What's your top 3 draft prospects by position???

Post#1 » by Ghost of Kleine » Wed Mar 13, 2019 8:16 am

So who are the top 3 desired prospects at each position that you'd like for the suns to consider come draft day and why???

Point guard-

1- JA MORANT-

Excellent facilitator, an athletic specimen, and a potential superstar talent at the point guard spot. Reminds of a young Kevin Johnson, or a taller Allen Iverson.

https://youtu.be/cK_I74A0wfI .

2- NICKEAL ALEXANDER WALKER-

A very impressive 6'5 guard with great defensive potential and a smooth overall game.

https://youtu.be/4OB7PVbzJdg .

3- COBY WHITE-

AT 6'5 , He's a dynamic scorer that can play either guard position, And us a bigtime shot Maker too. Reminds of Jamal Murray, Or a 6'5 Monta Ellis.

https://youtu.be/YR96DWJ6_I8 .

Shooting guard-

1- COBY WHITE-

A lethal shooter and scorer at 6'5 who's dangerous anywhere on the court, and is a prolific scorer.

https://youtu.be/YR96DWJ6_I8 .

2- CAM REDDISH-

At 6'9, He's a versatile scorer with a smooth game and good defensive potential. He reminds of a cross between Paul George and a more athletic Joe Johnson.

https://youtu.be/UqJv-nlQzmM .

3- JARRETT CULVER -

A 6'5 scoring guard with a smooth all around game, crafty scorer with elite shooting, can score from anywhere on the court. Reminds of J.R. Smith or a better shooting tyreke Evans perhaps.

https://youtu.be/yRSG69gIBBg .

Small forward-

1- R.J. BARRETT-

A premier talent. A 6'7 more aggressive version of Grant Hill, Or Tracy McGrady. Definitely has all star level potential.

https://youtu.be/_6rKt5dM68o .

2- KZ OKPALA-

At 6'9, he's a longer turbo version of a rich man's Trevor Ariza, Or a more athletic and explosive Tayshaun Prince.

https://youtu.be/Hi0FieT1g5g .

3- CAM JOHNSON-

At 6'9, a polished scorer and knockdown three point shooter. Reminds of a bigger Justin Jackson, or a poor man's Kyle Kuzma but with better shooting. ***( my favorite option outside of the lottery for a floor spacing big man).***

https://youtu.be/9zEYp4q5iUs .

Power forward-

1- ZION WILLIAMSON-

The Freak lovechild of Charles Barkley and Larry Johnson, A definite generational talent and perfect mix of power and finesse.

https://youtu.be/7faF7ELqnnw .

2- BRANDON CLARKE-

A 6'8 polished and crafty post player who's a crafty scorer and dynamic shotblocker. A cross between Shane Battier and Kenyon Martin. High end potential defensively.

https://youtu.be/uhLgbyUFx70 .

3- JOHNTAY PORTER-

At 6'11, He's got a really smooth and polished game. He's a great passer and shooter for his size. Reminds of better passing Channing Frye, or a more polished Juwan Howard perhaps.

https://youtu.be/ZaR6P8jf9L0 .

Center-

1- BOL BOL-

At 7'2 , He's a versatile scorer with good fundamentals and great shooting mechanics. With his size, he can be a disruptive force in the paint. He reminds of a better shooting Mark Smits, or a poor man's Porzingas perhaps.

https://youtu.be/0rXXFpdMKAQ .

2- DANIEL GAFFORD-

At 6'11, He's long, athletic and mobile. A great rebounder and shotblocker. Very fluid rim runner with a developing post game. Reminds of a more explosive Marcus Camby, or a bigger, more athletic Clint Capela.

https://youtu.be/eYAzQf-6ckg .

3- JACKSON HAYES-

At 6'11, He's a long, athletic and energetic big man. He's got got footwork and timing for his shotblocking. He reminds of a rich man's JaVale Mcgee, or a younger, more springy Tyson Chandler who actually gives effort defensively.

I totally understand man. I guess this is more of a curiosity as to where most players rank positionally on their big boards currently based on potential and body of work throughout the season and heading into tournament time...lol.

Also trying to gauge value and potential fit from differing perspectives.

Might be fun to see how it plays out hopefully.....passing time I guess.

We should only ask for our gaps on who we would take at 2 if we don't get 1

There is no way we should draft if we are #3 +

I think its

Zion at #1
Morant at #2

if not either, we trade (either back) or include someone for a star

I understand what you're saying, and I agree that (for the Suns) it should be Zion then Morant then everyone else. But there's a good chance that Morant could be available at 3 or 4 depending on who leap frogs into the top of the draft - some of those teams are going to value at least one of the other 2 Dukies higher than Morant.

Maybe instead of what is essentially a top 15, a top 5 would make more sense (we'll probably end up in the top 5 come lottery day), plus maybe a couple of mid-round choices since we have the assets to move back up to 10 or so like we did last year and then some choices for our 2nd as well, along with the obligatory "why I like this guy for the Suns".

That's fair man, In that scenario I 'd probably have something like this:

1- ZION(obviously!!!)....lol.
2- Ja Morant.
3- R.J. Barrett.
4- Cam Reddish.
5- Brandon Clarke.(**depending on how they grade out at the combine, I think that Reddish and Clarke are interchangeable.

For the 2nd round:

1- Eric Paschall.
2- Cam Johnson.
3- sagabe Konate.

***IF we trade back into the middle of the first round, I like:

1- Coby White.
2- Nickeal Alexander Walker.
3- Darius Garland.
4-Johntay Porter.
5- Luka Samanic.

My board looks like this:

PG
Ja Morant
Darius Garland
Tre Jones

SG
Cam Reddish
Jarrett Culver
Coby White

SF
RJ Barrett
KZ Okpala
Nassir Little

PF
Zion Williamson
Brandon Clarke
Rui Hachimura

C
Jaxson Hayes
Daniel Gafford
Bol Bol

I was always high on BolBol, but he's an "I-want-to-see-him-prove-on-some-other-team-first" guy. :) :) And then I'm ready to give him my love.
I also like Rui a lot.

I was recently looking this over...and assuming we stay put--make no trades, etc., then we probably need to hope that Ja Morant falls to wherever we land, if not #1. #2 is a no-brainer, but if we are 3rd?? 4th? 5th??

I hope they look beyond 'young and mold-able' to who can help us, sooner rather than later...I'd almost welcome 2 Juniors or Seniors this year.

Brandon Clarke, PF - He scores well enough, but his rebounds and blocks are intriguing. He's a little on the small side for my liking at the position, but I'll take the production.

Grant Williams, PF - He'd be my '4th'...he's a little short, but he's stocky, and can shoot FTs, which usually translates well into the NBA.

So...

Zion
Ja
Clarke
Williams

in that order for me.

But we need to take advantage of out 2nd Rd pick as well...not some 'Euro stash', but another seasoned college Vet that can help. My top 4 for our 2nd Rd pick are as follows:

#1 - Ty Jerome, PG - I don;t think he makes it to the 2nd Rd, but I'm going to list someone, like Zion, who I 'hope' will be there when we select. Tall, decent Asst and 3PT numbers, and apparently, a fairly decent defender, as well.

#2 - Cameron Johnson, SF/PF - Yeah, he's old. But also, should be able to step right in and be a great 3&D guys for us. Does little bit of everything--WELL--from D to Asst numbers to Shooting.

#3 - Dedric Lawson, PF - Decent Shooter and 'Rebound Machine'

#4 - Ethan Happ, PF - Normally, I'm not a fan of 'specialists'...I prefer a prospect be good at more than one or two things, but when you start getting this low in the draft, and you are looking for immediate help, His Rebounding and Asst numbers are impressive. He won;t be a shooter for us, but his defense won't likely kcik him off the floor, either, from what his stats/number look like.

I don't watch enough college B-Ball, so I have to rely on 'other' evaluations and statistics, and these are the ones I think could help us immediately, which we desperately need. I understand the concept of BPA, and of player development, but the fact of the matter is, the Suns just have not done a great job in that department, so why not bring in guys that are closer to a finished product?
