Yeah, they should have offered 17M contract to Melton, not Rubio.

Let's keep all the scrubs because of fear someone breaks out in 5 years.

Did I say anything about signing Melton to a 17M contract? Melton was one of the leaders in steals on our team for a bit and he was a rookie on a dirt cheap contract. There was no reason to ship him off, other than being a McD guy. You really should focus on your reading comprehension skills, it might even help you make rational arguments, instead of just blindly drinking the front offices Kool aid.

You haters are just funny, complain when they ship a scrub, but also complain when the team loses by playing the same scrub. And that's what a player who's only skill is to chase players around - a scrub. There is a reason he was on a cheap contract.

You said Rubio is overpaid. What are your rational arguments ? Here's an article proving the opposite.

Melton was a rookie last year and obviously not a top pick in the draft. Are you seriously trying to use his contract as a reason for why you think he is a scrub? I should not even need to explain that.

James Jones was interviewed on the radio before free agency and the draft. He said they wanted a combo guard next to Booker, so the ball would still be in his hands some, and a defensive minded bruiser PF next to Ayton to make his life easier. We ended up with Rubio and Saric, players who really do not fit those descriptions at all. I think both were probably the best starting caliber "win now" players that they could get a each position, but I also feel what it took to accomplish that, in terms of giving away young players and picks, was WAY too much for mediocre starters that do not really fit the GM stated that he wanted in the first place. I get why the front office felt like they had to make the moves, but how they accomplished them deserves some criticism.

Paying 17 million dollars a year for a stop gap PG who has a questionable fit with Booker is risky. Rubio is like a career 38% fg and 32% 3 point shooter. Booker seems to enjoy having the ball in his hands at times, and Rubio will be useless off ball next to Booker. Hopefully it works out, but to act like every move the front office made is a home run and call anyone who questions it a hater, is really foolish. I will not buy into that, if it makes me a "hater" so be it. I have been on this board for almost 10 years now, always preaching for building through the draft. Now we have Booker, Ayton, and Bridges, so I cant complain too much. I am hopeful for those guys, so I guess we will see.

I agree that based on what they said about the combo guard next to Book and the bruiser PF being what the goal was, and that they had to go away from that. People talk about them having a plan. It seemed somewhat obvious that they kept kind of having to pivot and fly by the seat of their pants. I think they would have loved Jrue if possible and were trying to target a good combo guard or PG like that in trade, but there were no biters. And then they wanted Rozier who is an ok 3 pt shooter but the Hornets really overpaid him.

Since they couldn't get Brogdon, or at least didn't want to give up a pick or perhaps Brogdon wouldn't have wanted to go to a non playoff team, we ended up with Rubio, who is a great passer and defender but of course non shooters are hard to hide. And Saric is far from a bruiser PF (though I like him) and we passed up going for something like that or a defensive PF in the draft, so I think we just decided Baynes could challenge Ayton after Boston wanted to dump him to give up that 24th pick.

I guess a bad offseason would have been having a major injury to Booker or Ayton, giving Oubre a long huge contract, overpaying a PG like Cory Joseph or Rozier, and taking Coby White at 6 while sticking with Bender and Kaminsky at PF.

Staying at #6 to draft Brandon Clarke or even trading back but only getting another pick back
Mikal Bridges traded along with TJo for Kevin Love
20 mill terry rozier
Letting Oubre walk and keeping TJ and JJ

I think I was pretty clear why I think Melton is a scrub. Maybe you are the one who should focus on reading comprehension skills after all ?

Anyway, it's good Jones had plan A and Plan B, compared to McD who's plan was for the team to be bad every year. I was also pro-tanking initially, but that's only to get a player or two you can build around. Now it's time to put the right players around those cornerstones. And Jones did just that. Yes, maybe plan A was to get a shooter PG and bruiser at PF, it ended as a shooter at PF and good defender at PG. The balance is still there and Rubio and Saric are high IQ players that I think will make it work.

Worst possible offseason is Book demanding a trade.

I think Book wants to be here long term though. Feels like he’s bought in.

I certainly hope his eye for talent is not as bad as some of you seem to think. Just because McD was a bad GM doesn't mean that bottoming out and building a team through the draft isn't the right way to go. He just did a crappy job of it.

McD drafted more failures than successes. His track record isn't good. I don't really buy into it being his fault though- it's always been a crapshoot with me. Champ is literally N/A.

Meanwhile the Champ is counting his chickens before they hatch, surrounding Booker and Ayton with low ceiling role players, and some of you are praising those moves.

the chickens have already hatched. You have 'low ceiling (dubious) role players' and then unknowns, which hasn't been promising. the only player getting overpaid for more than 1 season is Rubio.

I can't wait till next year when TJ Warren goes beast mode

unarguably a bad move by the Suns

and one of Melton

Jevon Carter for Melton is a wash imo

or Jackson breaks out

you would be one of few, Suns fans or not, to hold that opinion. Hopefully Memphis gets Jackson's head straight- doubt it would have happened here. If you think otherwise, then your posts are unnecessarily negative.

and Suns fans start realizing the Champs roster is only good for making the Suns a mediocre team for a few years.

mediocrity would be a welcome step in the right direction for a team that has been the laughing stock of the NBA for the past four years.
