What FA point guard you would target this offseason?

Post#1 » by Damkac » Thu Jan 3, 2019 11:52 pm

I put IMO most likely PGs Suns can sign this offseason. No Kyrie or Kemba because they won't come here and I think Bucks will keep Brogdon.

If you don't think that Brogdon is a realistic option this summer you have to remove Russell from the poll too IMO.

I agree. The Bucks are far more cash strapped and I think the way Bledsoe's playing, they keep him. If people think them paying Dinwiddie $11 million a year makes it too expensive to keep another PG, the Bucks will have far less cash...they have some bigger name players they will keep like Middleton and to a lesser extent Bledsoe and Lopez.

Rubio is my top realistic target. If the Suns can get him and one of the Mirotic/Randle while also bringing back Holmes(would like to bring back Oubre too, but I think he gets too high an offer in RFA) I think they will be able to make a lot of noise next year.

I can also get behind a swing for the fences trade centered around this year's first.

Tempted to vote Russell because he's the only guy on this list Devin might listen to.

Where's Kemba?

Isn't Tyus Jones going to be a RFA this summer? I would try to get him if so and he would probably be easier to snag than Dinwiddie.

Went with Lin as a wild card choice. I don't think he'll be expensive, he can still create on his own, he's a solid passer, he's super efficient, he plays smart basketball and at this point in his career, you know what you're buying.

Age and injury history is against him but given how much he costs, I wouldn't mind him on the Suns

On the real though, I'd probably take Joseph

I think Russell is too much like Booker, so their weaknesses are amplified, and any shots he takes from our best three players would be on far less efficiency which would hurt our offense as well. The assists would help, but the defense and shooting hurts us a bit much.

I don't think he will be available anyway....other than an offer sheet that very likely would be matched.

Yeah ,and that they are friends n 2 booker types is too much on any team.

I'm not in love with any of those on the list. In a vacuum I'd say Rose, but he's way too fragile physically n mentally for such a young team.

You are probably right. I was thinking that Nets may attract some big FA name leaving Russell to take while Bucks will focus on keeping their squad.

if they get out of the first round this year(first time since '01), I think they will keep all three.

if we're gonna fight over scraps, we might as well go to the draft. Not sure I want any of these scraps.

No draft pick is likely to be great immediately. Every high profile PG who has come in has struggled big time as a rookie...Trae, Fox, Ball, DSJr, Ntilikina, Fultz, Sexton, etc.

Simmons, SGA, Brogdon, Doncic, Mitchell, Kyrie, CP3,

Not every.

That said, there is not a pg in this draft that will make an immediate impact IMO.

Yeah, but Simmons sat out a year. SGA is ok, but nothing special...doesn't do too much...very low volume. Brogdon was good but a 4 year guy chosen in 2nd round...but in general I think some guys with more experience do better..like Shamet...though I figured people were talking a one and done guy.

Mitchell wasn't/isn't a PG, and is terrible this year. Kyrie and CP3 were clear cut top shelf talent. CP3 was top rated prospect in draft that somehow slipped to 4.

But both Mitchell and CP3 played two years.

It all depends what we do with our draftpick and other FA signings, and re-signing of our other players.
Quite frankly I could be OK with any of the guys up there, if the "other" stuff is right.
With that said, I'd rather go with a lower-usage - defender/passer type I think. Unless we get 2 other defensive studs (draft+FA), one for the wing, one for the inside, then I could see us going strong after Russel.

Y'all really are fans of trash players.

I think the only player that would make us better on this list is Ricky Rubio

OK. I have not been a Ricky Rubio fan over the years. But as look at our needs, he is a good fit. 28 years old is about perfect to provide leadership for this young group. He sees the floor well and is an excellent passer. He knows how to feed the post. He has a great relationship with our coach. He plays excellent defense. He is an excellent ball handler.

I have always had a problem with his shooting, but he is now pushing the mid 30% on his three, which is good enough to keep defenses honest.

He might be the best choice the get the most out of what we have.
