Torrey Craig discussion, news and highlights

Veteran wing player who can defend multple positions.

6'6-6'7, long wingspan, 218 lbs.

He has worked really hard to be in the league after going undrafted in 2014. He played in Australia and New Zeland for a few years before signing a two-way contract in 2017 with the Nuggets.

He played three consecutive seasons for the Nuggets and this season he was out of the rotation on the Bucks.

My first impression is that he can play exactly the same role that Jae Crowder has on the team. Good insurance.

He does not have a mid-range game and is not a good ball handler, but he does not play out of his role.

I like Nader but Craig looks a bit more under control and is more experienced, so he probably gets some minutes over him in the rotation. We will see.

Jones has the magic touch when it comes to these types of role players.

We're now a full roster so wonder if that's it and we just ride out our strategic decision to go smaller in the front court.

Screams of another deal feat. a SF about to happen.

Considering we don't need another SF as it's our most populated roster position and we only have 1 player who can, when he wants to, play above the rim.

I'm not gonna act like I'm an expert on Craig as an NBA player, but I did watch him a lot in the bubble. Not really much of an offensive game, except for catch and shoot 3s and rebounds and putbacks at the rim. Hes not much of a driver, from what I've seen anyway, so the comparisons to Nader in that regard don't make any sense.

Hes shooting 36% from 3, but on a very, very limited sample size.

But his strength is his length defensively, I'm pretty sure he blocked a Booker last second shot in Denver last year in an OT game before the virus hit.

For not giving up any players, this is an excellent value move by James Jones. Adding another defensive wing with length, especially in a West loaded with wing talent, while not giving up any player is a heck of a steal.

Worst case, he doesn't play a lot of minutes, but he adds depth and another veteran voice on the bench.

Good read from Mizell on Torrey Craig back when she covered the Nuggets a few seasons ago (I think the Athletic made a mistake letting her go - she is good)

Random but I think Mizell will eventually take Lindsey Smith’s old role. She has been on the pregames a couple of times. She knows the game very well and has a great tv voice.

Lindsey Smith is bae though.

Yeah, she has some articles on Suns.com as a part time gig. I can see her doing more work such as sideline reporting with the Suns. I always loved her work with the Athletic.

Is that it now? She had gotten a job and an office working as kind of a Suns insider, always around the team, in meetings, front office, for more of an inside view of the reporting. I even listened to this pod about it. She's not doing that any more?

I thought so! Maybe I’m wrong but coulda sworn she is still part time with the Suns and also has her own work she promotes while covering the Suns.

I hope Craig has a little chip on his shoulder from not being used in Milwaukee to being let go for nothing. I hope he really comes ready to play as a result of that.

What did people think of his first action last night?
Seemed pretty active on D.

If he makes open shots he's a chance to get into the rotation, similiar to Carter but at forward.

He was nice. For 100k, not a bad guy to have on the team. Problem isn't the 100k but whether the roster spot he took was the best use of it.

Its not that hard to free up a roster spot though is it?

Moore, Gallo, Nader, Frank, Craig and Payne are all on one year deals. Moore makes the most sense to cut so it's not hard
