NBA Bubble Szn 2020

Post#1 » by nevetsov » Wed Jul 22, 2020 11:18 pm

So Baynes is out and Oubre is in?

Rubio, Payne/ Carter
Booker, Bridges/ Carter
Bridges, Johnson
Oubre, Johnson/ Kaminsky
Ayton, Saric/ Kaminsky

I see these as the 10 guys who might get minutes. Okobo, Diallo & Lecquo will be a nono.

Baynes wasn't even on the roster?

I thought I saw his name on there, there were 15 on the roster and I'm quite sure he was one of them. Perhaps he'll just miss the warm up games?

Yes, I checked, and he was on it. Hopefully he tests negative soon, so he can get back, since he hasn't played in a month. Him not being at full strength will hurt us.

What a weird year. 4 months of no ball, a couple weeks for us then another long break.

I hope the guys show some new things from before the pandemic.

Two fringe guys I'll have a close eye on are Jerome and Saric. Both supposedly worked on their bodies these 4 months. This might be an 8 game test to see if the suns even extend a QO to Saric. If Oubre doesn't play it will also give a glimpse of what they look like with a more traditional PF in the lineup with Ayton. Jerome playing well would be huge, if they could feel comfortable with him as even a 9th/10th man spot in the rotation it makes the off-season a little easier.

Still hasn't been cleared to play. From what I've gathered he's doing noncontact right now.

So for what it's worth, if each of the West teams currently seeded from 9-12 go 4-4 over their games, and we go 7-1, we should sneak in to the playoff with Memphis

I'll put this here because the bubble got me thinking about how the NBA could adjust schedule to do away with conference inequality and make more fun games throughout. This idea would also cut 6 games off the 82 game regular season which is about all the owners would ever allow.

So heres my half baked idea:

No conferences and 16 teams still make the playoffs.

You start the season in Phase 1 where you play home and away against the 29 other teams. That's 58 games totally balanced schedule for everyone. At that point you take a week off for the All Star game and give time to reformulate the schedule for Phase 2.

Phase 2 - the top 10 teams from Phase 1 have clinched the 1-10 spots in the playoffs and they now play each other home and away (18 games total) for seeding of the 1-10. You'd have a ton of good team vs good team games to close the season and teams would have to keep trying to win for seeding purposes.

The 11-20 teams play each home and away (18 games) for the final 6 playoff spots. Lots of competitive games with evenly matched teams.

21-30 teams are eliminated from the playoffs and also play the 18 games against each other. You either make these games meaningless towards lotto seeding so teams have no incentive to lose or maybe give some lotto ball bonuses for wins I'm open to either. These would obviously be the worst games of this idea but this way these teams aren't actually playing against other teams with playoffs on the line and they can go young and plan for next season.

Thoughts?

I thought the league was foolish to bring so many teams back purely because of logistical issues but I agree with Bobby that this could be good for the suns.

It would have been good to give the other teams the option of either having their own little 8 game schedule...all play each other or something...or just having them in the bubble and playing too. Now they may have opted out but at least it would have been their choice.

I do wonder if there will be some sort of fall league after the draft for rookies and young players...like late October.
