Who should the Suns target this summer? (Poll)

Post#1 » by 8on » Tue May 21, 2019 10:28 pm

It’s an interesting summer for us. Obviously we need to start winning, but since we only have about $25M in cap room this summer if we renounce all cap holds, who would you meet with on Day 1?

I would have chosen Kemba but of that list, most realistic is PatBev

I mean...the answer is Kristaps.

But the only guys in the Suns’ price range and/or not Restricted are Beverley, Powell, and Green.

Rumor has it he didn’t want to be in Dallas. The restricted feee agents this year don’t seem to be wild about where they are.

The following 6 guys below are UN-TRADE-ABLE to me:

Booker - Star
Ayton - Future Star
Bridges - Needed defense and role player
Oubre- Brings the fire and will continue to get better
TJ- Solid player on a solid contract. Very under appreciated
Holmes - Our future montrezl harrell

Priority 1 is a PG
Priority 2 is a PF

Kemba, Brogdon, Jrue, Dlo,Pat Bev, Elf, IT are my choices in that order.

I'm willing to give up #6 + JJ + Tyler + either a top 7 protected 2020 Suns pick OR the Bucks pick (lesser of the 2) to get there.

Brogdon, then Oubre. If not... Beverley, then Oubre.

By the way Cuban already said to the local media that they'll look to sign Powell to 3-year extension. That's probably why he opted out.

Yeah, I picked Beverley even though I'd rather have Brogdon. And of course Kristaps, but that's obviously not going to happen.

I was a little surprised Powell opted out but Dallas might have come to an agreement to pay him a longer deal...it's not like he was making Tyler Johnson money.

Though maybe he likes the idea of so many teams having a lot of cap space this summer..figures he can cash in...or at least get more financial security. Doesn't do much for me though.

Edit: didn't see the post about Cuban/Powell before typing the above.

I would add Melton to our list of keepers. He’s cheap and really fits our long boy defensive identity

Thank god nobody has voted Terry Rozier yet. You'd need to have your BBall IQ checked if you did.

No desire for role players. We need someone in the 24-30 age bracket - someone about to hit his prime, or already in it. Also needs to be someone who's all-star / borderline all-star calibre.

19 win teams don't improve dramatically unless they get a serious injection of talent.

Kyrie, Kemba, D'Lo, Tobias Harris should be free agent targets (I like Brogdon too, but I view him as a high-end role player and not as an all-star calibre guy)

In trade, the best possible targets are:

Beal, LeVert, Siakam, Josh Richardson, Derrick White (maybe Aaron Gordon and Lonzo Ball as well)

Those are the kind of players we need to target . Getting them won't be easy, but that's what James Jones needs to try for.

I don't like Kyrie but off this list and working with the premise that all these guys are actual options then to me it's a no brainier Kyrie. You need top top end talent to win at the highest levels and for all his quirks and faults Kyrie is still the best player on this list.

We don't have enough money to go after many of these players. Dlo to me, seems like the only guy who may want to come here because of his friendship with Booker. While I would like Beverley, I don't see much difference between him and Tyler right now. Both players are often injured. I like Brogdan, but the more games he plays in these playoffs, the less likely we can get him. I like how Powel played, but as stated above, it looks like Dallas has a plan for him.

I am intrigued with Tomas Satoransky right now, and I am still keeping Faried in the back of my mind for one of our exemptions. But definitely resign Oubre and Holmes.
