Suns Path to Playoffs

Post#1 » by PharmD » Sat Aug 1, 2020 4:59 am

Assuming the Suns go 8-0, they need this many losses from each team:

Memphis: 2--1 Loss so far
Portland: 3--0
Pelicans: 3--1 Loss so far
Kings: 3--1 Loss so far
Spurs: 2--0

So Portland beating Memphis was bad but San Antonio beat Sacramento was good. Obviously for each game the Suns lose you add 1 to the needed loss total for everyone.

How is Memphis only 2 when they're higher in the standings than everybody? Do we play them a bunch or something?

We likely won't catch Memphis in the standings, so the next best thing is to finish 9th (leapfrogging POR, SAC, SAN and NOP) and finish within 4 games of 8th placed Memphis.

If the team finishing 9th is within 4 games of 8th, that triggers a plug-in tournament between the 2 teams, where if 9th wins twice straight before 8th wins once, they steal the last playoff seed.

Portland is definitely the worry now. With their bigs back they may overachieve and sneak Dame into the playoffs after all.

Yep. The plan is to go 8-0 (and get help) to get to 9th place, then go 2-0 vs Memphis to get into the playoffs. Then the Suns can lose a game.

I'll enjoy the road game by game. There were even doubts about winning the Wiz game when they took the lead around the 40pts mark. Hope next season is the one without the need of a miracle.

I don’t disagree with you, as I think Portland is the best of all the fringe playoff teams (including Memphis). BUT - they have to go through the Celtics, Rockets, Nuggets, Clippers, 76ers, and Mavericks... 3 losses is not unrealistic, unless all those teams don’t care since they’re already in.

Us going 8-0 is definitely the bigger issue. I could see alot of these teams meeting the loss total mentioned above

Pelicans are getting wrecked by the Clippers thankfully.

Portland has Boston and Spurs have Memphis today. Good chance of SA and POR losing. Crossing my fingers.

Portland came back from 20. Such a good game but we need them to lose. I'm a Celtics fan for the moment lol.

Spurs just won two games without Aldridge. Watch they find a way to make the playoffs and keep their 23 year playoff streak alive.

People don't talk too much about him, but DeRozan is a tremendous player. He won the game for the Spurs in the final minutes.

Portland and Memphis both lost though, and it looks like SAC will too.

I'm still more worried about POR than San Antonio.
