant then, but I just mentioned the 3 more years because it's a ways off and we likely have a new starter by then. We can't afford to pay our next PG CP3 money given the fact we were able to pay Paul a couple of his years before Ayton and Bridges new contracts and 3 years before Cam's new one. When they are all making more, we won't have any cap space for an expensive PG, unless we trade some of those guys for one.
Ideally, we could find a floor general type PG in the draft within the next 2 years. Of course a lot easier said than done.
That had been my hope but we've gotten rid of our last two and next pick. And we will have all our starters and maybe key reserves in their prime (late 20s) so likely won't go for some more raw starting PG. I think/hope eventually we start using our picks and spending time developing them so we can have very solid promising players on rookie style contracts (much how we developed our current core).
Fred VanVleet is set to become a FA after next season and I think that’s when CP3’s guarantee runs out too. He may retire after another season or maybe show signs of slowing down and Suns look to go in a different direction.
Not sure if we’d be able to afford him but VanVleet would be a pretty great replacement for CP3. He’s high IQ player, good shooter, defender and decent playmaker. Would fit in great in Monty’s system.
I think Saric and Crowder contracts expire by then and perhaps if we can dump Shamet without taking anything back then it’d be possible.

I'd love him but I think he's probably too pricey as well. I really think all they need is a guy who can handle capably as well as shoot the 3 and defend. I mention Tyus Jones who I know isn't a sexy name but with maybe only the MLE available I think he could be a realistic solid PG who has those 14 pt, 11 ast, 2 to games shooting 38% from 3 or whatever with fairly solid D. He's like a better version of Derek Fisher. As much praise as Ja gets, Memphis doesn't really drop off with Jones in there instead of Ja. As a matter of fact, their winning % win Ja is out is much better. I think they are like 15-2 or something when Ja is out, so you could do the math on their record when he plays.
I think there is an equally good chance Payne becomes a capable starter too. We look pretty damn good with him starting when Paul was out already. Holiday should improve as well but they better not overpay him, like we did with Shamet who should have gotten less than Payne.

Re: Booker Discussion, news and highlights
I just wish Booker got the respect from the refs. I don't care so much about the awards or whether other players like him. He gets fouled so much with no calls, and often gets called for ticky tack fouls. His defense has improved so much.

Re: Booker Discussion, news and highlights
Book can sign a Supermax extension this off-season.
Taking into consideration that he presumably will be an All-Team this year, his extension will be four more years for around $210M. That would kick in in 2024/25.
I would love to see it done.

That's a tough one. None of those have really worked out well, though some are worth it, but high 50 millions or whatever in the final years is a tough pill to swallow. I was thinking Ayton in the mid 30s in final years would be a tough pill.
Of course if that what it takes keep him, but it might be worth holding off considering we still have 2 years. Ultimately with Paul likely gone before it would kick in, it would really only be Book at a super max, Ayton at max or near max and Bridges on a reasonable deal. I think Cam will be fairly reasonable too, but that one depends. He should probably make less than $20 if we can extend him, but if he really breaks out next year maybe not. Though other people who are primarily shooters have made more like Hield so who knows. But without elite (though very good) defense and no real playmaking (though I think he's good here and high IQ), I think it's up in the air.
At least Shamet will likely be gone before Booker kicks in unless we shed Ayton instead.

Hopefully Sarver sells the team this summer and then we get an owner who doesn't care about the luxury tax.
As for Booker for MVP talk. I think he should be MVP. How is it held against Booker that the Suns have a great supporting cast around him. It sucks for Jokic and Embiid, but records should matter.
