Basically traded that pick in the Dudley deal, and cash for Holmes

Holmes is a very athletic and good offensive player. Lots the dunks and short jumpers. He can score. As a Philly fan. Not why he wasn’t ever given consistent minutes. Though his defense can be meddling.

I had two questions yesterday. What big man were we going to add to shore up our roster? And how were we going to cut loose one of Dudley or Chandler to make way? Both answered today. :D

Offseason complete.

Nice move by you guys. Richaun has been buried here for years - it was understandable last season but was ridiculous that he was behind Okafor for his first two seasons after outplaying him in his limited opportunities.

He's a solid energy big that dominates inside the paint offensively, finishes strong above the rim, and plays with a lot of effort. He has pretty poor defensive instincts though and constantly sacrifices positioning for block attempts. Fans will like his energy, his emphatic dunks and blocks, and his lob finishes.

Ultimately I think he's a rotation quality backup big with some upside given that we've never really seen what he can do with a lot of playing time. His advanced stats have always been favorable - he was just never going to get much of an opportunity in Philly.

Dudley made sense. Holmes is an energy guy like Williams but with more, a lot more, athleticism.

Sounds like a Lou Amundson type player (most underrated Sun imo during the ‘10 WCFs run).

Worth it for cash considerations certainly.

I don't know enough about Amundson to comment but Richaun is athletic, energetic, and finishes within 3 feet as well as anyone in the NBA (80% last season, 75% career). He is an absolute bull once he gets the ball inside and decides he wants to get a shot up.

Doesn't sound like they harbored too much interest.

The concern with Alan was always his inability to protect the rim. Holmes gives you that.

What either will give you - and what we desperately needed on the front line - is energy. Quese and Bender, no matter where you stand on them - aren't energy bigs. Whether Ayton will come in and provide energy remains to be seen, and if we do see it, I doubt we'll see it every game. We have energy guys on the wing in Jackson and Bridges and at the PG in Knight and Shaq, but you need a guy who can show your bigs what it means to play with fire. Whatever his other shortcomings may be, playing hard is not one of them. He'll push our guys to match his energy level. Great move.

Plus we got rid of one of our two plodders in the process. A good day.

Wonder about Darrell Arthur's buyout. Apparently, Duds was not interested in a buyout. Guess we thought a 2021 second rounder was a small price to pay to add Holmes. Waiving Dudley wouldn't have given you the cap space necessary to add Holmes: you would have been limited to available free agents. Clearly, we preferred Holmes over available FA options.

Watching videos of him since i'm not familiar with him. He looks like a good serviceable backup, and he's young which is a plus. What concerns me is that Philly had great ball movement so a lot of his looks were from lobs and nice passes. I really don't think we currently have any good passers on the team...

He'll be an RFA next summer right? That could prove to be valuable because if he proves himself to be a decent backup the Suns could bring him back but wait until later after they use their cap space on a big piece. His RFA cap hold would be very small.
